Louis H. Boettger
Louis H. Boettger died February 18, 2008 at the age of 75. He was born in St. Johns, March
25, 1932, the son of Henry and Anna (Fasking) Boettger. Louis worked for Wonder Bread,
Frito Lay and M.S.U. retiring from there in 1991. He married Dorothy Coddington in
Brighton on May 1, 1965 and she survives him. Louis was a member of St. Johns
Lutheran Church a member of the V.F.W. in Dewitt #671 and American Legion #153 of St.
Johns. Also surviving are brother, Edwin (Veronica)
Boettger of St. Johns, sister, Wilma Rich of Lansing and several nieces and nephews. Louis
was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Irene Brieler and Marguerite Snell, two
brothers, Donald Boettger and Robert Boettger, Sr.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at St.
Johns Lutheran Church with Pastor George Brinley officiating. Burial at St. George
Lutheran Cemetery in Brighton. Military services provided by St. Johns Honor Guard. The
family will receive friends on Tuesday, Noon 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 9:00 P.M. at
the Osgood Funeral Home, 104

Lyle H. Flegel
Lyle H. Flegel age 90 of
Elsie, Michigan died Monday, February 18, 2008 at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Duplain Church Of Christ St. Johns, MI on Thursday,
February 21, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Dan Cameron will officiate with burial at Riverside
Cemetery Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 and
Wednesday, February 20, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Lyle was born in Lafayette Township, Gratiot County, Michigan on November 25, 1917 the son
of Fred and Leora ( Hattis ) Flegel. He resided most of his life in Gratiot County and
Elsie, Michigan. Lyle married Aletha Moomey on August 31, 1940 in Lansing, Michigan. Lyle
retired from Federal Mogul Coruporation in 1981. He loved his grandchildren and great
grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards and going fishing. Lyle was a member of Duplain
Church of Christ, St. Johns, MI. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and was a member
of the Ithaca VFW Post # 7805.
He is survived by his wife Aletha Flegel of Elsie, MI, daughter Cheryl & Wayne Sutliff
of Henderson, MI, 5 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, daughter in-law Karen Schaefer
of Elsie, MI, 2 brothers; Frederick Flegel Jr. of Perrinton, MI, Mervin Flegel of Ithaca,
MI, and sister Vesta Jean Sherman of Florida. He is predeceased by his parents, son
Dennis, 2 sisters; Margie, Ila, and 1 brother Wayne.

served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Dolores Ann Spitzley
Dolores Ann Spitzley,
Westphalia, age 79, died on February 16, 2008. Our dear friend, Dolores heard the voice of
Jesus say "Come my beloved child, your winter-time is past. The rains have stopped.
Come into my heavenly home where the birds are singing and the flowers are in bloom for
you." Dolores born on February 12, 1929 in Westphalia the daughter of Anthony and
Theresa (Pohl) Spitzley. She was lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a member of
the Christian Mothers Womens Guild, and a member of the Companions of the Blessed Mother
Pauline. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ronald.
Dolores is survived by her sister, Lilly Mae (Norbert) Fox;
and by her nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her many friends who cared for
her these many years.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00
a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will
follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Tuesday and 2-4
and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, Westphalia. The Rosaries will be
prayed at 7 p.m, Tuesday and 3 p.m., Wednesday. A Scriptural Wake service will be held at
8 p.m., Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may made to a educational
trust fund that is being established in memory of Dolores. Arrangements are entrusted to
the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
Charles Edward
McCann
Charles Edward McCann,
DeWitt, age 65, died February 14, 2008. Charles was born July 21, 1942 in Trenton, MI. Mr.
McCann spent 50-plus years of service with McDonald's and eventually owned eight McDonald
franchises. He graduated from Wyandotte Roosevelt High School and was a cockswain on the
rowing team. Charles had a love for Corvettes, both old and new, his prized possession
being his '62 red convertible. He loved his family very much, keeping all of his
daughters' school memorabilia. Charles loved spending his vacation time in Florida with
his family walking the beaches. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John
and Loriene (Homeister) McCann, and his sister, Elaine McCann.
Surviving are his three daughters, Nichole (Scott) Brown of
Lansing, Gretchen (Matt) Chapin of Belleville, and Danielle McCann of DeWitt, and one
grandson, Kyler Brown. He is survived by one brother, John C. (Tassia) McCann of
Pittsburgh, PA and two sisters, Cynthia McCann of Gatlinburg, TN and Marianne Graham of
Lansing.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 19,
2:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt with the Rev.
Dwight Ezop officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday,
February 18 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Contributions may be sent to the Ronald McDonald House,

Phoebe Louise
Ackerman
Phebe Louise Ackerman
died February 15, 2008 at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor at the age of
86. She was born in Midland, Michigan on August 18, 1921, the daughter of Ralph and
Anna (McKinnan) Ackerman. She was a member of the Church of God and a retired book
keeper for the Dow Chemical Company. She is survived by her nephews, Douglas Bradley
and Gary Bradley and several nieces.
Funeral services will be held 1:00p.m. Wednesday,
February 20, 2008 at the Osgood
Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI with Pastor Paul Daniels
officiating. A private burial will be held at Midland City Cemetery. The
family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Linda (Codden)
Durfee
Linda (Codden) Durfee passed away February 12, 2008, at the age of 64, after a lengthy,
courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Mt. Pleasant on March 16, 1943, the
daughter of Avery and Verlie Codden. She was a retired secretary for the Michigan
Department of Transportation, loved their cottage up north, pontooning, garage sales and
thrift shops. Linda married Glen Doug Durfee in St. Johns on February 11,
1999.
Surviving is her husband, Glen Doug Durfee, son, Mark (Lisa) Bradley,
grandchildren, Dylan and Dalton Bradley, mother, Verlie Codden, sister, Patricia Codden,
brothers, Michael (Carol) Codden and Daniel Codden, step children, Michelle (Jim) Tracer,
Lisa (Rich) Minaya, Beckie Durfee and Scott (Heather) Durfee and 8 step grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her father, Avery Codden.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 16, 2008 at St.
Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive
friends 9 10:20 A.M. at the Osgood
