Jo Ann M. Carpenter Jo Ann M. Carpenter, 85 died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008
in Livonia, MI. Jo Ann was born Dec. 3, 1922 in Concord, CA the daughter of John and Helen
Machado. She graduated from Salinas High School in CA and received her nursing degree from
Lansing Community College. She worked for several years as an R. N. in Owosso. She married
Merle Carpenter in Lansing, MI on Feb. 22, 1944. He preceded her in death in May of 1986.
Jo Ann was a member of First Baptist Church in Ovid, and enjoyed bowling for many years.
She is survived by her son Rick and Jan Carpenter of Westerville Ohio and her daughter,
Judy (Glenn) Forrest of Livonia, MI and grandchildren Marc, Renee (Chris) and Eric Forrest
and Chad Carpenter.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Ovid with Pastor Tim Dickenson
officiating on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home in St.
Johns on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, 4-7 P.M. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church.
Janet Irene
Whitney
Janet Irene Whitney
Frankfort, IL went to be with our Lord, after a long courageous battle with cancer, on
November 11, 2008. She was born January 12, 1941 in St. Johns, Michigan, daughter of
Harold and Magdalen (Wieber) Armbrustmacher. Janet was preceded in death by her husband,
Howard James Whitney, July 21, 2002; her brother Mark Armbrustmacher; her parents, Harold
and Magdalen Armbrustmacher and her sister-in-law, Peg Greenlee.
She is survived by her brothers, Leon (Marie)
Armbrustmacher of St. Johns, Dr. Vern (Carolyn) Armbrustmacher of Arlington, VA, Clair
(Karen) Armbrustmacher and William (Mary) Armbrustmacher, both of St. Johns. Janet is also
survived by her nephew, Scott (Gina) Greenlee of Grand Rapids. She will be greatly missed
by many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 24
at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, MI. The Rev. Fr. Donald
Wieber (uncle) and Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard will concelebrate. In lieu of flowers,
sympathies may be expressed in the form of donations to: VITAS Hospice Charitable Fund or

her love of family and friends, and her courage. We shall miss her immensely.
Helen Rochon
Helen M. Rochon 79, of
Bradenton, FL (formerly of the Detroit Area), passed away Nov. 15, 2008. Born July 20,
1929 to John J. and Flora M. Heffernan in Detroit, MI. She married Robert L. Rochon in
1952. Helen was active with many church ministries and was an avid quilter, having made
over 60 quilts.
She is survived by her husband Robert, her 9 children and their 6 spouses, 18
grandchildren, 6 siblings and was proceeded in death by one sibling.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 10:30 am at Most Holy Trinity Catholic
Church in Fowler, MI. The family will receive visitors at the Goerge Chapel, Friday
evening 6 to 9 pm with a rosary at 8 pm. Burial will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Nancy Patrick
Nancy A. Patrick died November 17, 2008 at the age of
48. She was born July 16, 1960 in Owosso, the daughter of Paul Green and Anna (Oehmk)
Hinspeter. Nancy married Phillip Patrick on November 1, 1980 in Owosso and he survives
her. Nancy enjoyed life and the laughter it brought. Higgins Lake, Sugar Island, camping,
shopping with Patty and Brooke, her dog Clara, and cat Sweetie were all of the joys she
shared. And especially the times on the front porch with her family was what she valued
most.
Also surviving Nancy are two sons, Jacob and Nicolas, her mother, Anna Hinspeter,
brothers, Bill (Kay) Green, Tom (Patty) Green, sister, Linda (Dave) Johnston and many
nephews and nieces and a great niece and great nephew. She was preceded in death by her
father, Paul Green.
A Memorial service will be 1:00 pm, on Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Houghton Chapel of
Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E.
Oak St., Ovid, Michigan, with Pastor Carole Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers,

Beatrice Jelinek
Beatrice Jelinek died
November 16, 2008 at the age of 81. She was born August 21, 1927 in Mt. Morris, Michigan,
the daughter of Orville and Pearl (Fairchild) Hunt. She worked as a factory worker at
Woodards in Owosso. Beatrice married Joseph Jelinek on March 9, 1946 and he preceded her
in death on October 31, 1989.
Surviving are her children, Joette (Donald) Dennis of Ovid,
Janet Daniels of Elsie and Anthony (Carrie) Jelinek of Charlevoix, nine grandchildren,
nine great-grandchildren, brother Harry (Ellie) Hunt and many nieces and nephews. In
addition to her husband Joseph, she was preceded in death by her parents, son, Joe Eddie
Jelinek and three brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Friday, November
21, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid, with Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek
officiating, burial at Middlebury Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 Wednesday and Thursday at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak
St., Ovid, Michigan, with a rosary being prayed Thursday at 7:00 pm.
Michael J. Camburn
Michael J. Camburn, 37,
passed away peacefully and unexpectedly Saturday, November 15, 2008. Mike was born May 5,
1971 in Lansing, Michigan the son of James and Eleanor (Boluk) Camburn. He was a
graduate of St. Johns High School, Class of 1989 and received his Bachelor of Science
Degree in chemistry from Hope College in 1994. Mike was currently employed at Emergent
Bio-Solutions in Lansing. Mike married Terri L. Tigelaar on August 15, 1998 and their
wonderful daughter Zoe was born May 5, 2006.
Mike had a great love of God, his wife Terri and their
daughter Zoe. He enjoyed spending every spare moment playing with his daughter. He enjoyed
traveling, woodworking, computers, flying kites and attending kite festivals. He was an
avid cyclist and enjoyed going on biking trips with his wife and father. He enjoyed
solving various mathematical problems with his father and he was an active member at Lowe
United Methodist Church.
Surviving is his wife Terri; daughter Zoe; parents, James
and Eleanor Camburn of St. Johns; parents-in-law, Merle and Gertrude Tigelaar of
Hudsonville, MI; sisters, Sara Camburn of DeWitt and Jenny Camburn of Dimondale; sisters
and brothers-in-law, Lori (David) Besteman and Vicky (Alvin) Kollar all of Hudsonville and
Dean (Suzanne) Tigelaar of Cleveland, OH.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, November
19, 2008 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating. The family will
receive relatives and friends Monday, November 17, 6-8pm and Tuesday, November 18, 2-4 and
6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to an education fund for his daughter
Zoe.
George J. Higgins
George J. Higgins of St.
Johns, 75 died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at Sparrow Hospital. George was born on Feb. 24,
1933 the son of George and Louie (Brush) Higgins. He was a veteran of the Korean War
serving in the Air Force. On Jan. 7, 1956 he married Margaret Bond. She preceded him in
death on Dec. 11, 2006. George worked for 43 years at St. Johns Co-Op, and he enjoyed
playing cards, bowling, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by sons Steve (Cindy) and David ( Brenda)
Higgins both of St. Johns; grandchildren, Marc, Darrin and Megan; brothers, William and
Eugene (Rusty) Higgins both of St. Johns; a sister, Virginia Blackmer of St. Johns and a
special friend, Becky Thayer.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on
Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Scott Lowman officiating.
Burial will follow at South Bingham Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the
funeral home on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, 2-8 P.M. and 10 A.M. till service time on Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
