He is survived by sons Michael of East Lansing and Carl of Melvin, MI; granddaughter Kelly Goodknecht of Melvin, MI; step daughters, Paula McCormick, Sally (Rich) Taylor both of Ovid, Mary (Bob) Varco of Texas and Tamara (Fred) Heumann of Haslett. MI; step son William (Vonda) Rann of Ovid[ 20 step grandchildren and 23 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ronald. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be given to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, Sparrow Foundation, Hospice Services, PO Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909-9986. Burial will be at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI
Also surviving is one son, Scott of Mt. Pleasant, four sisters, Diane (Jerry) Sharick and Dorothy Cornwell both of St. Johns, Deb (Rick) Louchart of Lakeland, FL, Darlene (Doug) Hufnagel of Ovid; two brothers, Don Evitts of St. Johns and Dale (Judy) Evitts of Middleton; sister-in-law Alma (Ted) Stearns of Pompano Beach, FL and brother-in-law, Steve Barclay of St. Johns and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Denise "Kit" Barclay, brothers-in-law, Terry Cornwell, Dick Adams, Larry Johnson, Jack Robinson and parents-in-law Earl and Della Johnson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Ken Bremer officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 6- 8 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of donors choice.
He is survived by wife Esther, daughter Pat (Don) Stoecker of Charlotte, MI, son Clifford (Catherine) Carey of Petoskey, MI and daughter Sharon (Doug) Hildreth of Lansing, step-sons Dan (Linda) Ritter, Les (Rose) and Brian (Linda) Ritter all of St. Johns and step-daughter Sue (Jeff) Spicer of St. Johns, 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and sister Beverly Feldpausch of Eaton Rapids. He was preceded in death by brothers George, Laurence, Dale, Lyle, Raymond and Wayne and sisters Opal Fast and Mildred Frank. Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Lori Sykes officiating. Burial will follow at Deepdale Cemetery, Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, 6-8 and on Thursday, 10 A.M. until service time. Memorials may be made to the donors choice.
He is survived by his wife Emily, daughter, Tammy (Jack) Coffey of Lansing, son, David (Mary) Harsh of NormaL, IL. Grandchildren, Leandra, and Lindsay Coffey, Ian, Evan and Sarah Harsh and his father, Ralph Onstott of Ionia. Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel on Monday, January 5th at 11:00 am, Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate. Lillian was born in Ashley, Michigan on November 9, 1932, the daughter Joe and Beulah (Bovee) Skaryd, she graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1950. She worked at Michigan Refrigeration, Lansing, Michigan, and Traditions in St. Johns, Michigan. She enjoyed traveling on Charter Bus Line tours, and she enjoyed stopping at the casino and playing the penny slots. Lillian resided most of her life in Bannister, Ashley Flint and St. Johns, she was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge #225, Bannister, Michigan. She is survived by her daughter Penny and John Nieman of Bannister, Michigan, one son Robert Harnick of Bannister, Michigan grandchildren Wade Nieman, Josh and Jill Harnick, Travis and Lurie Nieman, Kristy and Josh Brooks, great grandchildren McKayla Muscott, Hunter Harnick, Dylan, Caven, Devon Brooks, Johnny and Robert Nieman, 1 sister, Shirley and Bruce Hofferbert of Bannister, 2 brothers, Doug and Toni Skaryd of Bannister, and Jim and Joyce Skaryd of Perrinton, Michigan. She was predeceased by her parents, 1 great, grandchild Jazmine, husband George Robert Harnick. Memorials may be made to ZCBJ Lodge Bannister, Michigan. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Ruth (Smith) Hengesbach; sons, John, Steven, and Brian Hengesbach of Westphalia, and Glenn (Amanda) Hengesbach of Lansing; daughter, Carolyn (Brent) Henry of Lansing; 6 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, William, Layne, Matt, Abby, and Nick; sister, Marie Schafer of Mecosta; 3 brothers, Donald (Kathy), Mark, and Anthony (Sharon) Hengesbach, all of Westphalia; brother-in-law, Charles Smith of Grand Ledge; 3 sisters-in-law, Janet Hengesbach and Patti Hengesbach of Westphalia, and Kathy Hengesbach of Eagle; several brothers and sisters-in-law. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 11:30 am Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday and Monday. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 pm Sunday and 3 pm Monday. There will be a Scriptural Wake Service held at 8 pm Monday. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
Bud is survived by Phyllis; his two sons, Douglas (Pauline) and Richard (Pamela); his grandsons, Brent (Mary), Scott (Mel), Ryan (Carmen), Matthew (Amanda); and his great-grandchildren, Taylor, Nicholas, Tyler, Derek, David, Zachary, Dylon, Brooklyn and Noah. Bud served in World War II and the Korean War. He worked in the glass business 47 years and owned St. Johns Glass for 10 years. Bud enjoyed camping. snowmobiling, golfing and going on cruises with his family and friends. He and Phyllis spent the last 18 winters in Florida participating in fun activities with their many friends at Winterset Park. Services were held at Winterset Park in Palmetto, Florida. Cremation was handled by Mansion Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Oscar L. Stockwell died on December 30, 2008 at Banner
Thunderbird Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. He was 91 years old. He had been living with his
daughter in Arizona for the past 13 months. He was born March 17, 1917 in St. Johns,
Michigan, the son of Leonard and Bessie (Grubaugh) Stockwell. He served in the US Army
during World War II. He worked as a general contractor and later as a cement finisher, and
custodian of St. Johns public schools. Oscar was a member of the First Baptist Church in
St. Johns. On December 13, 1942, Oscar married Sarah Mae Matheson of Columbus, Georgia and
they enjoyed 63 years together.
Surviving is one daughter Barbara (Don) Lewis of St. Johns; five sons, John (Teala), Gary (Judy), and Randy (Caroline) all of St. Johns, Ron (Valerie) of Ovid and Robert D. of Ithaca; 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Jacobs of South Carolina and Ann Wood of Northville, MI. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. Interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac, Michigan. Military honors will be provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. The family will receive relatives and friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 1 and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday January 2 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society 7095 W. He was born March 24, 1928 in New Castle, Penn., the son of Emerson and Beatrice Chalmers. Bill was married to Carole Steele June 6, 1953 in New Castle. They lived in Pennsylvania and Ohio until 1966 when the family moved to St. Johns where he was manager of the JC Penney Store in downtown St. Johns. He served as manager of JC Penney Stores for 27 years in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. He worked at the former Clinton Bank and Trust in St. Johns and for the State of Michigan prior to the couple's relocation to Florida in 1995.During their years in St. Johns, Bill and Carole were active members of the First Congregational Church. Their many friends have fond memories of times spent playing cards, camping and enjoying Bill's cooking and hospitality. Surviving are his wife, Carole S. Chalmers; children, Tracey Chalmers of Holt, and Scott (Renna) Chalmers of Rock Ledge, Fla.; grandchildren, Matthew Dedyne of Clearwater, Fla., Jessica (Jason) Winsor of Spring Lake, and Emily and Sarah Chalmers of Rock Ledge, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas (Mary Lou) Chalmers of New Castle, Penn. A memorial service was held Dec. 31, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church of Melbourne with Pastor John Denmark officiating.
