Thelen Laurene C. Thelen, 80, of St. Johns, passed away Feb. 4, 2000. Born in Bengal Township on Sept. 7, 1919 the daughter of Julius and Anna (Spitzley) Thelen. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. She married Carl Thelen on Jan. 4, 1940 and he survives her. Also surviving are seven daughters, Carlene (Jerome) Smith of Westphalia, Joyce (Joe) Houska and Diane (John) Kusnier of Elsie, Mary Jane (Dale) Feldpausch of St. Johns, Donna (John) Seay of Little Bear Lake, Eileen (Ron) Schneider of St. Johns, Judy (Bruce) Cameron of Owosso; one son Lynn (Janet) Thelen of St. Johns; 39 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred (Carl) Smith of Pewamo and Aileen (Julius) Thelen of Fowler; three brothers, Justin (Eldine) Thelen of Lansing, Alan (Alice) Thelen of St. Johns, and Mark (Shirley) Thelen of Columbia, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Julianna Thelen and Germaine Rehmann. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. Dominic Tirkey officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Osgood Funeral Home with Rosary prayed at 3 p.m. Sunday and a scripture service being prayed 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Clinton County or the Parkinson Association. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Home. Opal J. Podolak, 78, of Maple Rapids, passed away Feb. 1, 2000. She was born in Beulah, Mo., July 20, 1921, the daughter of Robert and Dewey (Rowlan) Brookshire. She lived in Maple Rapids since 1950. She was the owner/operator of Milo & Opal's Grocery Store and was a member of Eureka Christian Church. She married Milo Pololak at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. Aug. 7, 1942. He preceded her in death Aug. 9, 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Holland and Judy (Robert) Bellinger, both of St. Johns; one son Robert (Connie) Podolak of Perrinton; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Feb. 5 at Eureka Christian Church, burial at Payne Cemetery with Pastor Bob Ditmer officiating. The family was served by the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home.
Phyllis E. Holsworth, 69, of St. Johns, passed away Feb. 3, 2000. She was born in Pontiac Dec. 8, 1930, the daughter of Earl and Mattie (Biggs) Huston. She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Edward (Bonnie) Holsworth of St. Johns and Robert (Ruth) Holsworth of Arlington, Texas; two daughters, Carol (Kirk) Chapman of Denton, Texas, and Claudia Elson of Bremerton, WA.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris (William) Masters of Glouster, Ohio. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Claude Robert Holsworth. Funeral services are at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 7 at Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Bingham Cemetery, with her son, the Rev. Edward Holsworth officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Grove Christian School or Meals on Wheels at Clinton Memorial Hospital. Julia Karber, 90, of St. Johns, passed away Jan. 30, 2000. She was born in Ontario, Canada Sept. 1, 1909, the daughter of John and Julia (Murphy) McCarthy. She has lived in St. Johns since 1973. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Grief Ministry. She married Francis Karber in Detroit Aug. 3, 1957. He preceded her in death Oct. 5, 1980. Surviving are her family, Larry (Joyce) Karber and William (Bea) Karber, all of St. Johns; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Thomas (Barbara) McCarthy of Troy. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery, with the Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Home. Anna Marie Minarik, 86, of Elsie, passed away Jan. 31, 2000. She was born Jan. 27, 1914 in Turzovka, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Beno) Koreni. She lived in Blairsville, Penn., before moving to Elsie in 1940. She attended school in Blairsville, Penn. She was a homemaker, attended the St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister. She was a member of St. Cyril's Altar Society and Christian Mothers. On May 1, 1929, she married Andrew Minarik in Blairsville, Penn. He preceded her in death Dec. 30, 1981. Surviving are five sons, Joe (Viola) Minarik of Fowler, Paul (Barbara) Minarik, Andrew (Marge) Minarik, Steve (Judy) Minarik, all of St. Johns, Vince Minarik of Elsie; one daughter Betty (John) Kirby of Elsie; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stephanie Marton of Florida, Veronica Modrey of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, five brothers and five grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was at held Feb. 3 St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Feb. 3, burial at Riverside Cemetery, with the Rev. Fr. Max Frego officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister. The family was served by the Smith Funeral Home, Elsie Chapel. Rosetta I. Ames, 65, of Princeton, Ind., passed away Jan. 31, 2000. She was born in Lansing Dec. 26, 1934, the daughter of Roscoe and Ruth (Bandt) Rathbun and had lived in Princeton since 1978. She had worked as a CNA at Gibson General Hospital and at Holiday Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of First Church of Nazarene in Princeton, Ladies Fellowship, taught Sunday School for many years, and was a former member of the church board. She is survived by her husband of 45-1/2 years, the Rev. Laverne Ames; two daughters, Wanda (Mike) Sturgeon of Winter Springs, Fla., Dawn (Chris) Perry of Patoka, Ind.; one brother, Rolland (Mary Ellen) Rathbun of St. Johns; two sisters, Marian (George) Maron of Ovid and Rebecca (Kenneth) Thayer of St. Johns. She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Valerie Ames. Funeral services were held Feb. 5 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Watson officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Ronald Porubsky, 62, of Farwell, passed away Feb. 2, 2000 in Midland. He was born March 3, 1937, in Gratiot County, the son of Joseph and Verna (Denovich) Porubsky. He lived in the Farwell area since 1986, coming from the Elsie-Bannister area. He belonged to the Farwell Masons, the Shriners, and the Eagles Club of Clare. He owned and operated R & R Manufacturing, manufacturing and repairing campers and trailers. On Dec. 12, 1988 he married the former Rolene Spence in Las Vegas, Nev., and she survives him. Also surviving are his daughters, Karen (Richard) Tetsworth of Manistee, Rhonda (Russell) Gingrich of St. Johns, Jane Porubsky of Traverse City; stepchildren, Melodie Chvojka and Melanie (Howard) Gingrich, both of St. Johns and Michael (Yvonne) White of Columbia, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Rubie Kibbie; brothers, Joseph (Paula) and Arnold (Pam), both of Bannister; sisters, Beverly Wang of Pompeii and Charlene (Marv) Wright of St. Johns; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Sharon Porubsky. Funeral services were Feb. 4 at the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with Fr. Joseph Ryan officiating. Burial will be at the Surrey Township Cemetery in Farwell. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital. The family was served by the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, Inc. of Clare. |
