Spencer "Blackie" Blackford

Spencer "Blackie" Blackford of Elsie, passed away Feb. 8, 2000. He was the former manager of the Dancer's Department Store in Elsie. Funeral services were held Feb. 12 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie, burial at Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Jana Jirak officiating.

 

William F. "Bill" Workman

William F. "Bill" Workman, of St. Johns, beloved husband, father, and grandfather left this world Feb. 8, 2000 to join his maker after a short but very brave battle with cancer. He was united with his mother, Margie Workman, in Heaven.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1973-75 and was a graduate of Lansing Community College in law enforcement. He was a loyal employee with the Michigan State Department of Corrections for the past 11 years.

He is survived and dearly loved by his wife, Johanna Workman of St. Johns; daughters, Sarah, Laura and Anna Workman of Lansing and Holt; sons, Jacob Johnson of Lansing and Wm. Mathew Workman of St. Johns; grandsons, Dion, Nathan and Gabriel Workman; sister, Susan (Steve) Edwards of Mason; parents-in-law, Harold and Joy Sheffer of St. Johns and Robert Fitzke of East Lansing; father, Wm. T. Workman of Dimondale; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and special aunt and uncle, Peggy and Bob Vaughn of New Mexico. He will live on forever in all of our hearts until we meet again in eternity.

Memorial services were held Feb. 11 at the Osgood Funeral Home with Harold Sheffer officiating. Memorials may be made to his children's education fund.

 

Linda Coffey

Linda L. Coffey, 52, of Grand Junction, Colo., and formerly of St. Johns, passed away Feb. 6, 2000. She was born in Lansing on June 1, 1947, the daughter of David and Ada (Anderson) Coffey.

She is survived by one son, Mark Coffey of Lakewood, Colo; two daughters, Rachel Martin and Melinda (Nolt) Snyder, both of Grand Junction, Colo.; three grandsons, Mark Austin, Nathan Coffey and Alexander Snyder; three sisters, Norma (David) Peterson of Lansing, Elaine (John) Redmond and Marjorie (Robert) Baldwin both of St. Johns; two brothers Ronald (Evelyn) Coffey and Clifford (Patricia) Coffey both of Holt; eight nieces, six nephews and 30 great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Loraine Charles.

Funeral services were held Feb. 11 at Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bath with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating.

Paul W. Lanterman, 106, of St. Johns, passed away Feb. 10, 2000. He was the owner/operator of Lanterman Motor Sales and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Apopka, Fla. Funeral services were held Feb. 12 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating.

Dorothy V.S. Rose, 91, of Ovid, passed away Jan. 10, 2000. She taught kindergarten for three years in Waterford, N.Y., and was a member of the Burton Community Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Stars, and was active in the Republican Party.

Charles B. Rose, Jr., 89, of Ovid, passed away Feb. 6, 2000. He was a former Middlebury Twp. Supervisor and Assessor for 10 years, owner and operator of Todd Gravel Co., a farmer, and owned Todd Shirt Company in New York. He was a member of Burton Community Methodist Church, Ovid Masonic Lodge, and Michigan Township Association.

A memorial services for the couple was held Feb. 11 at Burton Community Methodist Church with the Rev. Lance Nest officiating. The family was served by the Houghton Chapel-Osgood Funeral Home.

James Louis Friess, 64, of Owosso, passed away Feb. 3, 2000. He owned a carpet business in Owosso. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family was served by Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna.

 

Josephine Tomasek

Josephine A. Tomasek, 85, of St. Johns, passed away Feb. 6, 2000. She was a former employee of the Clinton County News and Lansing State Journal, and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society.

Funeral mass was held Feb. 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. Dominic Tirkey officiating. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Home.

 

John Jelinek

John S. Jelinek, 83, of Bannister, passed away Feb. 8, 2000. He was retired from Clinton Machine in Ovid. Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 11 at St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister. The family was served by the Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
