Harr Arlene R. Harr, 75, of Fowler, passed away March 1, 2000. She was born June 25, 1924 the daughter of Louis and Mary (Wieber) Thelen. She lived most of her life in the Fowler area. She was a member of the Christian Women's Association. She married Roy Harr June 26, 1950, in Fowler, and he survives her. Also surviving are two sons, Alan (Mary Lou) Harr of St. Johns, Roger Harr of Lansing; two daughters, Elaine (Steve) Kramer and LuAnn (Joe) Bodarko of Fowler; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Florence (Al) Becker, Lucille (Hugo) Fox, all of St. Johns, and Leona Kloeckner of Fowler; three brothers, Clement Thelen of Pewamo, Jerome (Genevieve) Thelen of Fowler, and Claude (Bonnie) Thelen of Lansing; two sisters-in-law, Betty Thelen of St. Johns and Eileen Thelen of Fowler. She was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Thelen. The funeral Mass was held March 4 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, with the Rev. Msg. Sylvester Fedewa officiating. Burial was at Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family was served by the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes. Gerald V. Gove, 89, of St. Johns, passed away March 2, 2000. He was born in Midland County March 20, 1910, the son of Norman and Ethel (Holley) Gove. He lived most of his life in the St. Johns area. He was a farmer. He was a member of Lowe United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, and was a former school board member and past president for East Essex schools. He was a former director for Michigan Livestock Exchange and Michigan Sugar Company, and was the former president of the St. Johns Co-op. He married Marguerite Mesler in Maple Rapids March 10, 1935 and she survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Bruce Gove of Lansing, Ralph (Priscilla) Gove of St. Johns; four daughters, Norma (Richard) Crowell, Donna (John) Ballinger both of St. Johns, Shirley (Joseph) Hermes of Grand Ledge and Ruby (Richard) Parkkonen of Indian River; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Maurice (Leola) Gove; and one sister, Margaret Rademacher both of St. Johns. He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Michael Stebbins. Funeral services were March 5 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Lowe Cemetery with Pastor Jim Dibbet officiating. Memorials may be made to Lowe United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. Henry A. Lippert, 87, of St. Johns, passed away March 1, 2000. He was born in Ionia, Iowa on June 16, 1912 the son of Marzellus and Isabell (Fulman) Lippert. He served in the Army during World War II in the Philippines. He was a farmer, and raised spearmint in Stockbridge. He loved his family and good fishing buddies. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He lived most of his life in Dansville and at Higgins Lake, and the last 20 years in St. Johns. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Lippert; six children, Patty (Clare) Greene of Laingsburg, Gerry (Cathy) Lippert, Tom (Peggy) Lippert all of Lansing, Mary Ann (Randy) Morris of Omaha, Neb., Kathy (Dick) Rice of Laingsburg, Teresa (Steve) Moore of Bath; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one niece, Mary Kathryn Gruber of Pennsylvania; two nephews, Bob and Dick Lippert both of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. A Memorial Mass was March 4 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Jose Mundadan officiating. Jackson Wells Kyes, infant son of Jeffrey and Darcie (Hunt) of DeWitt, passed away Feb. 23, 2000 He was born Feb. 22, 2000. The family was served by the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home of Lansing. Dorothy A. LaBar, 83, of St. Johns, died February 28, 2000. She was born in Clinton County July 10, 1916, the daughter of Floyd and Florence (Burt) Bingham. She lived in St. Johns most of her life. Dorothy was a teacher at Greenbush and French schools, worked at Clinton Memorial Hospital, and retired from the State of Michigan in 1981. She was a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church and the Clinton County Historical Society. Dorothy married Cecil LaBar in St. Johns Aug. 13, 1937. He preceded her in death in December 1969. Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Eunice) LaBar and Michael (Donna) LaBar, both of St. Johns; two daughters, Lois Anderson of St. Johns and Sue (Richard) Hardman of Ithaca; 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Rebecca Jean Daley and Florence Kay LaBar; and three sisters. Funeral services were March 2 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Lowe Cemetery with the Rev. Raymond Sundell officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice for Clinton County. Raymond D. Stewart, 84, of Bannister, passed away Feb. 24, 2000. He was born in Bannister on Oct. 23, 1915 the son of Earl and Mable (Emory) Stewart. He lived most of his life in Bannister. He graduated from Bannister High School in 1933, and attended Central Michigan University and the University of Michigan. He was a retired farmer. He served on the Ovid-Elsie School Board, and on several boards of the Bannister United Methodist Church boards. He was a member of Farm Bureau and was a 4-H leader. He was a member of the Bannister United Methodist Church. On Dec. 14, 1947 he married Ruby Peck at the Bannister United Methodist Church, and she survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon (Doug) Barnes of Jackson and Phyllis (Jack) Solberg of Romeo; on son, James (Carol) Stewart of Bannister; five grandsons; five step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held Feb. 28 at the Bannister United Methodist Church, burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie with the Rev. Jana Jirak officiating. Memorials may be made to the Bannister United Methodist Church. The family was served by the Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Anna Theresa Kelly, 84, of Owosso, passed away Feb. 27, 2000. Mass of Christian burial was held March 2 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Owosso. The family was served by Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna. Devera Ann Stevenson, 67, of Cadillac and formerly of St. Johns, passed away Feb. 24 at her winter home in Sanibel, Fla., after an eight-year battle with cancer. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a registered dietitian with a bachelor of science degree from Notre Dame College of Ohio and a master of science degree from Michigan State University. Her greatest gift was the love she shared with her dear family and with so many friends whose lives she touched. Her faith and strength and gift for reaching out to others in their time of need will be remembered by many. She is survived by her loving husband, John, of 44 years; 10 children, Gerianne (Mark) Stohlquist of Chicago,Ill., Linda Stevenson of Elkhart, Ind., John Stevenson of Lansing, Julie (Dave) DiMatteo of Hamburg, N.Y., Nancy (Mike) Barrett of Coldwater, Kathleen (Rick) Bryan of Norton, Mass., Laura (Tom) O'Brien of Lombard, Ill., David (Michelle) Stevenson of Elmhurst, Ill., Dan (Dede) Stevenson of Cincinnati, Ohio and Jeffrey (Christy) Stevenson of Omaha, Neb. She also is the grandmother of 31 grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by her father, Garrett Moore of Sandusky, Ohio; her sister, Jeanne Aust of Toledo, Ohio; and her brother, Pete Moore of Strongsville, Ohio. Visitation is at Peterson Funeral Home, Cadillac, March 5, from 3-5 p.m. Memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., March 6, at St. Ignatius, Luther. DiMatteo, 114 Maple Ave., Hamburg, N.Y., 14075. The family was served by the Peterson Funeral Home. Forrest B. Dunlap, 85, of DeWitt, passed away Feb. 25, 2000. He was born June 6, 1914 in Weakly County, Tenn. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Motor Wheel in 1972 after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Bath American Legion Post #412. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Joyce; two daughters, Beverly (Michael) Leonard of DeWitt, and Carol (Richard) Wilt of Bath; two sons, Gregory (Kathleen) of Laingsburg, and Steven (Doris) of Bath; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Blaylock of Tennessee; nephew, Joe Travis. Funeral services were held Feb. 28 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel with Pastor Michael Hixson of Graham Community Church officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military services provided by the Edwin J. Leyanna VFW Post #671, DeWitt. |
