Nellie M. DumasNellie M. Dumas, of Zephyrhills, FL formerly of St. Johns, died April 11, 2000 at the age of 93. She was born in St. Johns on June 9, 1906, the daughter of Frank and Leona (Bates) Cressman. She married Gerald Dumas in Ypsillanti on July 2, 1927 and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1977. Surviving are one daughter, Leona Thompson of Zephyrhills, FL, one son, Almond L. Dumas of Farmington, MI, 17 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, and one sister, Alpha Drake of St. Johns. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Louis Dumas in September 1991. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 14, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Rev. Matt Olson officiating. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Michael J. Hill died April 10, 2000 at the age of 51. He was born in Clinton County on February 1, 1949, the son of Eugene and Irene (Mayhew) Hill and lived all his life in the St. Johns area. He was a retired General Motors employee, attended Salem United Methodist Church, was a member of Michigan Trail Riders Association, Sleepy Hollow Trail Riders, and U.A.W. #1753. Michael married Wanda Cartwright in St. Johns on April 8, 1967 and she survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Troy Michael (Rosie) Hill of St. Johns and Chris Allen (Mary Lou) Hill of Maple Rapids, one daughter, Marci Jo (Keith) Bunting of St. Johns, 10 grandchildren, one brother, Jack (Betty) Hill of Clinton Twp., MI, one sister, JoAnn (Virgil) Pratt of St. Johns, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 13, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral
Home, burial at Union Home Cemetery with Pastor Jim Dibbet officiating. The family
will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Verena E. Huggett died April 9, 2000 at the age of 90. She was born in Westphalia on September 19, 1909, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Fedewa) Keilen and lived most her life in St. Johns & Marlette. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Verena married Dow Huggett in Lansing on January 7, 1933 and he preceded her in death on September 23, 1994. Surviving are two sons, James (Edna) Huggett of Marsh, WI and Wallace (Sharon) Huggett of Marlette, two daughters, Mary (Carl) Barnes of Owosso and Lois (George) Beck of Palms, MI, 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, three sisters, Dorothy (John) Bower, Anita Fitzpatrick, and Mildred LaRowe, three brothers, Vincent (Madeline) Keilen, Herbert (Jeanette) Keilen, and Francis (Hilda) Keilen, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Walter, Robert, and Fr. Ernie Keilen, and one sister, Loretta (Sr. Frances). Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 13, 2000 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Jose Mundadan officiating.

St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund. Rose M. Homola, of rural Owosso, died at Ovid Healthcare Center on April 8, 2000 at the age of 76. She was born in Ovid on May 31, 1923, the daughter of Henry and Daisy (Rose) Louth. Rose had worked at Universal Electric for several years and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Her marriage to Charles Carroll on February 3, 1939 in Ovid ended with his death in 1950. She married Joseph Homola on May 19, 1952 in Owosso and he survives her. Also surviving are two sons, Charles (Patricia) Carroll III of Hale, MI and John Homola of Owosso, two daughters, Sharon (Robert) Taylor and Char (Douglas) Angell, both of Ovid, 8 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister, Donna Burton of Lansing, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two grandsons, one brother, and two sisters. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 15, 2000 at Middlebury Cemetery with
Rev. Fr. Paul Cummings officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be

Ovid. Age 69 of Elsie, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Ashley Healthcare Center, Ashley, MI. Mr. Howard retired from Oldsmobile Engine Plant in Lansing in 1981 after 31 years of service. Services were held at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI, Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Merlin Pratt will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation at the funeral home will be Monday 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Mr. Howard was born in Elsie, Michigan, March 30, 1931, the son of Harold L. & Saphrona (Hoshield) Howard. He lived most of his life in the Elsie Area. He married Claudia Conklin on June 30, 1951 at the Elsie United Methodist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Claudia Howard of Elsie, MI; two daughters, Rosella and Don Lloyd of Elsie, MI, Regene and Dave Darling of Elsie, MI; four grandchildren, Chris and Tracie Darling of Elsie, MI, Tina Marie Lloyd of Roscommon, MI, Wesley J. Darling of East Lansing, MI, Jennifer Sue Lloyd of Elsie, MI; three sisters, Gwen and Frank Hoshield of Elsie, MI, Georgia and Richard Sheldon of Owosso, MI, Karen Frasier of Alabama; three brothers, Keith and Bobbie Howard of Illinois, Lee and Carolyn Howard of Florida, Larry and Chris Howard of West Branch, MI; his step-mother, Rose Larabelle of Houghton Lake, MI and special friends, Kathy and Jack Tyler of Elsie, MI. Age 88 of Marion Springs, passed away Monday, April 3, 2000, at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid, MI. Mrs. Buchholz was a homemaker. Services will be held at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI, Thursday, April 6, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Philip Beavers will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Mrs. Buchholz was born in Gratiot County, Michigan, August 5, 1911, the daughter of Fred & Leora (Hattis) Flegel, Sr. She lived most of his life in Marion Springs, MI. She married Loring A. Buchholz on May 31, 1930 in Edgewood, MI. He died April 15, 1990. Survivors include: one son, James & Georgieana Buchholz of Corunna; two daughters, Joyce & Andy Barancik of Chesaning, Barbara Tupica of Ashley, MI; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; three brothers, Lyle and Aletha Flegel of Elsie, MI, Fred and Bernice Flegel, Jr. of Perrinton, MI, Mervin & Valorie Flegel of Ithaca, MI; one sister, Vesta Jean Sherman of Florida; many nieces and nephews. The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home, 221 West Main Street, Elsie, Michigan. June Wright Black, 70, of Bradenton, Fla., and Perrinton, passed away April 6, 2000 in Bradenton. She lived in Lapeer from 1948 until 1985, where she raised her family. She was very active in the Child Study Club and Grace Episcopal Church. In 1985, a summer residence was established in Perrinton with permanent residency being in Bradenton, Fla. She was a member of many genealogical societies and authored a book on the Payne Family History in Gratiot County. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Wright, and two brothers, Lynden and Wendell (Stub) Wright. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James; two sons, Jeff (Raia) Black of Okeechobee, Fla., Colby (Paula) Blace of Frostproof Fla.; one daughter, Candice (Paul) Walker of Okeechobee, Fla.; one grandson, James Black of Okeechobee, and six granddaughters, Evelyn and Beth Walker, Kristan and Kara Black, all of Okeechobee, Amanda and Casey Black, both of Frostpoof; and one sister, Geraldine Warner of Perrinton. Memorials services will be held in Perrinton later this summer. The family was served by the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory. |
