Margaret  E.   Howell

Margret  E.   Howell was born in Emmet County, Michigan October 30, 1910 the daughter of John A. and Amy Belle (Boardman) Lake and died April 27, 2000 at the age of 89 at the home shared with her by two granddaughters, Lisa Howell and Lin Gesterling. 

Margaret was a store clerk for Arlan’s Department Store in Lansing for several years.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Detwiler and Horace E. Howell, II and her life partner, Marvin Hunter Melton, her sister, Gladys Lake, and four brothers, Harold, Kenneth, Raymond, and W. Gordon Lake. 

Margaret is survived by her children, Florence (Detwiler) Major of Lansing, Horace “Sonny” (Ruth) Howell, III of Maple Rapids, John Howell and Keith Howell, both of East Lansing, several grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Thelma Lake of Cheboygan.  

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 29, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Pastor James Simpson officiating.  The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ingham Hospice of Lansing.

Neva E. Morse

Neva E. Morse died April 25, 2000 at the age of 94. She was born in Laingsburg, MI on September 16, 1905, the daughter of George and Blanche (Johnson) Allen. She was a retired schoolteacher at Laingsburg Schools. Neva married Carl Morse on December 7, 1926 and he preceded her in death in 1971. 

Surviving are two sons, Charles Morse and Richard Morse, both of Midland, six daughters, Esther Nielson of Bourbonnais, IL, Evelyn Sugar of Plymouth, MI, Elsie Morse of Midland, Norma Craig of Palm Harbour, FL, Mary Castro of Petersburg, IL, and Margaret Darby of Holland, MI, 16 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Allen and Grace Novak. 

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 27, 2000 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, with Pastor Dennis Boonstra officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid.
 
 

Lillie I. Anthony


Lillie I. Anthony died April 24, 2000 at the age of 89. She was born in Bronson, MI on January 4, 1911, the daughter of Silas and Alma (Lilly) Miller and lived the past 3 years in East Lansing coming from St. Johns and Laingsburg. She was a retired elementary school secretary and a member of Duplain Church of Christ. Lillie married Melvin Anthony in Bronson, MI on March 31, 1928 and he preceded her in death on November 28, 1995. 

Surviving are two daughters, Karen (Gene) Bond of Northville, MI and Betty (Carl) Lee of East Lansing, two granddaughters, Kerri (George) Gilson of Lawrenceville, GA and Kelli (Brad) Johnson of East Lansing, and five great grandchildren, Kyli and Kara Johnson, Taylor and Travis Tagsold, and Heidi Gilson. 

Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Thursday, April 27, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Duplain Cemetery with Minister Phil Beavers officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Duplain Church of Christ.
 

Marilyn J. Slee


Marilyn J. Slee died April 23, 2000 at the age of 65. Born in North Branch, Michigan December 17, 1934 she was the daughter of Lawrence V. and Rose D. (Croteau) Westen.   She was a member of Eagles and Moose Lodges and U.A.W. Local 602 having retired from Fisher Body after 36 years of service. 

Marilyn is survived by her children, Grant (Teresa) Grein of Clearwater, Florida, Yvonne Grein of Lansing, Diane (David) Rademacher of St. Johns, David (Robin) Grein of Lansing, and Sondra (Richard) Krey II of Carson City, Nevada, eight grandchildren, four sisters, Audrey Steinbrink, Marge Davis, Joy Link, and JoAnn (Pat) Izzo, four brothers, Larry (Robin) Westen, Don (Libby) Westen, Bill (Pauline) Westen, and Bob (Nancy) Westen, and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 27, 2000 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak officiating.  The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns with a Rosary prayed 8:15 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Hazel E. McMillen 

Hazel E. McMillen died April 21, 2000 at the age of 58 due to complications from lung surgery. Born in Saranac, Michigan on December 14, 1941, she was the daughter of George and Wanda (Greenwald) Hatch. Hazel loved to play with her grandchildren as much as possible. Hazel married Gary McMillen December 3, 1977 in Eureka, Michigan. 

She is survived by her husband Gary McMillen of Hubbardston, two daughters, Stacey Bergeron of Maples Rapids, Nona (Brian) Rusk of Elmira, two sons, Andre (Kim) Bergeron of St. Johns, Kip (Loree) Bergeron of South Haven, Mississippi, two stepsons, Ken (Wendy) McMillen of Addison, Tracy (Markee) McMillen of Tecumseh, seven grandchildren and two step grandchildren, one sister, Kay Wheelock (Ken) of Naples, Florida, Brother-In-Law, Jerry Waldorf, many nieces and nephews and a special friend Jimmy Fickies of Maple Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Judy Waldorf . 

Funeral services were held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Robert Stevenson II

Robert J. Stevenson, II, 60, of Pickford, passed away April 22 in Port Charlotte, Fla. He was born May 4, 1939, in Sault Ste. Marie.

He graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1957 and from Michigan State University in 1964 with a degree in food science. In 1965 he began a 33-year career in skilled trades with General Motors in Lansing and Flint before retiring in 1998 and moving to Pickford. He raised prizewinning shorthorns on the family's farm in St. Johns. He loved his grandchildren and traveling. He was an active member of the National Shorthorn Association, Michigan Shorthorn Association and the National Cattlemen Association.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth (Stafford) whom he married on July 5, 1968 in Gilford; father, Robert Stevenson I of Clear Water Beach, Fla. and Ypsilanti; one son, Robert (Janice) Stevenson III of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two daughters Janice Stevenson of Santa Clara, Calif. and Wendy (Luke) Anderson of Chelsea, Okla.; three grandchildren, Christopher Stevenson, Paige and Morgan Anderson; two sisters, Cheryl (Bill) Madden of Ypsilanti and Mary (Henry) Brandau of Whitmore Lake. He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Amy Michelle in an automobile accident in October 1995, and his mother Shirley (Thompson) Stevenson in September 1995.

Funeral services were held April 30 at the Pickford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., may 2, at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to his grandchildren. The family was served by the Reamer Funeral Home.

 

Mike "Dick" McMann

Mike R. "Dick" McMann, 64, of Lansing, passed away April 23, 2000. He was born May 14, 1935 in Lansing.

He was a loving husband to his wife, Marilyn; father and papa to his four children, Roland (Penny Jo) McMann of Lansing, Penny Sue (Mike) Presgrove of Lansing, Charmaine (Todd) Goodrich of Laingsburg and James (Michell) McMann of Grand Ledge; two step-children, Scott (Judy) Mitchell and Annette Storey both of Centerville; seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene (Betty) Baker of Lansing and Melvin (Rosie) Baker of Portland; one sister Rose Parcher of Sparta; mother-in-law, Louise Nowicki of Arizonia; special friend Fred Miller; and many other family members.

Funeral services were held April 26 at Gunnisonville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Besemer officiating. Interment was at Gunnisonville Cemetery, DeWitt Township. Contributions may be made to the Mother Theresa House, 308 N. Walnut, Lansing, 48933. The family was served by the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel.

 

Teddy Keener

Teddy L. Keener, 41, of DeWitt, passed away April 25, 2000. He retired from Fisher Body, loved hunting, fishing, spending summers at Horse Head Lake and was an avid fan of the M.S.U. Spartans.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Jesse Keener (1976).

Surviving are his wife, Darla; three daughters Stacey Keener of Dewitt, Jessica Lee and Teddi Jo Keener at home; one son, Bobby Jo "BJ" Johnson of DeWitt; one grandson, Drew Fore; his mother and step-father, Laura Lee Keener Alvera and Frank Alvera of Lansing; two brothers, Roger Curtis (Sue) Keener of Laingsburg and Thomas Ernest (Debbie) Keener of DeWitt; one sister Cynthia (David) Garnet Wade and his goddaughter, Rebekah Garnet Wade all of Elizabethtown, N.C.

Funeral services were held April 28 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co., DeWitt Chapel with the Rev. David C. Wade, Pastor of Wesley's Chapel United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown, N.C. officiating. Interment was at Bingham Cemetery, St. Johns. Contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, 48909-9986.

Robert Lawson

Robert S. Lawson, 77, of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., formerly of Naples, Fla., and Plymouth, passed away March 28, 2000 after a brief illness. He was born in Redford, Nov. 24, 1922 the son of Roy and Edna (Stevens) Lawson.

As a 1st Lt. he was a member of the 401st Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force, and served as a B-17 bomber pilot flying 35 missions in the European theater of operations during WWII. He was awarded the Air Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

He was a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Business Administration, and the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University. He was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity and the Michigan Bar Association. Following his graduation from Detroit College of Law he was appointed as a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation and served two years in Beaver, Penn., and Detroit. He worked as an attorney for Ford Motor Company in real estate property management until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet Osgood Lawson of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., and Corea, Me.; one daughter, Lisbeth (Dr. Alan) Rosenfield of Laconia, N.H.; two sons James (Anne) Lawson of Dexter and Peter (Lynn) Lawson of Northville; eight grandchildren; one sister Nina Jean (Robert) Marshall of Pensacola, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, extended family and many special friends.

A private memorial service was held. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County, 140, P.O. Box 542, Crossville, Tenn. 38557 or the charity of the donor's choice.

 

Theresa Zigmond

Theresa Zigmond, 90, of El Cajon, Calif., passed away April 9, 2000 at Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was the mother of Lester Zigmond, Joseph Zigmond and Betty Ruby, and grandmother of four.
