Ernest L. "Bill" Benton

Ernest L. "Bill" Benton of Owosso died May 11, 2000 at the age of 85.   He was born in Durand, Michigan on September 10, 1914 the son of Howard and Mamie (Cole) Benton and lived in Lansing before moving to Owosso.  He was a retired machine operator from Motor Wheel after 28 years.  Ernest married the love of his life, Nellie Cousins on September 22, 1940 and fulfilled a commitment of 57 years with her death August 17, 1998.  

He is survived by one daughter, Joanne (Paul) Ewing of Laingsburg, one granddaughter, Deborah Shephard of Laingsburg, one grandson, Michael (Nancy) Ewing of Nashville, MI, and five great grandchildren, Rebecca Shephard, Christopher, Andrew, Nicholas, and Kortney Ewing.  Ernest also has one brother, Howard Benton of California, three sisters, Geneva Carpenter of Owosso, Bernice Martin of Indiana, and Martha (Stanton) Minor of Fenton, and one sister in law, Ethyl Benton of Lansing.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Clarabelle Benton and one brother, Clarence Benton.  

Private funeral services have been held. The family is being served by the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid.

Stanley W. Fenner

Stanley W. Fenner died May 11, 2000 at the age of 80. Mr. Fenner was born March 12, 1920 in East Jordan, MI, the son of Lyle and Ruth (Wood) Fenner. He attended Cedar Lake Academy in Edmore, MI. He married Bernice Pierce in Inglewood, CA on April 19, 1939. Mr. Fenner was in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Cabot in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Pacific War from January 29, 1944 to April 8, 1945. Mr. Fenner was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8964 in Ovid, attended the St. Johns Seventh Day Adventist Church, was a tool and die maker having retired after open heart surgery in 1982. 

Mr. Fenner is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bernice, one daughter, Sharon (Larrie) Fenner-Weir, five grandsons, Steve, Lance, Scott, Lucas, and Shawn, five great grandchildren, Jana K. Weir, Dustin Weir, Stephanie Weir, Amy Weir, and Landon Weir, one brother, William (Dawn) Fenner, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and one sister. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, burial at Maple Grove Cemetery with Pastor Olan Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday and Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Troy C. Powers

Troy Christopher Powers went to be with the Lord on the morning of May 10, 2000. He was born January 30, 1978 to Gary and Karin Powers in Carson City, Michigan. He lived all of his life in St. Johns and leaves behind many good friends. Troy loved his work installing drywall with Bob Moon Drywall and spent his free time fishing, playing with his truck and just horsing around. 

Troy was a good son to Gary and Karin of St. Johns, a great friend and brother to Stephanie (Brian) Schafer of Owosso and a wonderful uncle to Ashley and Brian. He also leaves behind special friend, Deana Croftchek of St. Johns, grandmother, Pauline Powers of St. Johns, maternal aunts, Carmen (James) Fikes of St. Johns, Brigette Romhild of Malaga, Spain, paternal aunts, Rita Freeman of Haslett, Sue (Lynn) Ferguson of St. Johns and Peggy (Bruce) Weber of St. Johns, and 11 cousins. Troy will be deeply missed. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 13, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Harold C. Fedewa

Harold C. Fedewa died May 9, 2000 at the age of 82.  He was born March 21, 1918 in Clinton County, MI, the son of Charles and Helena (Fox) Fedewa.  Mr. Fedewa was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post #3733 of Fowler and had retired from General Motors in 1980 after 34 years. On April 25, 1946 he married Bertha C. Schafer in Fowler and she preceded him in death on May 22, 1997. 

Surviving are three sons Kenneth (Fiancée, Roxane Conley), Gerard Fedewa, and Dave Fedewa, all of Fowler, two daughters,  Mary Ann (Bill) Young of St. Johns and Helena (Gary) Platte of Lyons, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Annette Fedewa and five brothers, Adam, Roman, John, Edward, and Urban Fedewa. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 12, 2000 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Fowler with a Rosary prayed at 3 and 8 P.M. Wednesday and 3 P.M. Thursday, and a Vigil service 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. 

Mildred L. Sleight

Mildred L. Sleight died May 8, 2000 at the age of 78. She was born in St. Johns on February 4, 1922, the daughter of Harvey E. and Maude (Fricky) Ballinger and lived in the St. Johns area most of her life. She graduated from St. Johns High School and Central Michigan University.  She retired as a Clinton County school teacher in 1982 and was a member of Price United Methodist Church. Mildred married Wendall Sleight in St. Johns, MI on July 12, 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1957. 

Surviving are one daughter, Sheila (Terry) Ordway of St. Johns, one son, Rick   Sleight of DeWitt, and four grandchildren, Michelle and Kevin Bailey, Mark Ordway, and Kristen Sleight. 

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Rev. Kay Pratt and Elder Earl Barks officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.

Joseph S. Seavey

Joseph S. Seavey died Saturday, May 6, 2000 at the age of 77. Born June 13,1922 in Herkimer, NY, the son of Charles and Emma (Autenrith) Seavey and has lived in the St. Johns area since 1972 coming from East Detroit. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Michigan Parks and Recreation Association, National Parks and Recreation Association, was a veteran of WWII and was the retired chief of Recreation Services for the State of Michigan. Joseph married Margaret Sullivan in Denver, CO in 1945 and she survives him. 

Also surviving are five sons, Thomas (Suzanne) of Novato, CA, Joe (Eleanor) of Zeeland, MI, Stan (Jeanette) of Grand Blanc, MI, Leo (Kathie) of Cave Creek, AZ, and John Seavey of Taylor, MI, two daughters, Jean Simon of St. Johns and Erin (Jeff) Penney of Fairfield, CT, twenty-three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two sisters, Jean Humphrey of Herkimer, NY and Mildred Carney of Middleville, NY. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Monday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Frances S. Maciejeski

Frances S. Maciejeski, of Owosso, died May 6, 2000 at the age of 85. She was born in Bayside, NY on March 16, 1915, the daughter of Walter and Anna Kaminski and lived most of her life in the Owosso area. She was a retired press operator for Motor Products. Frances married George Maciejeski in Angola, IN and he preceded her in death in 1959. 

Surviving are four daughters, Connie Cole of Owosso, Helen Wirostek of Oakley, Rosalie Bohac of Owosso, and Joanne Wood of New Lothrup, one son, Richard Maciejeski of Chesaning, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and four sisters. 

A private family memorial mass and rosary will be held. Arrangements by the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lions Club leader dog program of Rochester, MI.
