Hull Richard (Dick) Hull, age 66 of Muir, passed away at his residence on May 24, 2000. He was born the son of Lewis and Mildred Hull on March 17, 1934 in Lansing. Dick graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, Ferris State College, and graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in mortuary science. He was the owner of the Hull Memorial Chapel in Muir and Hull Ambulance Service. Funeral services were held on Saturday,k May 27 at 2 p.m. at the Lyons Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Akright and Rev. Larry Vincent officiating. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery in Muir. Gertrude Bennett, 93, of Elsie and formerly of St. Johns, passed away May 27, 2000 as a result of an auto accident. She was born in Bannister Feb. 8, 1907, the daughter of Clyde and LNora (Clymer) Heinze. She lived most of her life in the St. Johns and Elsie area. She taught school for 35 years. She taught two years at the Crippin School, four years at Otter Lake, 10 years in Elsie and 19 years in St. Johns. The last six years she was a principal at East Ward Elementary School, retiring in June 1963. She belonged to the MEA, MARSP, AARP and was a volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital, and Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum. She was a member of the Clinton County Merry Maker Band, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in St. Johns. She married Leland Bennett July 3, 1946. He preceded her in death April 4, 1983. She is survived by three step-children, Raymond and Marie Bennett, Alton and Mae Bennett and Norma and Bernard Weeks; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; niece, Irene Heinze; 34 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, Ernest Heinze; niece, Kathleen (Heinze) Sanford; and nephew, Eugene Heinze. Funeral services were held May 31 at the Elsie United Methodist Church, burial at Ford Cemetery in Gratiot County with the Rev. Steve Weinberger, the Rev. Merlin Pratt, and the Rev. Alton Bennett officiating. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. The family was served by the Smith Funeral Home.
Janet V. WestJanet V. West, of Gaylord, died May 31, 2000 at the age of 79. She was born on September 23, 1920, the daughter of Edward and Clara (Johnson) West. She retired from the Kodak Company in Detroit. She is survived by one niece, Nancy Graves of St. Johns. There will be no visitation or services. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home. Tad H. LeeTad H. Lee died May 31, 2000 at the age of 43. He was born in Vernal, Utah on December 31, 1956, the son of Clyde and Wilma (Ainge) Lee and lived in St. Johns since 1991. He graduated from Utah Schools and worked as an Industrial Electrician for several years. Tad married Carolyn Wilkie in St. Johns on December 28, 1993 and she survives him. Also surviving are his mother, Wilma Lee of Utah, two brothers, Ned (Gloria) Lee and T.C. (Laurie) Lee, both of Utah, and two sisters, Loretta (Ralph) Huber of Utah and Claudette (Norm) Schchard of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 3, 2000 at 403 S. Lansing St., St. Johns. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home. Betty M. (Clark) BlackledgeBetty M. (Clark) Blackledge died May 27, 2000 at the age of 79. She was born in Lansing on March 14,1921, the daughter of Herbert and Beatrice (McAfee) Clark. She was a graduate of Dimondale High School and Lansing Comtometer School, and worked for Michigan State College and the Secretary of State of Michigan. She was a former Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, an active member of PTA, member of the Amica Club, and was a founder of the Little League in Gratiot and Clinton Counties. Betty married Franklin Blackledge on April 18,1942 and he preceded her in death July 25,1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother Robert Clark. She is survived by daughter Jo A. Greer of St. Johns, son Frank (Carolyn) Blackledge of San Diego, CA, grandchildren Toni Greer of St. Johns, Scott Greer of Ashley, Tonya (Milan) Starlin of Lake City, great grandchildren Zachary Greer, Amanda and Steven Starlin, sister-in-law Mildred Andrick of Haslett, and brothers-in-law Lyle Blackledge of Okemos and Robert (Per) Blackledge of Laingsburg. Betty was a donor to the Department of Anatomy, Michigan State University and there will be no funeral service. Memorials may be made to the charity of donors choice. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home. Georgia L. BradleyGeorgia L. Bradley died May 26, 2000 at the age of 95. Born February 22, 1905 in Elm Hall, Michigan, she was the daughter of Roy and Flora (Smith) Coonrod and lived in the St. Johns area most of her life. She was a life member of O.E.S. #79, a member of Farm Bureau, and a homemaker. Her marriage of 62 years to J. Raymond Bradley on October 29, 1923 ended with his death June 28, 1986. Georgia is survived by her two daughters, Kathryn (Ken) McCue of Lansing and Elizabeth Buell of Mecosta, one son, Marion (Dorothy) Bradley of Roscommon, 15 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Georgia was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ken Buell, and a grandson, Dennis Buell. Funeral Services will be 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev.Steve Weinberger officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6:308:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Lee Pertler, 64, of St. Johns, passed away May 28, 2000. He was born May 28, 1936 in Flint. He graduated from Flint Central Feb. 4, 1956. He retired from Michigan Bell/Ameritech after 36 years of service. He was active for many years as a Little League and Pony League baseball coach. He served as the president of the Redwing Booster Club and was instrumental in the fundraising and building of the St. Johns Redwing Football Press Box. He loved supporting his children and grandchildren at school activities and sporting events. He participated in golf and bowling leagues. He also enjoyed playing cards at the Brad's/Dershey Cafe. On Feb. 4, 1956 he married his lifelong companion and supporter, Shirley Wurn of St. Johns. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Shirley Pertler; sons, Brian (Cheryl Resseguie) Pertler, Ryan (Mary) Pertler, Randy (Carla) Pertler; daughter, Kelly (David) Pervine; grandchildren, Jesse Resseguie, Corey Resseguie, Zachary Resseguie, Breanne Pertler, Sarah Pertler, Angela Pertler, Jessica Pertler, Tayla Pertler, Joshua Pertler, Randen Pertler, Amanda Pervine, Scott Pervine; brothers Duane (Barbara) Pertler, Donald (Violet), Kenneth (Joan) Pertler; sister Shirley (Fritz) Kenas; sister-in-laws, Charlene Pat Wurn, Maxine (Ernie) Lance; brother-in-law, Rex Bucky Wurn; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special card partners from Brad's/Dershey's Cafe. He was preceded in death by his mother Lucille Pertler; father Aloysius Pertler; mother-in-law Evelyn Wallje; nephew Daniel Kenas. Florence Loraine Clark, 90, of Elsie, passed away May 28, 2000. She was born May 31, 1909 in South Haven the daughter of William and Blanche (Goodwin) Unrath. She lived most of her life in Elsie. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Eureka Christian Church. She married Ivan Clark April 16, 1927 in Flint. He preceded her in death March 19, 1979. She is survived by three sons, Earl (Donna) Clark, Don (Marilyn) Clark all of Elsie, Beryl (Dixie) Clark of Owosso; daughter-in-law June Clark of San Jose, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Merrill Clark; two grandsons, Randy Clark and Jeffrey Clark; two brothers. Funeral services were held May 31 at Smith Funeral Home, Elsie Chapel, burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie with Pastor Robert Ditmer officiating. Memorials may be made to Eureka Christian Church.
Rex Lewis Loynes, 78, of Elsie, passed away May 30, 2000. He was born in Fairfield Township May 7, 1922 the son of Colon and Clara (Shuster) Loynes. He lived most of his life in the Elsie area. He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1940. He retired from Centrifuse (Motor Wheel) in Lansing in 1979 after 30 years of service. He also was the former owner of Rex's Bar in Bannister. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was in Tokyo when the Japanese surrendered. He was the Past Commander of Bannister VFW Post #6403, member of American Legion Post #502 Elsie, Alma VFW Post #1454, and a charter member of Moose Lodge 2381 at Drummond Island. He married Margie Reeder July 4, 1943. She preceded him in death in 1976. Survivors include one daughter, Jill Loynes of Elsie; two sons, James and Grace Loynes of Isle of Palms, S.C., Jack Loynes of Haslett; five grandchildren, Dariann, James Thomas, Katherine, Griffin and Hilary; two great-grandchildren Anna, Hadley; two sisters, Sue Frazier, Jean (John) Loznak all of Owosso; one brother, Max (Wilma) Loynes of Chapin; special friend, Jeanette Bensinger of Bannister. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill. Funeral services were held June 3 at Smith Funeral Home, Elsie Chapel, burial at Fairfield Township Cemetery with Pastor Murl Eastman officiating. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association. The family was served by the Smith Funeral Home, Elsie Chapel.
Leslie Long, 92, of Elsie, passed away May 27, 2000. He was retired from farming and a substitute mail carrier for the Corunna Post Office. He was also a field man for Stokley Canning Factory in Owosso. Funeral services were held May 30 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
