Alma T. Thelen | Hilda Peck |
Lloyd Garner Salisbury, 73, of St. Johns, passed away Aug. 24, 2000 at Sparrow Hospital. He was born in Fowler on Nov. 2, 1926, the son of Willis and Effie (Falor) Salisbury. He graduated from Fowler High School with the class of 1943 and resided most of his life in the Fowler and St. Johns areas. He was a farmer and worked for Sealed Power in St. Johns. He married Louise Ann (Britten)in Springport June 2, 1951. She preceded him in death in November 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Janette (Dean) Kipp of Carson City, and Mary Salisbury and special friend Wayne Bradley of Kalamazoo; three sons, Tim (Betsy) Salisbury of Elsie, Tom (Judy) Salisbury of St. Johns, Ted (Kim) Salisbury of Maple Raids; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bonna (Richard) Davidson of Dryden. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and three brothers. Visitation is Sunday 2-9 p.m., with family present 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services are Monday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Burial will be at Sowle Cemetery, Clinton County. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Raymond R. Sundell. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Barbara Jo Johnson, 52, of Oracle, Ariz., formerly of Elsie, passed away Aug. 22, 2000. She was a medical lab technician and also a grade school tutor. She and her husband formerly owned and operated Johnston Hunting & Fishing Camp in Pickford. Funeral service were Aug. 26 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Mildred E. JoraeMildred E. Jorae died August 23, 2000 at the age of 95. She was born in Clinton County on October 24, 1905, the daughter of Leslie and Della (Yerrick) Hettinger and lived most of her life in Ovid. Mildred married Ronald M. Jorae in Lansing on October 29, 1927 and he preceded her in death on June 29, 1991. Surviving are one son, Dale (Mary) Jorae of St. Johns, two daughters, Margaret (Vaughn) Hawley of Owosso and Vicky (Kenneth) Doten of Ovid, two sons-in-law, Leo Cox and Jim Mead, both of Ovid, 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Barbara Jorae of Buckley. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra Mead and Mary Lou Cox, infant daughter, Marjorie Ann, son, Keith Jorae, and six brothers. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 26, 2000 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid, burial at Maple Grove Cemetery with Rev. Rob McPherson officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Ovid Fire Department or the Ovid Ambulance. Hilda Jean Peck, 78, of Benzonia, passed away Aug. 18, 2000. She was born May 23, 1922 in Ashley, the daughter of Charles and Winona (Kessling) Probst. She loved her husband, Raymond, for over 55 years. Together they moved to Benzie County in 1967 where they owned and operated Rosier's Motel and Ray's Bait and Tackle in Benzonia. She was a lover of nature and formed many close ties throughout her business career. During her spare time she enjoyed reading, taking care of her flowers and completing crossword puzzles. Her family was her greatest joy, and she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. She married Raymond Peck Oct. 23, 1944 in Miami, Fla., and he survives her. Also surviving are two sons, Michael Peck and Terry (Joan) Peck all of Benzonia; her grandchildren, Kim, Tim, Shannon, Bobbiann, Krista, Tom, Robert Charles and Raymond Joseph; her great-grandchildren, Ben, Jordan, MyKaila Jo, Levi, Tim, Shelby, James, Dean, Mackenzie, Brianna-Rai, Christopher, Kyle and another on the way; one brother, Charles "Red" (Virginia) Probst of Lansing; her brother-in-law Larry (Jo) Peck of Nevada; and her sister-in-law, Betty Creaser of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Timothy Peck. Funeral services were held Aug. 21 at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah with the Rev. Jim Boehm officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Alma T. ThelenAlma T. Thelen 94, died Saturday, August 19, 2000. She was born in Westphalia Township on February 21, 1906, the daughter of Mathias and Helen (Fedewa) Kloeckner. Alma married Louis Thelen on September 11, 1928 and he preceded her in death on November 1, 1988. Alma was a member of the Christian Mothers. She is survived by one daughter, Agatha "Aggie" Pline, two sons, Gerald (Jeanene) Thelen and Daniel (Barbara) Thelen, all of Westphalia, 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren,1 great great granddaughter, sisters, Pauline Williams of Portland, Margaret Masseau, Laurina Sebrell, Germaine Walker, Patty (D.J.) Mace, all of Lansing, Winnie Thelen of Westphalia, and Joan (Norman) Cook of Pewamo, brothers, Hilary (Mildred), Donald, both of Lansing, and Richard (Mary) Kloeckner of Portland, and sister-in-law Agnes Thelen. She was preceded in death by infant son, Gary Thelen, son-in-law, Marion Pline, two brothers, Arthur and Harold Kloeckner, and one sister, Vera Spitzley. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 22, 2000, St. Mary's Catholic Church, burial at St. Mary's Cemetery with Rev. Fr. William Ashbaugh officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Monday at St. Mary's Chapel. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 P.M. Monday. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Home.
Mary H. AdamsMary H. Adams, age 91, died August 22, 2000. Born in Winterton, Newfoundland July 25, 1909 the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Picery) Tucker. Prior to moving to Massachusetts she had lived in St. Johns and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She married Clinton Adams February 14, 1948 in Boston, MA and he preceded her in death in 1989. Mary is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth G. Marcantonio, one son Robert G. (Carol) Kelland, all of Watertown, MA, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one brother, Ebbie Tucker of Winterton, Newfoundland. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Private services will be held. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home. |
