Richard E. "Dick" Bryant

Age 84 of Elsie passed away Thursday, August 31, 2000 at his home. He was a farmer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2000 at 1:00 P.m. at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel, with Rev. Merlin Pratt officiating. Burial will take place at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, Michigan. Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday 2-9 with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 P.m.

He was born to Edwin Earl & Myrtie Mae (Metzger) Bryant on September 10, 1915 in rural Elsie on the family farm where he was raised. He lived most of her life in the Elsie area.

Survivors include one sister, Helen Hankey of Dunedin, FL and one brother, Howard E. Bryant of Ovid, MI, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.

Memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Beverly C. Harger

Beverly C. Harger died August 29, 2000 at the age of 69. She was born in St. Johns on December 11, 1930, the daughter of Edward and Clementine (Vaughn) Carter and lived most of her life in St. Johns and St. Louis. Beverly married Vernon Harger in Angola, IN on July 9, 1949 and he survives her. 

Also surviving are four sons, Ronald (Bonnie) Harger of St. Charles, Dale (Linda) Harger of New Haven, IN, Wayne Harger of Owosso, and Warren (Kim) Harger of Oakley, two daughters, Rose Marie (Patrick) Wilcox of Crystal and Deborah (Bruce) Moore of Breckenridge, fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, twin brothers, Glenn Carter of IL and Glendwyn Carter of WI, and five sisters, Verabelle (Andy) Austin of Oakley, Louise (Paul) Czap of Brown City, Bonnie (Wayne) Small of MO, Dawn (Carrol) Shivers of SC, and Ginny Wassinger of MO. She was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky and Gale, two brothers, and one sister. 

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 1, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Rev. Emilie Forward officiating. The family will receive friends 9 A.M. – 9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

Peggy L. Weber

Peggy L. Weber died August 29, 2000 at the age of 46. She was born in St. Johns on December 23, 1953, the daughter of Donald R. and Pauline A. (Tompkins) Powers and lived in St. Johns most of her life. She was an executive secretary at Barnard Manufacturing, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was past president of the PTO at Swegles Elementary. Peggy married Bruce Weber in St. Johns on October 19, 1974 and he survives her. 

Also surviving are her children, Andy Weber, Dan Weber, and Nicole Weber, all at home, mother, Pauline Powers of St. Johns, two sisters, Rita Freeman of Haslett and Susan (Lynn) Ferguson of St. Johns, brother, Gary (Karin) Powers of St. Johns, five nephews, one niece, several great nieces and nephews, life-long friend, Marti Markman of St. Johns, father-in-law, Robert Weber of Fowler, three brothers-in-law, Michael Weber of CA, Chris (Jill) Weber, and Gary (Shirley) Weber, both of Fowler, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Weber of St. Johns. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Powers and nephew Troy Powers. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 2, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Coral Richardson officiating. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made for the children’s educational fund.

Lyman M. Van Sickle

Lyman M. Van Sickle died August 27, 2000 at the age of 76. He was born in Maple Rapids on March 2, 1924, the son of Moss and Nellie (Jaquish) Van Sickle and lived all his life in Maple Rapids. He was a farmer and retired as an electrician from Sealed Power after 28 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, farming, camping, sailing, and hunting. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Maple Rapids, the Masonic Lodge in Maple Rapids, and the V.F.W. in Perrinton. Lyman married Esther Lakenen on November 22, 1947 and she preceded him in death on December 25, 1998. 

Surviving are his children, Chris (Betsy) Van Sickle of Tallahassee, FL, Randy (Rosi) Van Sickle of Fairport, NY, Jemery (Richard) Palmer of Greenville, MI, Laurie (Robert) Eisele of Houghton Lake, Kim (Floyd “Tim”) Methner of Midland, Lon (Laura) Van Sickle of Maple Rapids, and Jody, 17 grandchildren, one sister, Barbara (Gene) McWilliams of Billingham, WA, and one brother, Joe (Joyce) Van Sickle of Maple Rapids. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Beth Van Sickle and June Hyde, and one brother, A.J. “Pete” Van Sickle. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids, burial at Sowle Cemetery with Rev. Steven Lang officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
