Jean Becker

Jean Becker died September 22, 2000 at the age of 77. She was born in Greenville, Michigan May 27, 1923 to Ray J. and Mildred (Howard) Young. She graduated from Belding High School in 1941. She attended Central Michigan University for three years and was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. 

She married Kurt J. Becker in 1944 and he survives as do sons Scott (Nancy) of St. Johns and Thomas of Denver, Colorado and two granddaughters, Erika and Shannon of St. Johns. Jean was a member of the First Congregational Church for many years. She worked for Dr. S.R. Russell for fourteen years, and as a bookkeeper for her husband when they started Kurt’s Appliance Center in St. Johns in 1965. She enjoyed her family, traveling, golf, and cards. 

A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 25, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Hugh Banninga officiating. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may contribute to Hospice of Clinton County.

James E. Dennison

James E. Dennison died September 20, 2000 at the age of 35. He was born in Owosso on June 4, 1965, the son of Warren and Joan (Fowler) Dennison and lived most all of his life in Ovid. He was a robotics technician at Servo Motors in Livonia, was a 1983 graduate of Ovid-Elsie High School, and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Owosso. James married Shannon Thornton in Owosso on April 16, 1994 and she survives him. 

Also surviving are one son, Nathan, parents, Warren and Joan Dennison, brother, Bob (Denise) Dennison, all of Ovid, two sisters, Denise (Paul) Blake of Pallatine, IL and Christine (Michael) LaPrairie of Lansing, grandmother, Jimmie Fowler, special aunt, Fran Fowler, both of Lansing, mother-in-law, Carol, and father-in-law, Marlynn Thornton, four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, five nephews, two nieces, and will be greatly missed by his church family. 

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, September 22, 2000 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid with Pastor Daniel Velez officiating. Private graveside services will be held. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Thursday and 9 A.M.–3 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia Society of America, or a scholarship fund for his son, Nathan. Jim was a wonderful father, husband, and friend to all. He will be dearly missed.

Bernadette M. Doody

Bernadette M. Doody died September 19, 2000 at the age of 52. She was born in St. Johns on May 14, 1948, the daughter of R.G. and Mary (Dickenson) Warstler and lived most of her life in St. Johns. She was an assistant book manager at Michigan State University, was a 1967 graduate of St. Johns High School, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was an antique collector. Bernadette married Michael Doody in St. Johns on June 5, 1971 and he survives her. 

Also surviving are her children, Monique (Duane) Hyatt, Elizabeth Doody, Therese Doody, all of St. Johns, and Michael (Kristi) Doody, Jr. of Colorado, grandson, Dustin Hyatt, mother, Mary Warstler, sister, Catherine Beachnau, niece, Mahria Beachnau, and nephew, Pierce O’Connell, all of St. Johns. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 22, 2000 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Patricia (Coffman) Bunting

Patricia (Coffman) Bunting, 73, of Belding passed away Sept. 15, 2000. She was born Feb. 26, 1927, in St. Johns, the daughter of Warren and Ione (Slater) Coffman.

Patricia graduated form Central Michigan University with a Rural Limited Certificate in 1945 and taught in St. Johns for two years before returning to Central Michigan University for her bachelor's degree, which she received in 1949. She taught for a total of 30 years in St. Johns, Weidman, Benson Ariz., Greenville and Belding. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belding and was a Sunday School teacher. She was a Big Sister in Ionia County, a former president and member of AARP, MEA, and NEA, and she was a volunteer driver for Ionia County Commission on Aging.

Patricia is survived by three sons, Michael (Ellen) Bunting of Belding, Steve (Vonnie) Bunting of Greenville, Stacey Bunting of Coral; her grandchildren, Sarah and Tim Hall, Bobby Jo and Kelly Train, Mike and Lupita Deal, Lorie Christensen, Clint and Matt Christensen, Shayna Bunting; her great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Taylor Hall, Max and Juan Deal, Sammi Jo and Ryan Houck and Freddy and Jessie Deal; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Patsy Coffman and their children, Adam and Sam of St. Johns. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service was Sept. 29 at Johnston Fuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Connie Shatz officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, Ionia Commission on Aging, or the Alvah N. Belding Library.

Nickolas Kurczewski, 90, of Ovid , passed away Sept. 16, 2000 at home. He was retired from Visoneering Engineering in Fraser. Funeral Services were Sept. 18, at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Marcella J. Brown, 87, of Elsie, passed away Sept. 17, 2000 at Ashley Healthcare Center. She was a retired baker from the Owosso Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were Sept. 20, at the First Baptist Church in Elsie. The family was served by Smith Funeral Home.

Lillian I. Linman

Lillian I. Linman, 90, of St. Johns, passed away, Sept. 15, 2000 at Clinton Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker. Funeral services were Sept. 18, at Smith Funeral Homes. Elsie Chapel.
