Doris Isabel Case, 75, of Eureka, passed away Dec. 13, 2000 at her home. She was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Lansing, the daughter of Rudolph C. and Isabel P (McKean) Meehling. She lived in Eureka most of her life and worked as Postmaster for Eureka, retiring in 1992.

Doris married Clinton (Casey) Case Oct. 27, 1948 in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death in 1979. She was a member of Eureka Christian Church and a member of National Association of Postmasters of United States.

Surviving her is one daughter, Phyllis Givens of Eureka; one son, Clayton (Roxanne) Case of Elsie; four grandchildren, Robbi (Amy) Case of Perrinton, Casie (Steve) Gibson of Eureka, Corey Case of Mancelona, Scooter Givens of Eureka; two great-grandchildren, Ty and Abagail; one sister, Ruth Ann (Ivan) Darling of Waterville, Ohio; one brother, Raymond (Audrey) Meehling of Eureka; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Henry.

Funeral services were held Dec. 16 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Burial was at Eureka Cemetery with Pastor Doug Jones officiating. Memorials can be made to Clinton County Hospice or Meals on Wheels Program.

Evelyn J. Marrah

Evelyn J. Marrah died December 13, 2000 at the age of 87. Born in Lake Twp., Benzie County, Michigan September 16, 1913 the daughter of Clyde and Lucille (Decker) St. Clair.   She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Evelyn owned/operated Charm Beauty Shop for over 50 years.  She married Albert Marrah July 26, 1961 and he preceded her in death November 18, 2000.  Evelyn was also preceded in death by her son DeWayne Gilbert Moote.   She has six living grandchildren, seventeen living great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 15, 2000 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak officiating.  The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a rosary being prayed 8 P.M. Thursday.  Memorials may be made to Clinton Memorial Hospital Home Care.

Sharon Edith Schulze

Sharon Edith Schulze died December 12, 2000 at the age of 57. She was born in Detorit on February 8, 1943, the daughter of Kenneth A. and Marguerite A. “Marge” (Monroe) Schulze  of Zephyrhills, Florida and lived in Maple Rapids most of her life. She briefly attended Beekman Center.  Was employed at Peckham Industries, and most recently Bretton Square (Transition South). She attended the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church. 

Surviving are her parents of Zephyrhills, FL, two brothers, Kenneth “Jim” Schulze (special friend Robin Hattis)   of Maple Rapids and Karl J. (Sharon “Shari”) Schulze of Fowler, four special nephews, Kevin J. (Lon) Schulze, Kenton J. (Sharon) Schulze, Kristopher J. (Melissa) Schulze, and Kurtis J. Schulze (special friend Tayan Sawyer), several aunts, uncles and cousins, great nieces and nephews, and many special friends. 

Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 18, 2000 at Maple Rapids United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Farnum officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mid-Michigan Hospice House. Arrangements by the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids. 

Samuel H. Parks

Samuel H. Parks died December 12, 2000 at the age of 70. He was born in St. Johns on August 12, 1930, the son of Tom E. and Blanche (Dikeman) Parks and lived in St. Johns most of his life. He was a supervisor for retail and commercial construction and enjoyed gardening. Samuel married Margaret White in Angola, IN on October 8, 1951 and she survives him. 

Also surviving are four children, Karen Parks of Sarasota, FL, Kurtis (Debbie) Parks of Lowe, Juliann (Larry) Seibert, and Patti (Pete) Faivor, all of St. Johns, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, Ruth (Joe) Riley of Hubbardston, Phyllis Welton of Lake Mary, FL, and Dorothy (Jim) Quick of St. Johns. 

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, December 15, 2000 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Pastor Bob Prange officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.

James P. Lowe

James P. Lowe, 81, died December 12, 2000. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 15, 2000 at the Maple Rapids Congregational Church. Arrangements by the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Maple Rapids. Further arrangements to be announced Wednesday.

Keith F. Howell died December 12, 2000 at the age of 65. Arrangements to be announced.

Carla K. Pahl

Carla K. Pahl died December 10, 2000 at the age of 26. She was born in Owosso on October 6, 1974, the daughter of George Pahl and Maybell Coffey. She attended Shiawassee Developmental Center. 

Surviving are her father, George Pahl of Owosso, mother, Maybell and Lynwood Vincent of Owosso, brother, George Pahl of Morrice, step sister, GayLynn Seibert of St. Johns, step brother, Jesse Vincent of Arkansas, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 13, 2000 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid, burial at Fairfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends Noon-9 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Giles E. Wieber

Giles E. Wieber, loving Husband, Father and Grandfather died December 8, 2000 at the age of 85. Mr. Wieber fought a courageous battle for many years with emphysema & cancer. Born in Fowler on February 1, 1915, he was the son of Frank and Rosa (Thelen) Wieber. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3733, first bugler & one of the first members of that Post, he also was a member of  Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, K of C  in Fowler. Mr. Wieber enjoyed bowling and was very active in the church as well as in the community. He was co-owner of Wieber Lumber Company for over 50 years; he also was the Mayor of the village of Fowler in the early 50’s and severed in W.W. II. Giles married Mary Ann (Bohr) Wieber June 24, 1950. 

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann of Fowler, One son, Michael G. Wieber (Debra)   and their lovely daughter Angela Wieber all of Lansing. Two Brothers, Carl L. Wieber (Rita), Leon Wieber (Geraldine) all of Fowler. Four Sisters, Rosalyn Brown of Portage, Therese Weber (George), Joan Simon (Charles) all of Fowler, Judith Castillo (Jesse) of Lansing. In addition to his parents, Giles was preceded in death by One Brother, Mark Wieber and One Sister Jeannette Omahen. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Sunday and Monday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home with a Rosary on Sunday at 3:00 P.M. & 8:00 P.M. and Monday 3:00 P.M. Vigil service Monday 8:00 P.M. at funeral home. Memorials may be made to Donor’s Choice.

 

Carole R. Gorch

gorch.jpg (26614 bytes)Age 50 of St. Johns passed away Saturday, December 9, 2000 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan. Carole was a Customer Service Representative for Charter Communication in St. Johns.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2000, at 11:00 A.m. at Smith Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel, with Rev. Merlin Pratt officiating. Burial will take place at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, Michigan. Visitation at the funeral home will be Monday 7-9 and Tuesday 2-9, with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 P.m.

She was born in Manistee, Michigan on April 18, 1950, the daughter of Clifford & Helen (Jones) Bowerman. On April 26, 1969 she married Richard Gorch in Manistee. She loved to collect penguins and resided in Manistee before moving to St. Johns, Michigan in 1969.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Gorch of St. Johns, two sons, Brian R. Gorch of Highland, and Paul D. Gorch of Ovid, three sisters, Audrey & Jim Zahm of Grand Rapids, Sherri & Bob Kelley of Freeland, and Joyce & Carl Galloway of St. Johns, one brother, Doug Bowerman of Manistee, many nieces & nephews and a number of great friends.

Memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis.

Irene (Harpster) Tomczak

tomczak.jpg (11458 bytes)Of Ovid, MI, formerly of Clare, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2000 after a long illness.

Irene was born November 30, 1925 in Big Rapids, MI, to Russell and Pearl VanAlstine. In 1944 she married Alfred Harpster of Clare, MI. They had been married 47 years at the time of his death in 1991. They raised five children, Russell Harpster of Farwell, MI, Margaret (Dennis) Gruesbeck of Ovid, MI, Martha (Greg) Watson of Bay City, MI, Lyle Harpster of Gladwin, MI, and Alma (David) Farrison of Beaverton, MI., twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. Irene was married to Leo Tomczak of Ovid, MI, in 1992. He survives her, along with five sisters, Linda (Leonard) Lorge of Hudsonville, MI, Donna Wawee of Wyoming, MI, Mary (Larry) Toneff of Grandville, MI, Eleanor Bancroft of Torrance, CA, and Nona (Alvin) Shaver of Evart, MI.

Also preceding her in death were a brother Marvin VanAlstine and a sister Rose Heistand.

Irene was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid, and also attended the Carland-Zion Brethren in Christ Church in Carland, MI. She loved music and attended Jamborees throughout Mid-Michigan. She loved to cook and greatly enjoyed family gatherings. Mom will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7-9 and Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Funeral services will be held Friday December 8, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Elsie Chapel. Rev. Eric Stanton will be officiating. Interment at the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare, MI. Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Association.

Nellie M. Heckman

Nellie M. (Teachworth) Heckman, 77, of Ithaca, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000 at the Ovid Convalescent Home. Nellie was born May 19, 1923, in Alma, the daughter of Rollie and Leah (Kirby) Teachworth.

She married Burnell Heckman Jan. 4, 1941 in Ithaca. He preceded her in death Aug. 11, 2000.

She worked as a cook at the Ovid Nursing Home for several years and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, plants and flowers. Nellie loved her grandchildren.

She is survived by four children, Ruth Ann (Merle) Patrick of Ovid, Russell (Vicki) Heckman of Ovid, Isobel (Gary) Spellman of St. Johns and Karl Heckman of Ovid: seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Erlene Clark of Ithaca and Leota "Jean" Wood of Alma; and her brother Rollie Teachworth of Blanchard. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Darline, and her brother, Ora Teachworth.

Funeral services were Dec. 13 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Burial was at Pine Grove Cemetery.
