Edith McDiarmidEdith McDiarmid died March 30, 2001 at the age of 86. Born October 1, 1914 in Essex Township, Michigan the daughter of Ralph and Elsie (Ward) Bottum and lived in St. Johns before moving to Crystal. Edith was a homemaker and married Neal McDiarmid May 22, 1937 and he preceded her in death on December 23, 2000. Also surviving is a daughter, Maureen (Mark) Painter of Lansing, son-in-law, Norman Bancroft of St. Johns, grandchildren, Andrianna Broeman of Lansing, Mark (Melanie) Bancroft of St. Johns, Laurie (Bernie) Reuter of Clarkston, Debbie (Brian) Steir of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Allen (Kim) Bancroft of St. Johns, great grandchildren, Heather (Kurt) Hebeler, Christyn, Brianna, and Devin Reuter, Christopher and Ty Bancroft, and Ancia Smith. Edith was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Bancroft, a grandson, Chris Bancroft, a great grandson, Derek Bancroft, and a sister, Laura Gay. A Memorial Service will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service. Miguel MedinaOur beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on March 29, 2001 at the age of 87. He was born in Catorce, San Luis Potosi, Mexico on September 29, 1913, the son of Gregorio and Hilaria (Vega) Medina. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Crusillo and was an interpreter for the 65th District Court. He worked for Motor Wheel in the Maintenance Department and retired in 1975 after 32 years of service. Miguel married his wife of 61 years, Felicitas Zubia, on March 17, 1940 and she survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Emma (John) Khavari of St. Johns and Dora (Bruce) Nettleman of Eaton Rapids, two sons, Ricardo Medina and Felix (Drenda) Medina of St. Johns, twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Miguel also has six sisters, Julia Laycock of Lansing, Refugia Petrick of St. Johns, Paula Diaz of Mesa, AZ, Otilia Beebee of Florida, Juanita Smith of Owosso and Maria Elena (Cosme) Villarreal of St. Johns, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hilaria Medina and Dionicia Rositas, and one brother, Natividad Medina. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2001 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak
officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at
the Osgood Funeral Home with a K of C Rosary being prayed on Sunday at 3:30 P.M and a
parish Rosary being prayed at 7:30 P.M. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor or Hospice of Clinton County. Rebecca D. LeeRebecca D. Lee died March 28, 2001 at the age of 77. She was born in Owosso on July 1, 1923, the daughter of George and Blanche (Sherman) Lee and lived in Middleville most of her life. She was a retired elementary teacher, a 1941 graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School and Western Michigan University with a B.A. and M.A. in education, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Middleville. Surviving are one sister, Mary Ellen (Irvin) Walker of Stanton, one brother, Elvin (Lois) Lee of Lexington, KY, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Clara Lee. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Owosso, with Pastor Douglas Beason officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Middleville. Lester M. Howe of DeWitt, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed to a better life March 26, 2001. Les put up a courageous battle with bone cancer with true grit and no complaints. He was born March 1, 1926, in Lansing, the son of Myron and Lydia (Klaver) Howe. Les was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a safety appliance builder from GM in 1981, after 30 years of faithful service. He was the owner and operator of Howe's Evergreens of DeWitt. Surviving are Ann, his wife of 54 years; two daughters, J. Kathy (Gene) Gordon of London, Texas, and Susan (Jack) Zimmer of DeWitt; two sons, David (Wendy) Howe of St. Johns, and Chris Howe of Osaka, Japan; five grandchildren, Kari, Sean, Amber, Jacqueline and John; two great-grandchildren, Karina and Cody; one brother, Richard (Margaret) Howe, and one sister, Ila Wood, both of DeWitt; 10 nieces and four nephews. Funeral services were held March 29 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel with the Rev. Mural Eastman, former pastor of DeWitt Community Church officiating. Martin, 89, of Westphalia, a totally dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went home to join the Lord and his "Pauline" March 25, 2001. He was born July 17, 1911 in Westphalia, the son of Ferdinand and Katherine (Schafer) Martin. Mr. Martin was a dedicated organist for St. Mary's Catholic Church for 52 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Society and Holy Name Society. He played for several bands, worked at Westphalia Telephone Company for 23 years, and farmed all his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage; son-in-law, James Ruhl; grandchildren, Brian Martin, Jacob Martin, and Christopher Harr; sisters, Regina Hengesbach, Clara Martin, and Anna Martin; brothers, John, Nicholas, and August Martin. Surviving are his children, Josephine (Clem) Thelen, Mary Ann (Maynard) Wirth, Bernadette (James) Fox, Celine (Dennis) Harr, Rita (David) Feldpausch, and Paul (Pam) Martin, all of Fowler, Tony (Patricia) Martin, Therese (Leland) Trierweiler, Francis (Marlene) Martin, and Luke (Julie) Martin, all of Westphalia, and Imelda (Wayne) Berger of Williamston; 49 grandchildren and 81 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Hilda Bengel, Agnes Arens, and Mary Ann (Albert) Smith; several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rite of Committal following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements were by Scrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. Gladys L. SchultzGladys L. Schultz, died March 24, 2001 at the age of 85. Born in Albion, Michigan on March 28, 1915, she was the daughter of Ernest & Gladys (Lowe) Hartman. Mrs. Schultz loved her cats and enjoyed crocheting. She is survived by her five children, Robert (Beverly) Lawrence of Ovid, Janet (Bill) Good of Owosso, Gary (Darlene) Lawrence of Fife Lake, Allan (Sharon) Lawrence of Ovid, Roger (Karen) Schultz of Ovid, one stepson, Duane (Sally) Schultz of Millington, 17 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Leslie Lawrence and Carl Schultz, and parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her son Philip Lawrence. Funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Burton Kincaid officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Sunday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday at the Houghton Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shiawassee. Lucille M. BoakLucille M. Boak died March 23, 2001 at the age of 84. Born in Bengal Township, Michigan December 16, 1916 the daughter of Erford Z. and Bessie F. (Myers) Patterson. She was a homemaker and a member of First Congregational Church and the Bengal Grange. Lucille was also a former 4H Leader and volunteered over 30 years in various community activities including Hazel Findlay Manor and Clinton Memorial Hospital. Her marriage of 56 years to Cecil D. Boak on February 26, 1938 ended with his death August 23, 1994. She is survived by her two sons, Douglas Boak of Eaton Rapids and Donald (Pam) Boak of St. Johns, eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Arlene Wing of Winter Haven, Florida and Jessie (Walter) Kaufman, Jr. of Weidman, MI, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary Heller. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 27,2001 at First Congregational Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Matt Olson and Rev. Cayle Beagle officiating. The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Monday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hazel I.
