Lois E. Daniel

lois_daniel.jpg (10632 bytes)Age 86 of Ovid, Michigan passed away Monday, April 2, 2001 at her home. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 6, 2001 at 10:00 A.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid. Rev. Fr. Paul Cummings will officiate. Burial will take place at South Ovid Cemetery, Ovid, Michigan. Visitation will be at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel on Wednesday from 6-8 and Thursday from 2-8 with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.m. There will also be a Scripture Service Thursday evening at 5:30 P.m.

Lois was born in Shiawassee County, Michigan on September 8, 1914, the daughter of William and Eva (Carlton) Cross. She graduated from Perry High School with the Class of 1932. On January 20, 1940 she married George Daniel in Owosso, Michigan. He passed away on January 4, 2001. She retired from Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso, from the Housekeeping department. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid, a member of the Altar Society and was a volunteer for Grey Ladies at Carson City Hospital. She resided most of her life in Perry, Morrice, and Ovid, Michigan.

Survivors include one daughter, Veronica & Donavon Schutt of Ovid, MI, three sons, John & Jean Daniel of Ovid, MI, George Daniel of Lansing, MI, and Charles & Pam Daniel of Decatur, IL, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, and one sister, Myrtle Austin of Perry, MI.

She was predeceased by her parents, and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Clinton County Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Sandra L. Washburn

Sandra L. Washburn died April 1, 2001 at the age of 60. She was born in St. Johns on July 2, 1940, the daughter of Willard and Belva (Gardner) Searles and lived in St. Johns most of her life. She was an office manager/bookkeeper for M.I.C.A.P./A.A.D.I.F. Sandra married William Washburn, Sr. in Marquette, MI on September 22, 1959 and he survives her.  

Also surviving are three sons, Geoffrey (Laura) Washburn of Port Huron, MI, William (Renea) Washburn, Jr., Tioga, TX, and Kenneth Washburn of St. Johns, one daughter, Connie (Miguel) Martinez, Jr. of St. Johns, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sisters, Sharon (Jerry) Burch, Joyce (Gary) Weinley, and Cindy (Joe) Geller, all of St. Johns, two brothers, Leon Searles and Randy Searles, both of St. Johns, and step mother, Lillian Searles of St. Johns. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, William Searles, and step father, Ivan Fidler. 

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor W. J. (Bill) Amundsen officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Mercy Hospital-Port Huron (Cancer Program).

Elouise R. Harris 

Elouise R. Harris died April 1, 2001 at the age of 81. She was born in St. Johns on January 8, 1920, the daughter of W. George and Rachel (Crosby) Irving and lived in St. Johns most of her life. She was a seamstress with Sears for over 25 years. She was a 1937 graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School, was the first Mint Queen in St. Johns (1936), a member of the First United Methodist Church, was an active leader in the United Methodist Women group at the local and district levels, was the secretary of the South Bingham Cemetery Association, organized a quilting group, enjoyed crafts and reading. Elouise married Leon Harris in Detroit on December 9,1939 and he survives her.  

Also surviving are five children, Joyce (Paul) Blakeslee of DeWitt, Karen (Al) Peterson of Tustin, Sylvia (Charles) Hutchinson of Lake Odessa, Bruce (Jean) Harris of Wyandotte, and Gaylynn (Dale) Isenhoff of Orange Park, FL, eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one step sister, Lucille Worrall of Newberry. 

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Rev. Carol Floyd officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist’s U.M.W. Society for Missions.

Richard G. Lotre

Richard G. Lotre, 62, of DeWitt, passed away March 29, 2001. Richard was born in Hazel Park, Oct. 8, 1938, the son of Albert and Grace (Nicholas) Lotre. He lived in DeWitt most of his life.

He retired from General Motors in 1998 after 30 years of service. Richard was a member of the Catholic Community of St. Jude, Knights of Columbus, and served 15 years on the City of DeWitt Volunteer Fire Department.

Richard is survived by his loving family, his wife of 43 years, Margie; three daughters, Linda (Todd) Burns of Dimondale, Sherri (Mark) Stewart of Lansing, and Diane (Gary) Peatross of DeWitt; two sons Michael (Patricia) Lotre of Puerto Rico and Mark (Pamela) Lotre of Okinawa, Japan; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathy (Tom) Walter of DeWitt and Mary (Gary) Crosby of Grand Ledge; and one brother, David Lotre of DeWitt.

The funeral Mass was celebrated April 2 at the Catholic Community of St. Jude with the Rev. Dwight Ezop officiating. The Rite of Committal was held in DeWitt Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, Mich., 48909-9986.

Mamie A. Skaryd

skaryd.jpg (9136 bytes)Age 88 of Bannister, Michigan passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Ovid Healthcare Manor in Ovid.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 8, 2001 at 2:00 P.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rev. Jana Jirak and Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be Friday 6-8 and Saturday 2-8 with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.m.

Mamie was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 8, 1912, the daughter of Charles & Elizabeth (Motz) Kubinger. On September 23, 1933 she married John Skaryd at the Bannister United Methodist Church in Bannister, Michigan. She worked for the lunch program at the Bannister Public School. She was a member of the Bannister United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the ZCBJ Lodge #225 in Bannister. She resided most of her life in Bannister, Michigan.

Survivors include her husband, John Skaryd of Bannister, MI, two daughters, Barbara Galehouse of Ovid, MI, and Mary Sue & Oren Christmas of DeWitt, MI, four sons, Gearold & Lena Marie Skaryd of Ashley, MI, John & Sharon Skaryd of Saginaw, MI, David & Yong Cha Skaryd of Lansing, MI, and Robert & Linda Skaryd Sr., of Elsie, MI, fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, three sisters, Jenny & Robert Mahoney of Lansing, MI, Lillian & Robert Schubel of Florida, and Rose Santrucek of Owosso, MI.

She was predeceased by her parents, one son James, and one grandson John Micka.  

Memorials may  be made to Bannister United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
