Agnes Elizabeth Korienek
Age 79 of Bannister, Michigan went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2001 at her daughters home in Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 4, 2001 at 11:00 A.m. at St. Cyrils Catholic Church in Bannister, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Clarence Smolinski will officiate. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel on Wednesday 7-9 and Thursday 2-9 with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 P.m. There will also be a Rosary Service Thursday evening at 7:00 P.m. at the Funeral home. Agnes was born in Eureka, Michigan on April 8, 1922, the daughter of Mikel and Georgie (McPherson) Phillips. She graduated from Bannister High School with the Class of 1937. On May 4, 1938 she married Joseph Korienek Jr. at St. Cyrils Catholic Church in Bannister. He died on May 19, 1989. She was a homemaker and former correspondent for the Gratiot County Herald; she also worked with the Migrant Worker Program in Ithaca, Michigan. She was a former employee of Darlings Hardware in Elsie and also worked for the Ashley Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Cyrils Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. She resided most of her life in Bannister, Michigan. Survivors include four daughters, Jeanne & Jim Callahan of North Carolina, Joan & John Burnham of DeWitt, MI, Sister Jacinta (Jane) Korienek of Ohio, adopted daughter, Gabriel Ojnik of Ohio, three sons, Joseph & Marian Korienek III of Ada, MI, Jim & Diane Korienek of St. Johns, MI, and Daniel & Cathy Korienek of Lansing, MI, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, and one sister, Bette & Victor Kristin of Arizona. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, one son, Jerald, and three sisters, Goldie, Louise, and Doris. Memorials may be made to the Music Program at St. Cyrils Catholic Church or the Crippled Children Fund. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Age 70 of Corunna, Michigan passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 5, 2001 at 11:00 A.m. at Elsie United Methodist Church in Elsie. Rev. Merlin Pratt will officiate. Burial will take place at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Fairfield Township, Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday from 7:30 to 9 P.m. and Friday 2-9 with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 P.m. Dorothy was born on September 28, 1930 in Fairfield Township, Michigan, the daughter of Elmo & Ella (Walter) Horton. She retired from ITT Hancock in 1991 after 25 years of service. She resided most of her life in the Bannister and Elsie area. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy (Thomas) Hildner of Bozeman, MT, Connie (Ed) Thornton of Elsie, MI, and Carol (John) Whitaker of Chapin, MI, two sons, Michael Luznak of Lakeland, FL, and Dennis Luznak of Owosso, MI, eleven grandchildren, Jamie (Jeff) Zwolensky, Rhonda Knutson, Michael Luznak, Craig (Jody) Thornton, Erika (Mike) Maas, Kyle Thornton, Dennis J. (Lanette) Luznak, Brian Luznak, Chad Luznak, Jason Luznak, and Kate Hildner, four great grandchildren, one sister, Alice Ensign of Flagstaff, AZ, and one brother, Walter (Shirley) Horton of Owosso, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, and one sister, Annabelle Heath. Memorials may be made to the Ovid or Elsie Public Library or Mid-Michigan Hospice House. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Donald A. "Donnie" Banks, 54, of DeWitt, passed away April 29, 2001. He was born March 31, 1947 in Lansing, the son of Jerome and Lorayne Banks. Donnie graduated from Everett High School in 1965 and was married July 20, 1974. He was currently employed by Cooley Law School and had previously worked for several other construction companies as a carpenter and was a long-time member of the Carpenters Union Local #1004. Donnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, chopping wood, MSU basketball, his beagles, spending time at the cottage on Lake George, and at the cottage in the U.P. in Gulliver - where he spent the last days of his life. He loved campfires and just being outside in the great outdoors. Donnie was preceded ion death by his beloved son, Brook, and his father, Jerome Banks. Surviving are his wife, Sherri; daughter, Brandie; mother, Lorayne Banks; brother, Dave Banks of Wisconsin; sister, Debbie ()Chris) McKinney of Laingsburg; mother and father-in-law, Eugene and Phyllis White of DeWitt; sisters-in-law, Tammy (Jerry) Bergey and Angie (Delbert) Sutton both of Dewitt; brother-in-law, Perry (May) White of North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. Funeral services were held May 2 at Gorsline-Runciman Co. , DeWitt Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Wilkinson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of DeWitt, officiating. Interment was at DeWitt Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan, 1669 Hamilton Rd., Suite 210, Okemos, 48864-1809. Hazel K. Kennedy, 90, of Lansing, passed away April 4, 2001. She was born April 18, 1910 in Lake Odessa, the daughter of the late Jacob and Olive Stair. Mrs. Kennedy had been in retail sales for many years, including being employed by Green's Apparel and starting additional stores for Mother To Be Maternity Shops. She was a member of the VFW Post #701, Ladies Auxiliary. Hazel was a loving wife and mother, she will be greatly missed by family. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Claude; children, Jerry (Bina) Schray, Gordon (Audrey) Schray, Karolyn Cooper and Charlene (Thomas) Eash; 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; her sister, Vesta Hummel of Saranac. Funeral services were April 7 at the Palmer Bush Delta Chapel with the Rev. Dr. William Barber officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Ronald Martin Schafer, 71, of Muir, passed away April 29, 2001. He was born Aug. 24, 1929 in Pewamo, the son of Arnold and Dorothea (Halfmann) Schafer. He married Margaret Daller May 12, 1956 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Miriam. He was a farmer most of his life retiring in 1994. He graduated from Pewamo High School, Class of 1947. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the Fowler VFW Post #3733. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hubbardston and of the Knights of Columbus Council #2198 in Hubbardston/Carson City. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Schafer of Muir; three daughters, Karen (Steven) Riley of St. Joseph, Carol (Herbert Nelson) Fink of Webberville, Nancy (Randy) Phelps of Ada; seven grandchildren, Jared, Janae, Colin, Eric, Kailee and Derek; two sisters, Eveline (Edmund) Miller of Pewamo and Beatrice (William) Karber of St. Johns; four brothers, Stanley Schafer, Gilbert (Joanne) Schafer, Delbert (Agnes) Schafer, all of the Pewamo, and David (Barbara) Schafer of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister-in-law, Ermaline Fedewa of Pewamo. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph Schafer. Mass of Christian burial was held May 3 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hubbardston with Fr. William Reitz officiating. Final resting place is in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Hubbardston. Memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or for masses. Glenn Higbee was born Oct. 8, 1913, in St. Johns, to Roscoe and Madge (Stoddard) Higbee. The family moved to Lyons, where he attended Murphy & Lyons schools and then moved to Pewamo, where he attended Pewamo School. As a youth he worked as a farm laborer, construction worker, and with the CCC camps before hiring into Motor Wheel Corporation, retiring in 1974 after 27 years of service. In 1944 Glenn joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as Water Tender Third Class on the Destroyer Escort USS Joseph E. Connally. After the war he joined the V.F.W. Edwin J. Leyanna Post #671, DeWitt. In the early years Glenn enjoyed building and racing stock cars and riding his Indian motorcycles. He dearly loved his family. Surviving are Lora Mae (Linsey), his wife of 48 years; daughter, Patricia (David) Doening of Mason; son, Paul (Sondra Jenks) of Williamston; four grandchildren, Joshua, Michael (Rachel), Jesse and Amanda; brother, Sylvester (Betty) of Mason; sister, Ginger Webster of Palm Gardens, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. His greatest pleasure with his family was pulling their travel trailer and enjoying the great sights of the United States. During his retirement years he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home spending winters in Texas and Zephyrhills, Fla. He, along with his son Paul, rebuilt a 1948 Indian Chief Motorcycle and enjoyed displaying it along with his large collection of antique gasoline engines. Glenn helped Bob Beck develop Becks Meadows Flea Market and was a flea market master for many years. He was most proud of establishing and organizing the annual Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Show, which is held every year in May at Beck's Meadow. One year Art Wainwright, from WILX TV station, interviewed him and named home 'The Engine Man'. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bernita Mooney; and two brothers, Richard and Willard. Funeral services were held May 5, at Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel. Interment followed in Gunnisonville Cemetery, with Military Graveside services provided by the V.F.W. Edwin J. Leyanna Post #671, DeWitt. U.S. 27, DeWitt, 48820. Robert H. Pierce, 93, of Bath, went to be with the Lord May 1, 2001. He was born Jan. 4, 1908 on his family's farm in Bath Township. He lived in Bath his whole life. He was a 1925 graduate of Bath High School. Robert was united in marriage to Bethel B. Tihart Oct. 11, 1933. After he retired from a lifetime of farming he became a residential builder and excavator. He also drove a school bus, and served on the Board of Review. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He remained young and adventurous many years by doing such things as riding his motorcycle, tobogganing with his grandchildren, and flying his own airplane. Through the later part of his life he enjoyed spending time with his family. In 1936 Robert became a member of the Valley Farms Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary (Bedaine) Pierce, and two brothers. He is survived by Bethel his loving wife of 67-1/2 years; their children, Bruce (Caroline) Pierce of Ovid, and Carolyn Donahue of Bath; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mike (Linda), James, and Jessica Pierce, Kathy (Phil), Cody, Jacob, and Dillon Thelen, Steve (Cheryl) and Kyle Pierce, Andrew Donahue, Shawn Donahue, and Carrie (Jeremy) and Tristan Peters. Funeral services were held May 5 at the Bath Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Cole officiating. Graveside services followed in Rose Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bath Baptist Church. Ean Andrew FeldpauschEan Andrew Feldpausch, infant, passed away April 30, 2001. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on April 29, 2001, the son of Andrew and Darlene (Shue) Feldpausch. Surviving are his parents, twin sister, Caitlyn Margaret, of Kenosha, WI, grandparents, Clem and Ruth Feldpausch, great grandfather, Clare Falor, all of Fowler, cousins, Mikayla, Zachary, Andy, Kyle, Tyler, Travis, and Tanner, and several aunts and uncles. Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 11, 2001 at East Plains Cemetery. |
