Douglas Cole Harvey

Harvey-Doug.jpg (8511 bytes)Our beautiful angel has gone to be with our Lord. Douglas Cole Harvey, 22, lost his long and courageous three year battle with Primitive Neuroectodermal cancer on May 8, 2001.
Douglas was born March 7, 1979 in Lansing. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1997. He attended Northwestern College in Lima, Ohio for five months before the cancer invaded his body. Douglas was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout and made it all the way to Life Scout. He also played baseball and soccer. He was on the J/V and Varsity soccer teams. Douglas’ passion was old Mopars. He loved to work on any old cars, except maybe Fords! He enjoyed playing video games and running his R/C cars. Douglas belonged to the First Baptist Church with his close church family, the Havilands. Douglas was very blessed with many friends who showed their support during his long journey.

He is survived by his parents, Mark and Debbie (Hart) Harvey and his fiancé Kristen Chapko. His aunts and uncles also survive him: Dawn Hart-Allen, West Olive, MI; Rick (Janet) Hart, St. Johns; Karen (Al) Latimer, Dave (Linda) Harvey, Bob Harvey all of Marseilles, IL; Mike Harvey, Myrtle Beach, SC; Stephen (Sherry) Harvey, Largo FL; Keith (Clare) Harvey, Ottawa, IL; his grandfather’s wife Vickie Hart, Shelbyville, MI and Kristen’s parents and sister, Dan, Julie and Angie Chapko, St. Johns. He is also survived by his “Special Angel”, his home health care nurse, Michele Kench. Several cousins also survive him. He was preceded in death by grandparents Douglas and Joy Hart, Kenneth and Eleanora Harvey, his uncle Randy Hart and his aunt Janet Harvey.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 12, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Union Home Cemetery with Pastor Tim Knaus, Duane Haviland, and Mike Gehoski officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Clinton County Hospice or Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit.

Mark J. Koenigsknecht

Koenigsknecht-Mark2.gif (30088 bytes)Mark J. Koenigsknecht passed away May 9, 2001 at the age of 71. He was born in Fowler on April 3, 1930, the son of Nicholas and Margaret (Thelen) Koenigsknecht and lived all his life in the Fowler area. He was employed by Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries for 33 years and was a farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, and an usher. Mark married his wife of 48 years, Mary Elizabeth Simon, in Westphalia on May 6, 1953 and she survives him. 
 

Also surviving are one son, Dale J. (Shirley) Koenigsknecht, one daughter, Karen (John) Shinaver, all of Fowler, six grandchildren, Ashley, Amber, and Scott Koenigsknecht, Adam, Austin, and Morgan Shinaver, six brothers, Fr. William Koenigsknecht of St. Johns, Benno (Laura) of Jackson, Nick (Marge) of St. Johns, Roman (Mary Ann), John (Carolyn), all of Fowler, and Frank (Joan) of Pentwater, and four sisters, Louise (Jerry) Burns of Hubbardston, Rose Smith of Jackson, Susan Stump of Pewamo, and Agnes (Leon) Keilen of Westphalia. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leo and Arnold Koenigsknecht, and two sisters, Martha Koenigsknecht and Helen Stump. 

Mass of the Christian burial will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 12, 2001 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher and Rev. Fr. Bill Koenigsknecht con-celebrating. A rosary will be prayed 8 P.M. Thursday and 3 P.M. Friday and a vigil service 8 P.M. Friday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Duane M. Kimmel

kimmel.jpg (6987 bytes)Age 66 of Barryton, Michigan died Friday, May 4, 2001 at his home. He had worked for Oldsmobile in Lansing for 35 years, retiring in 1989.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 7, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, Michigan. Rev. Valerie Reynolds will officiate and burial will take place at North Star Cemetery in North Star, Michigan. Visitation will be Sunday 2-9 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 7-9 P.M.

Duane was born in North Star, Michigan on August 1, 1934 the son of Clinton & Hazel ( Carothers ) Kimmel. He Graduated from Ashley High School with the Class of 1952.

Survivors include his Fiancé Beverly Brown of Barryton, 2 daughters, Karen Kalkman of Bay City, Sheila & Piet VanWeel of Oregon; 2 sons, Jeff & Lupe Kimmel of Ovid, James & Gloria Kimmel of Elsie; 1 stepson, Mike and Mina Bigjoe of Washington; 4 sisters, Wanieta & Elton Bigelow of Ashley, Ruth & Joe Malek of Ashley, Sharilyn Ann & Jim Chilcoat of Ithaca, Rosemary Bancroft of Clio; 3 brothers Lester & Sandy Kimmel of Marion Springs, Ivan Kimmel of Elsie, James & Judy Kimmel of Ithaca. Duane was predeceased by his Parents, 5 sisters & 2 brothers.

Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

James A. Gallagher

James A. Gallagher died May 7, 2001 at the age of 59. He was born in Perrinton, MI on June 25, 1941,the son of Olen and Evelyn (Smith) Gallagher and lived most of his life in Ovid. He was a D.P.W. Specialist for the Village of Ovid and was a 1959 graduate of Fulton High School. James married Mary Myers in Perrinton on March 23, 1968 and she survives him.  

Also surviving are one son, James A. Gallagher of Dimondale, MI, one stepson, Randy L. Grubaugh of Ovid, two step daughters, Robin (David) Wood of Eaton Rapids and Suzanne Johnson of Ovid, seven grandchildren, one sister, Barbara (Jim) Iler, three brothers, John (Jerilou) Gallagher, Ron (Edna) Gallagher, and Garry (Kathy) Gallagher, and sister-in-law, Sherri Gallagher, all of Perrinton. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 11, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Maple Grove Cemetery with Rev. Robert Magee officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Ovid Fire and Ambulance Departments.

Laurine C. Schafer

Laurine C. Schafer died Saturday, May 5, 2001 at the age of 89. Born in Westphalia on May 29, 1911, she was the daughter of William and Anna (Fernholz) Thelen. Mrs. Schafer was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church – Pewamo and an avid card and bingo player.  

She is survived by her son Norman Schafer (Beverly) of Lyons, one sister, Adeline Bryner of Portland, 10 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and her daughter-in-law, Arlene Schafer of Pewamo. In addition to her parents, Laurine was preceded in death by her husband George Schafer, one son, Hilary Schafer and one grandson, Terry Feldpausch. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, burial at St. Joseph Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, 7-9 P.M. and Tuesday, 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Fowler,  with Rosary at   8:00 P.M. Monday and 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, and scripture service 8:00 P.M. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church – Educational Fund or Hospice House of Mid Michigan. 

Dorothy  M.  Platte

Dorothy  M.  Platte, age 105, died Friday, May 4, 2001. She was born November 30, 1895 in Wyandotte and moved to Westphalia in 1930 with her husband John Platte.   They operated Platte's Confectionery Store for 29 years. Mrs. Platte ran the store for 12 years after John's death in 1947.  

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane (Ted) Simon and her grandson, Roy (Lou Anna) Simon, all of East Lansing. 

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 7, 2001 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westphalia. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.at St. Mary's Chapel in Westphalia with a Rosary being prayed Sunday 3 & 8 P.M. Memorials may be made to Fr. Miller Trust Fund.  The family is being served by Osgood Funeral Homes, St. Johns.

Mabel A. (Ellis) Johnson

Mabel A. (Ellis) Johnson died May 7, 2001 at the age of 83. She was born in Rimersburg, PA on March 25, 1918, the daughter of Alfred and Pearl (Shaw) Seabury. 

Surviving are one son, James (Carolyn) Silvis of Mason, four grandchildren, Todd (Lisa) Silvis of Munising, MI, James (Beth) Silvis of Albion, MI, Tracy (Michael) Wing of Michigan Center, MI, and Wendi Krauss of Mason, MI, ten great grandchildren, one brother, William (Hazel) Seabury of New Alexandria, PA, one sister, Edith Ritenour of Union Town, PA, and several nieces and nephews. 

There will be no service or visitation. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home.
