John F. Orson

John F. Orson died May 31, 2001 at the age of 86. Born in Newark, NJ November 21, 1914 the son of Benedict and Rozalia (Jancik) Orson. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and retired from the Clinton County Road Commission in 1970.  

Surviving are one brother, Frederick (Doris) Orson of St. Johns, two sisters, Mary Wilckens of Phillipsburg, NJ and Stephanie Kowalski of Belleville, NJ, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Benedict Orson in 1951 and Charles Orson in 2000, and brother-in-law, Bill Wilckens.  

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 4, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a vigil service 7:30 P.M. Sunday. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
 

Lawrence E. Kuhns

Lawrence E. Kuhns died May 31, 2001 at the age of 96. Born May 13, 1905, he was the son of Ernest and Retta (Fesler) Kuhns and lived most of his life in St. Johns.  He was a member of the First Methodist Church, life member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge #105, life member O.E.S. #79 and was an avid golfer, bowler, fisherman and hunter.  He retired from Diamond Reo after 44 years of service.  On August 3, 1929 he married Evaline Marshall and she preceded him in death November 13, 2000.  

Surviving are a daughter-in-law Ethel Kuhns of St. Johns, granddaughter Lisa (Gerald) Hollis, twin sisters Letha Bashore and Etha Eisler all of St. Johns.  He was preceded in death by one son Richard Kuhns, one sister Loraine Cornell and three brothers, Gale, Dean and Lyle Kuhns. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 2, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home with burial at Union Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made Meals on Wheels.

Arthur R. Wilson

Wilson-Arthur.jpg (8645 bytes)Arthur R. Wilson died May 29, 2001 at the age of 58. He was born in Mt. Pleasant, MI on January 6, 1943, the son of Richard and Alice Bilcox and adopted son of Orin and Victoria Wilson. He was an employee of Magnesium Products of America in Eaton Rapids. 

Surviving are his former wife, Marilyn Wilson of St. Johns, five daughters, Jeri Sue Wilson of Columbus, OH, Karen (Aaron) Dault of St. Johns, Sherry (Keith) Coffman of Bannister, Vicky (Dan) Chapko of Elsie, and Laura (Ron) Miller of Dewitt, 21 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sister, Mary (Robert) Case of Harrison, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and adoptive parents. He now rests with his adoptive mother, Victoria Wilson, whom he loved dearly. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 2, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

George R. Seymour

George R. Seymour died May 29, 2001 at the age of 92. Born in Wacousta, Michigan on June 5, 1908 the son of George R. and Olive F. (Stevens) Seymour.  He worked as a State Trooper, Weighmaster for the Department of Transportation and retired as the Cedar Springs Chief of Police.  George was also a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.  He married Dorothy A. Steele November 21, 1940 and she survives him.  

Also surviving are two sons, Barry Seymour of Manistee and Duane (Maryann) Seymour of Jension, two daughters, Pamela (Jack) Russell of Charlotte and Valerie (Dennis) Kadzban of Kent City, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren.  George was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Roy and Maynard Seymour, and four sisters, Hazel Merrill, Emma Falor, Lulu Blizzard, and Bernice Pickell. 

The family will receive friends 10:30 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. Friday, June 1, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 P.M. Friday at the Wacousta Cemetery with Rev. Lyle Heaton officiating. 

Cecil “Pete” Thompson

Cecil “Pete” Thompson, died May 27, 2001 at the age of 81. Born in South Ovid, Michigan on October 21, 1919, he was the son of Alton and Ellen (Robinson) Thompson. He was an avid hunter and fishermen. Pete was married 62 years to Doris Thompson (Miller) on January 9, 1939 and she survives him. 

He is survived by three daughters; Shirley A. Palatka (Steve Sr.) of Elsie, Sharon L. Zell (David) of Ovid and Cinda S. Vincent (Karl) of Severn, MD., one son, Paul W. Thompson (Sandra) of Weaverville, N.C., 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, one sister, Hazel Seelhoff (Donald) of Ovid. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. 

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Houghton Chapel, Ovid, with Pastor Robert Prange officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes. Memorials may be made to Family Wishes or Laingsburg Ambulance Service.

Ronald W. Motz

Ronald W. Motz, died May 26, 2001 at the age of 83. Born in St. Johns on July 15, 1917 , he was the son of Anthony and Christine (Mueller) Motz. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, K of C, V.F.W., American Legion all in St. Johns and Purple Heart Association. Ron was married 53 years to Georgia Motz (Wahl) on April 6, 1948 and she survives him. 

He is survived by one son, Ronald Motz (Eva) of Okemos, one daughter, Carla White (Mike) of St. Johns, four grandchildren, Joshua Emerson, Tristan Motz, twin girls Megan and Jenna Motz, one step grandson, Jerome White, two brothers, Art Motz (Rita) of St. Johns and Jack Motz (Barbara) of Missouri, two sisters, Beatrice Jorae and Hilda Hufnagel both of St. Johns. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Fran Motz, and one sister, Marion Sohn. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak officiating. The family will receive friends Monday 6-8 PM and Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Osgood Funeral Home with a Scripture service at 8:00 PM on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the WWII Monument Fund in Washington D.C.

Thomas Kangas

Thomas E. Kangas, 32, of DeWitt, died May 25, 2001. He was born Nov. 29, 1968, in Crystal Falls.

Tom was preceded in death by his Shih Tzu, Ashley.

Surviving are his parents, Wayne and Chris Kangas; two brothers, Todd (Christine) of Westland and Tim (Deb) of Lansing; grandmothers, Anna Kangas and Ruth Skuggen both of L'Anse; several nieces, nephews; and his Shih Tzu pal, Cassie.

The funeral Mass was celebrated May 29 at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, DeWitt, with the Rev. Dwight Ezop officiating. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2450 Delhi Commerce Drive, Suite 11, Holt, 48842. Arrangements were by the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel.

Adin Kenneth Shank

Adin Kenneth Shank, 88, died May 30, 2001. He was born Nov. 17, 1912, the son of Norman and Etta (Northrop) Shank.

Adin lived in Indiana until the age of 17, when he sold the Civil War era family farm and moved to Michigan with his mother. Adin continued to visit the farm and family over the years, most recently last year.

In Lansing, Adin first worked for the Lansing Dairy, then at General Motors, retiring in 1974 after 40 years of service. He was an active member of Valley Farms Baptist Church and served in many positions within the Church.

Not only a veteran of World War II as a paramedic, he was also a "true son" of a Civil War Veteran (one of only two left in the State of Michigan), being an active member of Curtenius Guard Camp 17, Sunfield.

Adin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arletta; his children, Adin (Jean) Jr. of Lansing, Art (Maureen) of DeWitt, Larry of Lansing and Sheila (Jerry) Parsons of Lansing; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held June 2 at Valley Farms Baptist Church, Lansing, with the Rev. Jon Lambert, Pastor, officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing. Memorials may be made to Valley Farms Baptist Church.
