Peter F. Nieuwkoop died August 10, 2001 at the age of 88. Born in Cadillac April 30, 1913 the son of Anthony and Jennie (Zigter) Nieuwkoop. He married Vivian L. Bever October 6, 1934 in Manton, MI and she survives him. Both were brought up in Manton where he became Postmaster. Later he entered the ministry and was ordained in the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Port Huron. During his 42 years of ministering he served in a number of Baptist Churches in Michigan. Several of the last churches he served were Northville Baptist Church, Maranatha Baptist Church in Lansing, and the First Baptist Church in St. Johns. Also surviving is one daughter, Jean (Edward) McKeehan of Harper Woods, MI, one son, Roger (Susan) Nieuwkoop of Clinton Township, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one brother, Cornelius "Casey" Nieuwkoop of Grand Rapids and one sister, Thelma Sprague of Manton. Peter was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Herbert Nieuwkoop. Funeral Services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 12, 2001 at the First Baptist Church, St. Johns, with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. Committal services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 13, 2001 at Fairview Cemetery in Manton, MI. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 7-9 Saturday at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to the Gideon Living Memorial, Hospice for Clinton County or the St. Johns First Baptist Church Building Fund. Gregory Thelen died August 10, 2001 at the age of 87. He was born in Pewamo on October 8, 1913 the son of Anthony and Helena (Miller) Thelen. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo. Gregory married Geneva Fedewa in Westphalia on August 19, 1939 and she survives him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Nancy Richardson, Diane Thelen, Terri (Mike) McClaran, all of Colorado, & Linda (Dan) Smith of DeWitt, one son, Robert (Ruth) Thelen of St. Johns, 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Scott Richardson, one brother, Louis Thelen and three sisters, Leona Leach, Loretta Thelen and Mary Ann McPherson. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 13, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, burial at St. Joseph Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason officiating. The family will receive friends beginning 2:00 P.M. Saturday at St. Mary's Chapel, Westphalia with Rosary being prayed 3 & 8 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Homes, St. Johns. Age 84 of Bannister died Wednesday, August 08, 2001 at Twin Oaks Foster Care Home in Elsie. She was a homemaker and lived most of her life in Bannister & Ashley area. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 11, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel with Rev. Merlin Pratt and Mr. Larry Howland officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery in Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday & Friday from 2-9 P.M. and family present 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Helen was born in Gratiot County on June 21, 1917 the daughter of Emanuel & Rosa ( Hacker ) Studeny. She graduated from the Ashley High School with the class of 1935. On April 20, 1940 Helen married William Evans in St. Johns, Bill died November 26, 1990. She was a member of the Elsie United Methodist Church, ZCBJ Lodge #225 of Bannister. Survivors include 3 daughters, Shirley & Artie (Wayne) Brown of Ashley, Alyce & Larry Howland of Elsie, Dee & Don Nelson of Dewitt, 2 sons Ron & Joanne Evans of Ashley, Roger & Cara Evans of Bannister. 11 Grandchildren, Tammy (Brian) Forman, Scott Bashore, Todd (Michelle) Bashore, Treasa Evans & Steve, Michael Evans, Lonnie (Lisa) Brown, Lori Brown, Rick Evans, Randy Evans, Nicole Goddard, Kim Goddard, 5 Great Grandchildren, Alysin, Molly, Brandon, Faith and Conner. 3 sisters Mary Labuda of Chicago, Lillian Zaucha of Ypsilanti, Louise Stasa of Tampa. She was predeceased by her parents, 1 great grandson, Kameron Evans, 1 sister Rose MacKenzie. Memorials may be made to the Clinton County Hospice Program or Twin Oaks Foster Care Home. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Sister Adeline Schneider, 74, went to be with the Lord July 24, 2001. She was born in Westphalia Jan. 26, 1927 to Andrew and Mary (Rademacher) Schneider. Sister was a member of the Sisters of Christian Charity. She entered the convent Aug. 11, 1945. Profession of First Vows was Aug. 21, 1948, and Perpetual Vows Aug. 29, 1954. She was a teacher and secretary. Surviving are two sisters, Germaine (Robert) Nurenberg of St. Johns, Marie (Jack) Martin of Pewamo; one sister-in-law, Agnes Schneider of Carson City; five brothers, Donald (Alice) Schneider of Fowler, Gerald (Theresa) Schneider of Grants Pass, Ore., Leonard (Pat) Schneider of Portland, Richard (Helen) Schneider of Westphalia, and Edwin (Monica) Schneider of Perrinton; many nieces and nephews. Sister was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Alfred, Melvin, and Stanley; two sisters-in laws, Margaret and Irene. The funeral Mass was celebrated July 27 at Sacred Heart Convent in Wilmette, Ill., burial at the Sister's of Christian Charity Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Convent c/o Sister Harriette 2221 Elmwood Dr. Willmette, Ill., 60091-1435. Esther E. Seidel died August 4, 2001 at the age of 90. She was born in Saginaw, MI on May 17, 1911, the daughter of Lavant and Augusta Ludlum and lived in Saginaw and Ovid most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Esther married Frank Seidel in Saginaw on July 13, 1941 and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1997. Surviving are three sons, George (Carol) Seidel, Carl (Pat) Seidel and Walter (Cathy) Seidel, all of Ovid, eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and one sister, Mildred Hensler of Freeland, MI. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 9, 2001 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, St. Johns, burial at Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. George Brinley officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid. Memorials may be made to the Ashley Healthcare Center or St. Johns Lutheran Church. Age 76 of Maple Rapids, Michigan died Friday, August 3, 2001 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. He retired from Motor Wheel in 1977. Memorial services will be held Monday, August 6, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Hope Bible Baptist Church in Maple Rapids with Pastor Steven Lang officiating. Burial will take place at Lowe Cemetery, Clinton County, Michigan. Dale was born in St. Johns, Michigan on April 21, 1925, the son of Herbert and Mary (Smith) Plowman. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1943. On February 25, 1967 he married Eilene Goodwin at Lowe United Methodist Church. He was a member of Hope Bible Baptist Church in Maple Rapids. Survivors include his wife, Eilene of Maple Rapids, two daughters, Mary & Alfred Miller of Dimondale, and Trina & Robert Brizzee of Rushville, NY, two sons, James & Donna Plowman of St. Johns, and Alan & Laura Plowman of Covington, KY, eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, one brother, Lyle & Joyce Plowman of Gladstone, and one sister, Dorothy Waldron of Fowler, also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a son Jeffrey, and a daughter Sally. Memorials may be made to Hope Bible Baptist Church in Maple Rapids. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Carl Alfred Youngs, 93, of Lansing, died Aug. 8, 2001. He was born May 2, 1908, the son of Ralph and Bessie (Noyce) Youngs. He lived most of his life in Lansing. He graduated from Central High School in Lansing. He retired from Oldsmobile in 1970. He was a member of the archery club and he enjoyed playing golf and bowling. He married Fleda Berger in Lansing June 6, 1931. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Diane Harger of St. Johns; one son, David Youngs of Leota; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. There were no services. The family was served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. |
