Howard G. Purvis Sally Ann Hettler
 

Sally Ann Hettler

Our loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away September 10, 2001, at the age of 69 after a long illness. Sally was born in Ann Arbor on January 31, 1932, the daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Hummel) Saurbek. She lived in St. Johns all her adult life. She devoted her life to her family and will be sadly missed.

Mrs. Hettler was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack J. Hettler, her brother, Jack Saurbek, and her grandson, Troy J. VanBelkum. Surviving are her sons, Mike (Deb) of St. Johns, Jody (Camie) of Nipomo, CA, Jim (Julie) of Lansing, Chris, Jeff (Bonnie), and Kurt, all of St. Johns. Also surviving are daughters Pam (Jim) VanBelkum of Stuarts Draft, VA and Cindy (Bruce) Irish of St. Johns, 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 14, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at Osgood Funeral Home Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. and Thursday between 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sally had requested that memorials be made to the Make A Wish Foundation.

Howard G. Purvis

Purvis-Howard.jpg (10940 bytes)Howard G. Purvis died September 9, 2001 at the age of 85. He was born in Lansing on July 7, 1916, the son of Sherman and Winifred (Twitchell) Purvis and lived in the Clinton County area all his life. He retired from Warnert Swasey Truck factory in 1975, was former sexton at Eureka Cemetery, worked at Mt. Rest Cemetery, and operated the St. Johns Bait Shop. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of V.F.W. Post #4113 in St. Johns.

Howard married Betty Lance in Owosso on March 11, 1946 and she survives him. Also surviving are daughter, Linda Horvath of St. Johns, son, George (Beatrice) Purvis of Pompeii, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Military graveside services provided by V.F.W. Post #4113 and American Legion Post #153.
