Dawn Lietzke | James T. Schafer |
James T. Schafer, loving husband, father and grandfather, died September 20, 2001 at the age of 72. He was born in Pewamo, MI on February 19, 1929, the son of Sylvester and Johanna (Halfman) Schafer and lived in Pewamo and Fowler all his life. He retired from General Motors in 1987 as an electrician and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War. He was an active member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and involved with the Catholic Cursillo movement, was a member of V.F.W. Post #3733 and a board member of R.A.V.E. James married Agatha I. Bauer in Lansing on May 14, 1955 and she survives him. Also surviving are six sons, Chris (Rachelle) Schafer, Daniel (Margaret) Schafer, all of Holt, Anthony (Janet) Schafer, Richard "Maynard" Schafer, all of Fowler, Kenneth (Julie) Schafer of Westphalia and Randal (Gwen) Schafer of Fremont, five daughters, Bonnie (Jon) King, Sharon (Fred) Christopherson, Virginia (Stephan) Turner, all of Lansing, Sandra Schafer of Toledo, OH and Rose Schafer of Lexington, SC, twenty-six grandchildren, brother, Jerome (Kaye) Schafer of Midland and sister, Alice (Donald) Schneider of Fowler. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Grace Cousineau. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 24, 2001 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Ronald Jandernoa and Rev. Ray Rademacher officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler, with rosary prayed 3 and 8 P.M. Saturday and 3 P.M. Sunday and a scripture service 8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Agatha I. Schafer, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died September 24, 2001 at the age of 70. She was born in Fowler on February 22, 1931, the daughter of Edward and Rose (Miller) Bauer and lived in Fowler most of her life. She was an active member of the Most Holy Trinity Parish and involved with the Catholic Cursillo movement, a member of Confraternity of Christian Mothers and was a volunteer for R.A.V.E.. Agatha married James T. Schafer in Lansing on May 14, 1955 and he preceded her in death on September 20, 2001. Preceded in death by her parents, brother, Leon Bauer and sister, Patricia Jandernoa. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 28, 2001 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery, with Rev. Fr. Ronald Jandernoa officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler, with rosary prayed 3 and 8 P.M. Wednesday and 3 P.M. Thursday and a scripture service 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Retreat House in DeWitt. Dawn Lietzke, 81, of DeWitt died Sept. 10, 2001. She was born in Lansing Nov. 10, 1919, the daughter of Christopher and Cecil (Barnes) McGinnis. She lived most of her life in the DeWitt area. She was a former Sears sales clerk and sewing instructor.She was a member of St. Anne's Church in DeWitt. Dawn married Kermit Lietzke in Lansing Nov. 10, 1937. He preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1990. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Pete Konstas of Arlington, Virg.; son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Debbie Lietzke of State College, Penn.; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Clee (Joseph) Rooney of Cheverly, MD.; and brother, Virgil (Betty) McGinnis of Streator, Ill. Funeral services were held Sept. 15 at St. Anne's Church, DeWitt, burial at Wilsey Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Williamson and the Rev. William Ericson officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Helen J. Stratton, 62, died Sept. 18, 2001. Born May 16, 1939 in Wheeler Township, Michigan the daughter of Anton B. and Anna F. (Mikus)Smolka. She was a 1958 graduate of Ashley High School and worked in transportation at St. Johns Public Schools and retired from FederalMogul. Helen was a former Girl Scout Leader, founding member of the St. Johns Sea Lions, and former member of the American Quarter Horse Association having raised Quarter Horses for many years. She was alsoan avid gardener. On January 23, 1960, Helen married Arthur A. Stratton and he survives her. She is also survived by her six daughters, Susan (Tim) Beaufore of St. Johns, Helene Stratton of Ovid, Debra (Dale) Lauermann of Dewitt, Gloria Stratton of Seattle, Washington, Valerie (Richard) Kiel and Diane Stratton of St. Johns, seven grandchildren, Emily Kiel, Ian (Lauermann) Tolleson, Connor Kiel, Lydia Stratton, Taylor Doll, Duncan and John Kiel. Helen also has one sister, Mary Ann (Lawrence) Stehlik of Ithaca, four brothers, Andrew (Nancy) Smolka of St. Louis, John (Joan) Smolka of Ithaca, Joseph (Carol) Smolka of Bannister, and Anthony (Joann) Smolka of Ithaca, former sister-in-law, Helen Teelander of Custer, Michigan, and many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and one sister, Frances Smolka. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 22, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy and Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday and Friday 2-4 P.M. & 6-8 P.M. at the Osgood Funeral Home with a rosary/vigil service being prayed Friday 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Clinton County. Sandra K. (Boling) Bashore died Saturday, September 15, 2001 at the age of 38. Sandra was born March 10, 1963 in St. Johns, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Canning) Boling. She graduated from St. Johns High School in 1981 and lived most all her life in St. Johns. Sandra was a secretary at Michigan State University. Surviving are two sisters, Brenda (Walter) Hoten and Linda (Pat) Gallagher, brother Brad (Jill) Boling, all of St. Johns, half-brother Dan (Nicole) Boling of Lansing, father Robert Boling of Crystal Lake, MI, one niece and two nephews. Private services were held. Memorials may be given to Huntington's Disease Society of America. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home. |
