Melissa J. (Jopke) Stephens

Stephens-Melissa.jpg (5708 bytes)Melissa J. (Jopke) Stephens died Sunday, October 7, 2001at the age of 56. She was a passenger of a car that was involved in a car-deer accident. Melissa was born in Cadillac, MI on September 11, 1945, the daughter of Paul F. and Mabel H. (Kennett) Jopke. She was a graduate of Michigan State University with a BA Degree in Graphic Design and Art History and was a member of  the MSU Alumni Association. The degree that she earned led to a successful career in advertising with some of the leading agencies and companies in America including I. Magnin, San Francisco, CA., Dayton Hudson Department Store Company, Minneapolis, MN., Avanti/Case Hoyt, Miami, FL., and Ambrosi & Associates, Chicago, IL.

Surviving is her life partner Frank Thayer of Eagan, MN, one brother, Paul K. Jopke of St. Johns, MI, one sister, Catherine A. (Thomas) Pouch of Toledo, OH, three nieces, Kimberly Rhynes, Brooke and Melissa  Jopke, one nephew, Christopher Pouch, two cousins Jerome Jopke of East Lansing, MI, and Dr. Janet Jopke of Troy, MI. Melissa was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 P.M. Saturday, October 13, 2001 at St. John's Episcopal Church, St. Johns, MI. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the donor's charity of choice in Melissa's memory. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, MI 989/224-2365.

Richard G. Moser

Richard G. Moser, of Ovid, 74, World War II veteran and retired Eli Lilly salesman, died Sept. 10. Memorial services 10 a.m. Saturday at Osgood Funeral Home, Houghton Chapel, Ovid.

David Thompson Borland III

David Thompson Borland III DeWitt Age 61, died October 9, 2001. Born June 28, 1940 in Detroit, MI, Mr. Borland graduated in 1958 from Grosse Pointe High School and received his B.A. from Eastern Michigan University in 1962, M.A. from the University of Michigan in 1964 and Ed.D. from Indiana University in 1970. He was a Middle School Teacher and Coach, Associate Professor of Student Affairs at University of Miami, Ohio, Assistant to the Dean at Ferris State College, Registrar at North Texas State University, President of the American College President Association and was an Arbitrator and Mediator for 20 years with the American Arbitration Association. He enjoyed being a family man, private pilot, bowler, was a NASCAR fan, and jazz enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter John Borland and stepfather, Edward Rateick.

Surviving are his wife, Judith; 3 sons, Dean Thompson (Tess) Borland, Kurt Matthew (Heidi) Roy-Borland and Matt Thompson (Stacey) Borland; stepdaughter, Kathy (Roger) Annis; stepson, Brent (Jean) Hagenbuch; grandchildren, Evan Pope, Abigayle Borland, David Thompson Borland IV, Erin Annis, Erika Annis, Aubrey Annis, Nicole Hagenbuch and Adam Hagenbuch; mother, Virginia Louise Rateick; sister, Diane Ferweda; niece, Becky and nephew, David.

Memorial services will be held Friday, October 12, 2 p.m. at the South DeWitt Church of Christ, 2931 Herbison Road, DeWitt with Henry Hawver, Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Those desiring may make contributions to The Hospice Residence, 3411 Stoneleigh, Lansing, MI 48910 in memory of Mr. Borland. The family is being served by the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, East Lansing.

Margaret Sperl

sperl.jpg (8611 bytes)Age 77 of Elsie, Michigan passed away Sunday, October 7, 2001 at her home. She was a Homemaker and resided most of her life in Elsie.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at 2:00 P.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel with Pastor Audie Clairmont officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Monday, 7-9 P.m. and Tuesday from 2-9 with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 P.m.

Margaret was born in Pompeii, Michigan on February 2, 1924 the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Skriba) Porubsky. On June 28, 1947 she married John Sperl in Bannister, Michigan he later died on December 31, 1973.

Survivors include her two children, Ken Sperl of Columbus, Ohio, Patty Mulder of Ovid, Michigan five grandchildren, Jeremy Sperl of Naples, Florida, Makell Mulder of Ovid, Michigan, Brian Sperl of Columbus, Ohio, Lacey Mulder of Ovid, Michigan, Kelley Sperl of Columbus, Ohio, one great grandson Bryce Mulder of Ovid, Michigan, one brother Bill & Florence Porubsky of Bannister, Michigan. Margaret is predeceased by her husband, and seven brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shiawassee County. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Chad T. Rowell

Chad T. Rowell, 23 died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 as the result of an auto accident.   Chad was born May 11, 1978 in Carson City the son of Gale & Mary (Moore) Rowell.  He attended Fowler Schools, graduated from St. Johns Adult Education and was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  Chad was employed at L & L Food Store-St. Johns.

Survivors are his parents, 2 sisters Stacie & Troy Schafer-Okinawa, Japan, and Sherine & Gary Lance of Lansing.  Brother Brian Rowell of Fowler.  2 Nieces Tiara and Brooke Schafer and nephew Jordan Schafer. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl & Elizabeth Rowell and Thomas & Marion Moore.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Oct. 10, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Ray Rademacher officiating.  Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery.  Rosary services will be at Goerge Chapel-Osgood Funeral Home at  3 & 8 P.M. Monday, and 3 p.m. Tuesday.  A vigil service will be prayed at 8 P.M. Tuesday.

Norbert W. Rademacher

Norbert W. Rademacher, 62, of Owosso passed away Oct. 8, 2001 at Memorial Healthcare Center. He was born April 6, 1939 in Dallas Township, the son of Louis and Mary (Dwyer) Rademacher.

He served in the U.S. Army and worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation for 38 years retiring in 1997.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; five children, Paul Rademacher, Lisa Fisher, Nancy Rademacher, all of Owosso, Thomas Rademacher of Milwaukee, Wis., and Laura Rademacher of Owosso; four grandchildren, Stacey and Scott Fisher, and Kellie and Kaitlin Rademacher; three sisters, Mary (Reynold) Martin of Portland, Clarita (Robert) Fedewa of DeWitt and Janice (Mike) Fox of Winterhaven Fla.; four brothers, Jerry Rademacher, Sr., Edward (Sue) Rademacher, Leo (Janet) Rademacher, all of Grand Ledge and Matthew (Jean) Rademacher of Lansing; sister-in-law, Clare Rademacher, of Bath; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles Rademacher.

Funeral services were held Oct. 11 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Owosso, with Fr. Robert D. Kolenski officiating. Burial was at South Bingham Cemetery, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Church or American Cancer Society. The family was served by the Nelson House Funeral Home.

Leo M. Norris

Leo M. Norris  (LEE) Lansing Age 78, passed away on October 6, 2001, is now at eternal rest with his wife, Alice of 51 years. Lee was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, in which he served in World War II and was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. Lee married Alice M. Youch on January 24, 1948. Mr. Norris was an avid league bowler; he also enjoyed his winters in Florida, and summering in Harrison, MI. Lee is survived by 2 sons, James A. (Karen) of Leslie, William A. (Connie) of Dansville; 1 daughter, Leanne M. (James) Braman of St. Johns. Also 6 grandchildren, Brenda, Carrie, Tim, Billy, Jeff, and Curt, along with 10 great-grandchildren. There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 8, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ingham County Care Facility in memory of Mr. Norris. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Alberta I Coston of DeWitt., retired Motor Wheel cost accountant, died Thursday, October 4. There will be no services. Arrangements by Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel
