Arvilla Irene Newton

arvilla.jpg (9644 bytes)Age 64 of Corunna formerly of Elsie, Michigan died Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility in Corunna, Michigan. She was a homemaker and loved to play Bingo.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 20, 2001 at 10:00 A.m., at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie chapel. Pastor Roger DeVore will officiate. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Friday 2-8 with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.m.

Arvilla was born in Elsie, Michigan on April 24, 1937, the daughter of Frank Nelson & Edith (Arvilla) Robinson. She attended Elsie High School and graduated from Corunna High School. In August 1965 she married Phillip Newton in Harrison, Michigan. He died in 1986. She resided most of her life in the Elsie and Ovid area.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonny & George Flanner of Arkansas, and Lora Newton of Owosso, MI, three sons, William & Karen Black of Owosso, MI, Mark & Tara Black of Lansing, MI, David & Marcia Black of Owosso, MI, twenty-one grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, two sisters, Helen Patterson of Harrison, MI, Edith & John Phelps of Ovid, MI, and a special nephew, Robert Robinson of Chapin, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, three grandchildren, two sisters, Elizabeth & Nettie, and four brothers, Howard, George, Frank & Milo.

Memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Katherine M. Watson

Katherine M. Watson died October 19, 2001 at the age of 94. Born in Greenbush Township, Michigan on November 6, 1906, the daughter of Homer and Kittie A. (Andrus) Becher.  She was a member of the Elsie United Methodist Church, life member of Order of Eastern Star #69-Elsie, and founding member of the Colony Extension Club.   She formerly worked at the Hicks Store and was a clerk for the ASCS-Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service, retiring in 1973.  Katherine married Park Dunn
Watson August 28, 1929 and he preceded her in death April 28, 1971. 

She is survived by her son, David (Patricia) Watson of Coldwater, two grandsons, Scott (Sandra) Watson of Oak Grove, Missouri and Chris (Darla) Watson of Zeeland, Michigan, two great granddaughters, Rochele and Stephanie Watson, one sister, Dorothy Knight of St. Johns, and two brothers, R.G. (Florence) Becher of St.Johns and Miles Becher of Ionia. In addition to her husband, Katherine was preceded in death by one great grandson, Nickolas Watson, and two sisters, Pauline Crapser and Marjorie Kiesling.  

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 22, 2001 at Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Duplain Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 3-6 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kellogg's Eye Center, 1000 Wall Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48105.

Robert F. Reed

Robert F. Reed,  Bath Born May 23, 1933, in Lansing; died October 16, 2001 at the age of 68. Mr. Reed was a veteran of the Korean War having served with the United States Army and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He retired in 1988 from the East Lansing Post Office after 28 years of service and enjoyed delivering meals-on-wheels and playing his guitar for the homebound. Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary, infant son, his parents, Ruby and Royal Reed and sister, Judy North.

Surviving are 1 daughter, Sharon (Robert) Britton of Lansing; 1 son, Robert (Kathy Jean) Reed Jr., of DeWitt; 5 grandchildren, Melody and Deeana Britton, and Alexandria, Michael, and Jeffrey Reed; 2 brothers, Richard (Therese) Reed and Leon (Audrey) Reed and special nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 20, at 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing. Interment will follow in Rose Cemetery, Bath. The family will receive friends at the Chapel on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to the Clinton Memorial Hospital Home Health Care Services or to the Clinton County Meals-on-Wheels, envelopes will be available at the East Chapel, in memory of Mr. Reed.

Carolyn M. Ayers

Ayers-Carolyn2.jpg (10229 bytes)Carolyn M. Ayers died October 15, 2001 at the age of 57. She was born in Lake City, MI on November 27, 1943, the daughter of Roy and Ethel (Davis) Lowery and lived in Maple Rapids since 1973 coming from Lansing. She was a homemaker and a member of Hope Bible Baptist Church in Maple Rapids. Carolyn married Robert Ayers, Jr. in Lansing on March 23, 1968 and he survives her.

Also surviving are one son, Andrew Ayers of St. Johns, three daughters, Jennifer (Jerry) Densmore of Elkhart, IN, Lisa (Mike) Mudget of St. Johns and Amy (Gary) Parks of Ashley, six grandchildren, one sister, Betty Dinnis of Scottsville. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 19, 2001 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Sowle Cemetery with Rev. Steven Lang officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hope Bible Baptist Church.

Levi H. Pritchard

Age 73 of Lansing formerly of St. Johns, Michigan died Friday, October 12, 2001 at Tendercare South in Lansing, Michigan. He worked at the former St. John’s Hardwood Sawmill.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at 1:00 P.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel with Rev. Eric Stanton officiating. Burial will take place at Bingham Township Cemetery, St. Johns, Michigan. Visitation will be at 11:00 A.m. until the time of the service.

Levi was born in Sumner, Michigan on April 11, 1928, the son of Leo D. and Eva B. (Bennett) Pritchard. He resided most of his life in St. Johns.

Survivors include three sisters, Alice Peoples of Ashley, MI, Betty Roe of Pontiac, MI, Patricia Pritchard of Ithaca, MI, one sister in law, Lorna Pritchard of St. Johns, MI, and many nieces and nephews. His parents, three brothers, Junior, Leo, and Homer, and three sisters, Dorothy, Alvena, and Laura Jean predeceased him.

The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.

Ivan S. Harlow

Ivan S. Harlow of St. Johns died October 12, 2001 at the age of 77. He was born in Gratiot County on April 8, 1924 the son of Virgil and Pearl (Peters) Harlow and lived at his present address for 45 years. He was a farmer, was active with the Tri County Electric Board and Board Member of Fowler Co-Op Elevator. He was an avid hunter and The Original Breeder of the "Hayworth Creek Line Treeing Walker Hounds." Ivan married Margaret Chant on August 30, 1944 and she preceded him in death. He married Jean (Romelhart) Shepherd in Lansing on April 25, 1980 and she survives him.

Also surviving are 2 sons, Roy (Lois) Harlow and Ross (Sharon) Harlow, all of St. Johns; 3 daughters, Yvonne (Robert) Leslie of Mt. Clemens, Vicki Devereaux and Rachel (John) Hollingsworth, all of Midland; 1 stepson, Herb Shepherd, Jr. of Florida; 1 stepson-in-law, Jim Neel of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; 1 brother, Richard Harlow; 1 sister, Shirley (Raymond) Henderson-Urbaniak, all of California; 1 niece, Bonnie Lou Roberts and 1 special nephew, Rick Harlow. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdaughter, Judy Neel on September 8, 2001. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2001 at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids, burial at Sowle Cemetery with Rev. Wesley Farrier officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday, and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Clinton Memorial and Sparrow.

Richard G. Moser

Richard G. Moser died September 10, 2001 at the age of 74. Born August 21, 1927 in Newaygo County, Michigan the son of Charles and Della (Coverly) Moser.  He was a retired salesman with Eli Lilly of Indianapolis, Indiana. 

Richard is survived by his children, Bruce (Amy) Moser of Madison, WI, Mike (Regina) Moser of Austin, TX, William (Patricia) Moser of Ovid, Teri (Tom) Crandell of North Bend, WA, & Steve Moser of Southfield, and thirteen grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.  

Memorial Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 13, 2001 at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid with Roy Yoder officiating.  The family will receive friends 9-10 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

Roselene I. Royston of DeWitt, 83, died Monday October 15, 2001. Memorial services 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Hope Church, DeWitt. Arrangements by Gorsline-Runciman DeWitt Chapel.

Denis H. Fandel

Denis H. Fandel, age 66, beloved husband, father, grandfather, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2001. He was born on April 15, 1935 in Westphalia, the son of Herman and Hildegard (Platte) Fandel. Mr. Fandel was a member of St., Mary's Catholic Church and retired as a manager from Zeeb Fertilizer Company after 38 years of service. He served on the Westphalia Village Council, was a President and on the Board of Directors of the Westphalia Telephone Company. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Fandel.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Marilyn; children, Cathy (James) Fedewa of Portland, Bruce (Sandy) Fandel of St. Johns, Tim (Jamie) Fandel and Lisa (Scott) Smith, both of Westphalia; grandchildren, Renee (Eric), Kelly, Kristen, Kyle, Austin, Zachary, Ryan, Allison, Billy, Bailey, Kelsi, and Kayla; sisters, Ernestine (Alvin) Fox of Fowler and Jean (Bernard) Bengal of Westphalia; many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2001 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, Westphalia from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday. The rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. both days. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Charity of One's Choice, in memory of Denis H. Fandel. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
