Hufnagel died December 5, 2001 at the age of 86.  Born January 8, 1915 in Greenbush Township, Michigan the daughter of Anthony and Christina (Mueller) Motz.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ladies Altar Society, and the St. Johns Womens Club.  Hilda was also a member of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel having graduated from C.M.U. She is fondly remembered by her many students whose lives she touched through her teaching that spanned over 35 years at St. Joseph Catholic School.  She retired in 1980 from her teaching career.  She married Albert "Jake" Hufnagel September 21, 1937 and he preceded her in death December 17, 1983. 

Hilda is survived by two daughters, Anne Montfort of Connecticut and Betsy (David) Everett of California, one son, Anthony (Lana) Hufnagel of St. Johns, ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.  She also has one sister, Beatrice Jorae of St. Johns, two brothers, Arthur (Rita) Motz of St. Johns and Jack (Barbara) Motz of Missouri, and sisters-in-law, Harriet Motz and Georgia Motz, both of St. Johns.  In addition to her husband, Hilda was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Anthony Hufnagel, one sister, Marion Sohn, and three brothers, Herman, Francis and Ronald Motz. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 10, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Douglas Osborn officiating.  The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a Rosary being prayed 8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Education Trust Fund or Hospice for Clinton County.

John G. Wirth

John G. Wirth, 29, of Westphalia, loving and devoted husband, father, and son passed away Dec. 4, 2001.

He was born in Ionia Dec. 8, 1971 the son of William C. and Betty (Feldpausch) Wirth.

John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Westphalia Knights of Columbus Council 2890, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University and worked the last seven years for the State of Michigan in the Auditor General's office. He coached football and loved basketball, softball, hunting and fishing. His greatest love was his wife and children, whom he adored very much.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William J. Wirth, and Sylvester and Odelia Feldpausch; father-in-law, Bruno Thelen; nephew, Noah Thelen; cousin, Wayne Wirth.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley, of Westphalia, and children, Marissa, Brenna, and Cameron; parents, William C. and Betty Wirth of Westphalia; mother-in-law, Jean Thelen of Westphalia; brothers, Jim (Shannon) Wirth of Westphalia, and Jeff (Belinda) Wirth of Minnesota; sister, Jenny (Doug) George of Pewamo; grandmother, Carolyn Wirth of Westphalia; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor Dec. 7 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rite of Committal following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. Memorial contributions may be made to his children's educational trust fund, c/o Shirley M. Wirth.

Arthur A. Puhlman

Arthur A. Puhlman, Jr., 71, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of St. Johns passed away Dec. 4. He was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Arthur and Lucy (Ball) Puhlman Sr.

He married Marcia Osborn in February 1953. Arthur was in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. Following the service he worked for two years with S.S. Kressge then to Elias Brothers where he helped them open their seventh store. In 1973 he became the owner of The Clock restaurant from which he retired in 1993.

Arthur was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia; six children, Cheryl Vodicka, Scott (LuAnn) Puhlman, David (LeeAnn) Puhlman all of Mt. Pleasant, Peri (Brian) Fausett of Shepherd, Chris Puhlman of Mt. Pleasant and Eric (Shana) Puhlman of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren, Melissa Vodicka, Matthew Vodicka, Patrick Vodicka, Laurie McNeil, Stacey Reen, Connor Puhlman, Ryan Fausett, Adam Fausett, Ashley Fausett, Christopher Robinson, Justin Puhlman and one great-grandson, Parker McNeil. He was preceded in death by his parents, and parents-in-law, Ray and Nell Osborn.

A memorial service was held Dec. 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Fr. Douglas Osborn and Fr. Robert Byme CO-officiating. Memorials may be made to Pardee Cancer. The family was served by the Clark Funeral Chapel.

Larry L. Wagner Sr.

wagner.jpg (6902 bytes)Larry L. Wagner Sr., 54, of Ashley, died Dec. 3, 2001 at Carson City Hospital, Carson City. He was born March 16, 1947 in Marshall, the son of R.Z. and Mary (Nixon) Wagner.

He lived in Ashley most of his life. He was a welder at Clinton Machine in Ovid.

Surviving are three children, Larry Wagner Jr. of Ashley, Melissa Wagner of Owosso and Leah Wagner of Durand; two brothers, Terry Wagner of Florida and Loren Wagner of Ashley; two grandchildren, Cara Jo and Austin; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Dec. 6, 2001 at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel with Rev. Jerry Drummond officiating.

Suzanne M. Richmond

Suzanne M. Richmond, 46, of St. Johns, died Dec. 2, 2001. She was born in St. Johns Dec. 14, 1954, the daughter of Martin and Alice (Hainer) Richmond. She lived in St. Johns all her life.

She graduated from St. Johns High School in 1973, was a nurse aide and a member of Hope Bible Baptist Church.

Surviving are her parents; sister, Brenda (William) Wilson; brother, Marty Richmond, all of St. Johns; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Dec. 6 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Pastor Steven Lang officiating. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Patricia A. Weber

Patricia A. Weber of  Fowler died December 1, 2001 at the age of 65. Born in St. Johns on November 25, 1936, she was the daughter of Clare and Jenny (Bernardski) Smith. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. Patricia married Alan Weber on April 29, 1953 in Wytheville, VA.

She is survived by her husband, Alan Weber of Fowler; 4 daughters, Shelly Hoffmeyer (Chuck) of Lansing, Diane Feldpausch (Ralph) of Fowler, Susan Weber of Traverse City, Cindy Huffnagel (Luke) of Fowler; 3 sons, Richard Weber (Graca) of Jacksonville, AL, Jim Weber (fiancee Denise) of Fowler, Tom Weber (Kelly) of Fowler; 21 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Patricia also has 3 brothers, Alan Smith (Gert), Dick Smith (Janet), Lynn Smith (Sharon) all of St. Johns, one sister, Donna Flanner of St. Johns. In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her son, Michael Weber; sister, Linda Smith; granddaughter, Amber Rose Huffnagel.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home with a Rosary Service being prayed 3 & 8 p.m. Monday and 3 p.m. Tuesday, and a Scripture Service Tuesday at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Clinton Memorial and Sparrow.
