Jean Stersic

Jean Stersic of St. Johns died Dec. 15, 2001. She was born in Plumas, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of John and Katherine (McKenzie) McLead.

She was a member of Eureka Christian Church and Northeast Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Fla. She worked in retail sales at J.L. Hudsons in the Northland Mall. She truly enjoyed people and was active in various church organizations.

Funeral services were held Dec.17 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with Pastor Bob Ditmer officiating. Interment was at Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley. Memorials may be made to Hospice.

Eric D. Wakefield

Eric D. Wakefield died December 17, 2001 at the age of 51. He was born in Ann Arbor, MI on December 16, 1950, the son of Ward and Helen (Rydman) Wakefield and lived in Clinton County most of his life. He was a welder with BNM Trailers in Elsie, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, attended Greenbush United Methodist Church and loved to hunt and fish.

Surviving are his mother, Helen Wakefield of St. Johns, sisters, Connie (Bob) Blackmer and Daria (Bruce) Aldrich, all of St. Johns, brother, Jay (Doreen) Wakefield of Laingsburg, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father.

Private services were held. Memorials may be made to Greenbush United Methodist Church.

Joseph Patrick McCarthy

Joseph Patrick McCarthy, loving son of Patrick McCarthy and Jackie (Joseph) Scholl; dear brother of Jason, Jessica, Jason and Joe; grandson of Leonard McCarthy and Norma Brozowski, died Thursday, December 13, 2001 at the age of 12. Joey was born April 25, 1989 in Lansing and attended Hayes Middle School. He was a member of the wrestling team and band.

Services were held Saturday, December 15, 2001 at SS. John & Paul Catholic Church in Washington, Township, MI, interment in Romeo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Joey McCarthy Memorial Fund, c/o Patrick McCarthy.

Mary A. Kostolni

Mary A. Kostolni died December 14, 2001 at the age of 89. Born December 8, 1912 in Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Frank and Magdaline (Chuhak) Kostolni. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and spent her life working on the family farm.

Mary is survived by one sister, Margaret Kostolni of Elsie and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John and Joseph Kostolni.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Monday,  December 17, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns with a Rosary being prayed at 7 P.M.

Richard A. Rademacher

Richard A. Rademacher, age 64, died December 14, 2001. He was born April 6, 1937, the son of Alfred and Clarice (Lafler) Rademacher. He was retired from General Motors Assembly, served in the military stationed in Augsburg, Germany. Richard was a  life member of Masonic Lodge # 306, member of UAW Local # 652 and former member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and the Maple Twirlers Modern Western Square Dancers. He married Rosalie Chapman on August 10, 1957 and she survives him.

Also surviving are daughter Roshelle (Jeff) Waldron and grandchildren Clay and Cameron Waldron of Fowler. One brother, Michael (Jan) Rademacher of White Cloud and two step-brothers, Kirk (Robin) Burl of Ashley and Donald (Helen) Kasper of Sanford, mother in law Mable Chapman, brother and sister in law Gail and Sandra Williams of Fowler, Nephews Scott (Annette) Williams, Allen Williams, and Ryan (Amy) Rademacher. Nieces Betsy Rademacher and Abigail and Cassidy Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Rodney and father in law Dale Chapman.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at Maple Rapids Congregational Christian Church burial at Sowle Cemetery with Pastor  Jerry Kissling officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Sunday and Monday at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Maple Rapids. Memorials may be made to the Congregational Christian Church of Maple Rapids, or the Kidney or Heart Foundations at the University Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI.

Lila P. Miller

miller.jpg (8156 bytes)Age 90 of Bannister, Michigan died Thursday, December 13, 2001 at Ashley Healthcare Center in Ashley. She was a homemaker and worked at Redmonds Manufacturing during WWII.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 17, 2001 at 11:00 A.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Billie Lou Gillespie-Brown and Pastor Jana Jirak will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Saturday 7-9 and Sunday 2-9 with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 P.m.

Lila was born on February 9, 1911 in Owosso, Michigan the daughter of Lloyd & Myrtle N. (Corp) VanDeusen. She graduated from Elsie High School with the Class of 1929. On February 28, 1931 she married Ralph Miller. He died on March 8, 1987. She was a member of Chapin United Methodist Church, and also a member of the Cresant Club, Farm Bureau, Fenmore Ladies Aid and a 4-H leader. She resided most of her life in Bannister.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Helen & Raymond Rhea of Elsie, 1 son, Walter & Marilyn Miller of Elsie, 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and one sister, Irene Horn of Owosso. She was predeceased by her parents, 1 daughter, Erma Jean Shaffer, and 1 grandson, Jason Mead.

Memorials may be made to Chapin United Methodist Church or Bannister United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
