Dean McKay

Dean K. McKay, 66, of Ovid, died Aug. 3, 1998. He was born Sept. 24, 1931 in Corunna, the son of John and Beatrice (Kerby) McKay. Dean graduated from Lansing Eastern High School, and Central Michigan University with a bachelor of arts degree in education. He taught physical education and math, and served as assistant principal at Ovid-Elsie Area Schools. He retired in 1992.

He married Sylvia K. Randall June 2, 1956, in Lansing. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, Knights of Columbus-Owosso 4th degree, and the Lansing Moose Lodge. He had served in the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving are his wife, Sylvia; son, Michael of Lansing; two daughters, Daneen Miller, and Jill (Dale) Greenhoe, all of Ovid; six grandchildren, Steven, McKayla, and Kathleen Miller, and Nicholas, Devan, and Gregory Greenhoe; a sister, Shirley Weaver of Westland; two brothers, John (Jack) D. McKay of California, and Kenneth W. McKay of Mt. Morris. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 6 at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Robert McKeon and the Rev. Fr. Dan Wunderlich officiating. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid. Memorials may be made to Ingham County Hospice, St. Jude Leukemia Research, or the American Diabetes Association.

Wayne Swagart

Wayne W. Swagart, 83, of St. Johns, died Aug. 3, 1998. He was born Aug. 28, 1914, in Bengal Township, the son of John and Belle (Rosekrans) Swagart. He was a farmer, and was retired from General Motors, Lansing, in 1980. He lived most of his life in the rural St. Johns area. He was a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church, St. Johns.

Wayne married Rose Simunek Nov. 17, 1935, in LaGrange, Ind., and she survives him. Also surviving are his son, Jon (Villa) Swagart of St. Johns; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sandra; great-granddaughter, Audrey, 2; two brothers, Clare and Rex; and a sister, Helen.

A memorial service was held Aug. 5 at Smith Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Sundell officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to Pilgrim United Methodist Church, or the charity of the donor's choice.

William Gager

William "Bill" Raymond Gager, 55, of Owosso, died July 31, 1998. He was a truck driver. A memorial service was held Aug. 4 at the Cornerstone Church of God, Owosso. Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.

Agnes Ann (Kruszkowski) Wilson, 43, of Owosso, died July 31, 1998. She was self-employed in a cleaning business. A memorial service was held Aug. 3 at Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.

Gordon L. Rosekrans, 85,of Elsie, died Aug. 2, 1998. He was a retired truck driver for American Petroleum Co. Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
