Harold BurkHarold J. Burk, 83, of Lakeland, Fla., and formerly of St. Johns, died Oct. 7, 1998. He was born Aug. 10, 1915, in Gratiot County, the son of John and Myrtie (Wilson) Burk.He was a member of St. Johns Blue Lodge F&AM 105 serving as Past Patron, St. Johns Radiant Chapter Eastern Star #79, and Carpenter's Local #1449. Harold married Helena Bobier July 2, 1938, in Angola, Ind., and she survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia Burk of Frankenmuth, and Lois Perry of Ovid; three grandchildren, David Burk of Frankenmuth, Suzanne Shenkel of Stryker, Ohio, and Tammy Harmon of Ovid; and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Merlin (Betty) Burk of St. Johns; and one sister, Edna Darrow of Mason. He was preceded in death by one grandson, John Louis Perry; brothers, Erwin, R.G., and twin brother, Gerald Burk; one sister, Zelma Daggett; son-in-law, Lawrence Perry; sister-in-law, Olga Burk; and a dear aunt, Esther Burk.The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Oct. 12, at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with the Rev. Merlin Pratt officiating. Burial will be at Eureka Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, with a Mason Service at 7 Sunday. He was born Sept. 7, 1931 in Clinton County, the son of Lucas and Mary (Papiernik) Marton. He lived most of his life in Clinton County.Mr. Marton served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer. He was a member of Farm Bureau.He was married to Patricia Bashore Nov. 19, 1988, in Eureka, and she survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Susan (Dennis) Lindstrom of Lansing, and Julie Marton of Charlotte, N.C.; one son, John Marton Jr., of DeWitt; one step-daughter, Renee (Larry) Schomisch of St. Johns; three step-sons, Don (Diane) Bashore of Ovid, Carl (Kelly) Bashore of St. Johns, and Jerry Bashore of St. Johns; one granddaughter, Katyln, and eight step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Marton of Milwaukee, Wis., and Anna Mazey of Middleton. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen, Susie, and Marie; and three brothers, Luke, Joe, and Paul.The funeral service was held Oct. 6 at Smith Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel, with the Rev. Fr. Robert Lunsford officiating. Burial was at Eureka Cemetery.
