Clinton P. Siefert, 91, of St. Johns, died Dec. 16, 1998. He was born Nov. 11, 1907, in Bengal Township, the son of George and Barbara (Miller) Siefert. He lived most of his life in the St. Johns area.

Surviving are one sister, Ambra Bottum of DeWitt; one niece, Oral Tolles of St. Johns; and two nephews, E.J. Bottom of Higgins Lake, and Robert Siefert of Lansing.

There were no services. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Stephen Yurcso

Stephen Yurcso, 76, of St. Johns, died Dec. 16, 1998, after a seven-year battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 7, 1922, in St. Johns, the son of Paul and Katherine (Koobish) Yurcso. He lived most of his life in St. Johns.

Steve was a farmer. He retired as a skilled trades welder at General Motors Forge Plant in 1972, after 31-1/2 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 4113, Fowler Conservation Club, St. Peter Lutheran Church, was the captain of the Clinton County Sheriff Posse for 12 years, and was a Clinton County 4-H leader for 12 years.

Steve married Olive Hansen May 1, 1948, in St. Johns, and she survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Rosalee (Richard) Slevin, and Debra Fazakerley; one grandson, Andrew Fazakerley; two sisters, Sue (Harold) Doyle, and Amelia (Cyrus) Fairchild; one brother, Leo (Eleanor) Yurcso; one sister-in-law, Bernice Yurcso; and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 21, at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church. Arrangements were by the Osgood Funeral Home.

Elizabeth "Bette" Peace

Elizabeth "Bette" Peace, 77, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and formerly of St. Johns, passed away Dec. 11, 1998. She was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Stephen and Anna Michalek. She married Elmer Clark Peace in 1944. He preceded her in death in 1987. She was one of the first women to work for the Federal Postal Service in Cincinnati, Ohio.

She is survived by two daughters, Dianna Bornhoffer of Cincinnati, and Belinda Peace (Dwyer) of Covington, Kent.; two granddaughters, Kelsey and Dana Dwyer of Kentucky; two sisters, Ann (Joseph) Motz of St. Johns, and Mickey (James) Besko of Ovid; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Steve Michalek, of St. Johns.

The funeral service was held Dec. 16 at Neidhard-Mingis Funeral Home, Westwood, with burial at Bridgetown Cemetery, Ohio.

Steven Spicer

Steven J. Spicer, 53, of Fowler, died Dec. 17, 1998. He was born April 3, 1945, in Big Rapids, the son of John and Ellen (Eberhart) Spicer. He lived in Fowler most of his life.

Steve graduated from Fowler High School, and earned his bachelor of science degree in secondary education from Michigan State University. He was a retired math teacher, athletic director, and coach for Fowler Public Schools.

He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and his family was the Knights of Columbus Family of the Year in 1993. He coached at Fowler High School for 27 years, working as junior varsity basketball coach, varsity baseball coach, and most noteably as the varsity football coach for 25 years, amassing a 201-49-1 record.

Steve belonged to the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Association, Michigan High School Coaches Association, Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Board of Directors, Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, Fowler Athletic Boosters, Michigan Education Association, and National Education Association.

Steve accumulated many honors and awards over the years including MHSFCA Regional Coach of the Year for 14 years; MHSFCA Class D Coach of the Year in 1986, 1993, and 1995; Coach in the 1987 MHSFCA All-Star game; Detroit News Class D Coach of the Year in 1986; MSU Downtown Coaches Club Coach of the Year in 1986 and 1993; Lansing State Journal Area Coach of the Year, 1977, '79, '86, '93, and 1995; AP Class D Coach of the Year 1984 and 1995; Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce Honored Educator, 1987, '91, and 1993; MHSCA Football Coach of the Year 1997; inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame 1988; and Detroit Free Press Coach of the Year in 1995.

Steve married Rebecca Wieber July 9, 1966, in Fowler, and she survives him. Also surviving are one son, Michael Spicer, two daughters, Tammy (Randy) Bachert, and Tricia Spicer, and two grandchildren, Joshua and Lauren Bachert, all of Fowler; two brothers, Scott (Donna) Spicer of Fowler, and George (Nancy) Spicer of Kalamazoo; and one sister, Nancy (Gilbert) Spicer of Lansing.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 21, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. Burial will be at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, with the family present from 1 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. both days, at Most Holy Trinity Activity Center, Fowler. The rosary will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., both days.

Mary Stadick, 93, of Elsie, died Dec. 12, 1998. She was a homemaker. The funeral service was held Dec. 15 at the First Baptist Church, Elsie. Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Bessie Lennox

Bessie Mae (Johnson) Lennox, 96, of Corunna died Dec. 15, 1998. She was a cashier. Graveside services were held Dec. 19 at Pine Tree Cemetery, Corunna, Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
