Edna Bishop

Edna E. Bishop, 95, died Jan. 1, 1999. She was born Aug. 3, 1903, in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of Calvin and Cora (McKee) LaRue. She lived in the St. Johns area most of her life.Edna was a member of the Greenbush United Methodist Church. She was a former clerk with Glaspie's Drug Store.

She married Emerson R. Bishop March 14, 1925. He preceded her in death Sept. 4, 1970.

Surviving are one son, Robert (Twyla) Bishop of Columbus, Ind.; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Waldo and Victor LaRue, and three sisters, Faye Raider, Edith Core, and Arlene Hildreth.

The funeral service was held Jan. 6 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with the Rev. Joe Spackman officiating. Burial was at Eureka Cemetery.

Cathryn Frechen

Cathryn E. Frechen, 91, of Orleans died Jan. 5, 1999. She was born in Dallas Township, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Geller) George. She lived in the Long Lake area for 51 years, coming from Fowler. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Belding, and was the owner/operator of a bar in St. Johns and Fowler, and of Brookside Grocery in Long Lake in Ionia County.

She married Harold (Bud) Frechen July 28, 19 33. He preceded her in death July 13, 1971.

Surviving are one sister, Joan (Stanley) Smith of rural St. Johns; one brother, Joseph (Rita) George of rural Fowler; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Slowinski, and two brothers, Roy and Leo George.

The funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 9 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. Burial was at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler.

Clara Petersen

Clara E. Petersen, 71, of St. Johns, died Jan. 1, 1999. She was born Sept. 1, 1927 in Isabella County, the daughter of Floyd and Hazel (Lee) Oberlin. She has lived in St. Johns since 1952.

Clara attended the First Congregational Church, was a member of Linda Scott, the Congregators, the St. Johns Garden Club, and was a retired food service employee for St. Johns Public Schools.

Her marriage to Norman C. Petersen July 26, 1951 in Greenville ended with his death Dec. 13, 1987.

Surviving are four daughters, Jean (Larry) Stanisz of Laingsburg, Diane (Larry) Heathman of Bessemer, Kristy (Ed) Harr of Cedar Springs, Patricia (Martis) (Michael) Wojtaszek of DeWitt; one son, Wayne (Anna) Petersen of St. Johns; nine grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Jan. 4 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with the Rev. Matt Olson officiating. Memorials may be made to Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor.
