Irene Paine

Irene M. (Henning) Paine, 74, of Laingsburg, died Feb. 1, 1999. She was born April 26, 1924, in Elsie, the daughter of Edward and Margaret Light.

She graduated from St. Johns High School, and did her nurses training at St. Lawrence Hospital. She was a Registered Nurse, and also worked for Perry Public Schools.

She was a member of Senior Citizens of Morrice.

Surviving are her sons, Raymond P. (Martha) Henning of Greenville, and Jim (Pam) Henning of Perry; a sister, Helen Juellette of East Tawas; brothers, Gary Light of Indiana, and Eddie Light of St. Johns; her mother, Margaret Light of St. Johns; and grandchildren, Heidi and Julie, Troy and T.J. Henning. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond P. Henning; her father; and one brother, James Light.

The funeral service was held Feb. 4 at Nelson-House Funeral Homes, LaRowe Chapel, Perry, with Pastor Herb Smith officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery.

Julie Grubaugh

Julie A. Grubaugh, 45, of Maple Rapids, died Feb. 3, 1999. She was born Feb. 27, 1953 in St. Johns, the daughter of Jack and Carol (Winsor) Kidder.

Julie married Stanley "Wally" Grubaugh, Sr., Aug. 17, 1968, and he survives her.

Also surviving are three sons, Chad (Bev) Grubaugh of Maple Rapids, Stanley (friend, Linda Saylor) Grubaugh Jr., of Perrinton, and Jason (friend, Andrea Duflo) Grubaugh of Maple Rapids;Four grandchildren, Kelly, Casey, Jessie, and Luke; her parents, Jack and Carol Kidder of Harrison; brother, Kim (Laurie) Kidder of Maple Rapids; sister, Gloria (Kurt) Woodbury of St. Johns.

The funeral service was held Feb. 6 at Maple Rapids United Methodist Church with Pastor Charlie Farnum officiating. Burial was at Lowe Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Maple Rapids. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Clinton County.

Arthur Cornell

Arthur J. Cornell, 81, of St. Johns, died Feb. 4, 1999. He was born Sept. 19, 1917 in St. Johns, the son of Ross and Anna (Voorhees) Cornell.

He was a retired plumber, and a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 333. He was a member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge F&AM #105. Arthur married Beatrice Smith June 25, 1949, in Howell, and she survives him. Also surviving are four daughters, Barbara (Larry) Barrett, and Linda Anderson, both of Lansing, Beverly (Charles) Hyler and Patsy Cornell, both of St. Johns; two sons, Ross (Mary Ann) Cornell of Perry and Charles (Sandra) Cornell of Shepardsville; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Bernath of Elsie and Betty Woodhams of St. Johns; and one brother, Ross Cornell Jr., of Roscommon. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Bates and Alberta Blessinger; and two brothers, Jack Cornell and Leonard Cornell.

There were no services. Memorials may be made to the Laurels of Fulton Nursing Home Activities Dept. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home.

Helen Cox

Helen G. Cox, 83, died Feb. 5, 1999. She was born Dec. 18, 1915 in Detroit. She lived in Clinton County most of her life.

She married Elmer T. Cox June 15, 1951. He preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1994.

Helen enjoyed playing bingo.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia (Victor) Barber of Ashley; four granddaughters, Alessia Barber of Ashley, Yvonne Wyscaver of California, Leah Baran and Dawn (Steve) Schneider of St. Johns; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Yucker of Detroit, and Jeanne Vielhabor of Grayling. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

The funeral service was held Feb. 7 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with the Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Robideau officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery.

Gale Stevens

Gale Roger Stevens, 59, of Elsie, died Feb. 3, 1999. The funeral service was held Feb. 6 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie, with the Rev. Robert Pego officiating. Burial was at Ford Cemetery.

William McEwen

William B. McEwen, 68, of Corunna, died Jan. 29, 1999. He was born Oct. 15, 1930 in Venice Twp., Shiawassee County, the son of William A. and Hattie (Bruder) McEwen. He lived most of his life in the Corunna area. He was a member of Lennon Wesleyan Church, Lennon. He was a farmer.

Surviving are two daughters, Renea (Richard) Slovak of Corunna, and Ruth (Edward) Mowinski of Corunna; two sons, Ralph McEwen of Corunna, and Randy (Mary) McEwen of Corunna; seven grandchildren, Hattie, Rich, Brent, Bryce, Megan, Myla, and Mariah; three sisters, Myrna (Wyman) Wagar of Florida, Tracie (Charles) Judd of Fairview, and Azile (Henry) Grombir of Owosso; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Alfred McEwen.

The funeral service was held Feb. 1 at Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel, with the Rev. Nyle Ruppert officiating. Burial was at Yerian Cemetery, Shiawassee County.

Violet Bair

Violet Mary Bair, 76, of Ovid and formerly of Grand Blanc, died Jan. 30, 1999. The funeral service was held Feb. 2 at Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.

Ardis Horwath

Ardis J. Horwath, 63, of Corunna, died Jan. 29, 1999. There was no visitation. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
