Connie HankinsConnie L. Hankins, 60, died Feb. 11, 1999. She was born Aug. 29, 1938 in St. Johns, the daughter of Adam and Ida (Bradley) Bailey, Sr. She lived in St. Johns all of her life.She worked as a cashier for Fairway Discount for many years. She married Charles Hankins Nov. 2, 1957, and he survives her.Also surviving are one daughter, Jeanette (Steve) Cheney; one son, Craig (Brenda) Hankins; five grandchildren, Charles John Snyder, Jennifer Lee Snyder, Tory Lynn Synder, Brian Howard-Cruise Cheney, and Amy Irene Cheney, all of St. Johns; and one brother, Adam (Shirley) Bailey, Jr., of Harrison. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Menlo Bailey; and one sister, Donna Hines.Her request was to have no visitation or funeral services. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home.Howard ApplebeeHoward J. Applebee, 84, of rural Owosso and formerly of Ovid, died Feb. 11, 1999. He was a self-employed milk-hauler and worked as a clerk for the State of Michigan Commerce Dept., retiring in 1980. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Feb. 15, at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Ovid, with Lay Minister Kathy Murphy officiating. Burial was at Fairfield Cemetery. She was Vice President of Ren Plastics for 25 years in Lansing, and was the first woman to serve on the Board of Water & Light. She served on many Lansing boards including the Lansing Parks and Recreation, and was a member of the Zonta Club which is an International Professional Womens Club. Private family services were held. Burial was at Payne Cemetery, Middleton.Geraldine GrubaughGeraldine E. Grubaugh, 84, of St. Johns, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away Feb. 9, 1999 while vacationing in Aruba. She was born Oct. 28, 1914 in Lansing, the daughter of Walter and Pearl Kieffer.She married Glenn B. Grubaugh Dec. 28, 1934. He preceded her in death Oct. 15, 1992.She retired from Carson City Hospital after many enjoyable years of service. Geraldine was a member of the Congregational Christian Church and Women's Fellowship in Maple Rapids.Surviving are her children, Keith Grubaugh of St. Johns, Richard (friend, Dee) Grubaugh of St. Johns, Janet (Allan) Armbrustmacher of Fowler, Jean (Bruce) Grubaugh of St. Johns, Glenn Jr. (Sally) Grubaugh of St. Johns, Myron (Audrey) Grubaugh of St. Johns, Stanley Grubaugh and his late wife, Julie, of St. Johns, Kenneth (Tina) Grubaugh of St. Johns, Catherine (Alan) Childers of St. Johns, Ronald (Kathleen) Grubaugh of St. Johns; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and brother.The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Feb. 14, at Maple Rapids Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Mercer officiating.
