Francis Motz

Francis H. Motz, 72, of St. Johns, passed away Feb. 22, 1999, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 5, 1926 in St. Johns, the son of Anthony and Christian (Mueller) Motz.

Francis was a farmer all of his life. He served on the Greenbush Township Board of 30 years, 17 years as treasurer. He was past president of the Clinton County Farm Bureau.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, St. Johns Council #3281, and was a founding member of St. Joseph Education Trust Fund Commission. He was a member of the Clinton Memorial Hospital Board, and was an active participant of the Clinton County Relay for Life Cancer Walk.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, bird watching, wildflowers, winters in Arizona, and his family and many friends.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Harriet (Smith) Motz; one daughter, Marcia (Victor) Holcomb; seven sons, Peter (Roberta), Dave (Jan), Jeff (Robin), Tim (Cheryl), all of St. Johns, Tom (Melinda), Fred (Chris), both of DeWitt, and Jim (Amy) of Mt. Pleasant; 18 grandchildren; three sisters, Beatrice Jorae, Hilda Hufnagel, and Marion Sohn; three brothers Ron (Georgia), Art (Rita), all of St. Johns, and Jack (Barbara) of Carthage, Mo.; in-laws, Alma Smith, Clarence Smith, and Marian Hafner of Pewamo, Germaine (Dick) Craft of New Haven, Ind.; Sister Hildegarde Smith of Cimarron, N.M.; Paul (Greta) Smith of Dumfries, Virg., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Herman.

The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Robert Lunsford officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Clinton Memorial Hospital, or the St. Joseph Educational Trust Fund.

Gladys Bullard

Gladys E. Bullard, 95, of St. Johns, died Feb. 19, 1999. She was born Dec. 8, 1903, in Clinton County, the daughter of Lewis and Belva Brown. She lived in Clinton County all of her life.

She was a retired teacher, a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church, O.E.S. #79, Retired Teachers Association, and was a past member of the Olive Grange.

Gladys married Raymond A. Bullard June 11, 1932 in Ohio. He preceded her in death Sept. 25, 1986.

Surviving are her son, Thomas (Gail) Bullard of Mecosta; two granddaughters, Jennifer Bullard of Grand Rapids, and Jacquelyn (Robert) Andretz of Lansing; a sister, Neva Bullard of St. Johns; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Glenna Plunkett.

The funeral service was held Feb. 22 at Pilgrim United Methodist Church with the Rev. Raymond Sundell and the Rev. Brian Sheen officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Pilgrim United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Evelyn Walker

Evelyn Walker, 70, of Port Huron, died Feb. 21, 1999. She was born Oct. 10, 1928, in Port Huron, the daughter of Felix and the late E. Carol Heering.

She married Donald J. Walker Sept. 4, 1948 in Port Huron, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary at First United Methodist Church last year.

After their marriage, the Walkers lived in Greenville for three years, St. Johns for 16 years, and Shepherd for 27 years before moving back to Port Huron in 1991.

Mrs. Walker was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Co. in Port Hurun, GTE in Greenville, and worked for 30 years with Sealed Power Corp., in St. Johns.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Martha Circle. As a young woman, she earned the highest award given by the Girl Scouts and later became a Girl Scout leader. She loved movies, soap operas, cats, doll collecting, bowling, and swimming. She was an avid stamp collector and was a member of the Port Huron/Sarnia Stamp Club, and was a former member and past secretary of the Mt. Pleasant Stamp Club.

Surviving are her loving husband of 50 years, Donald; her father, Felix Heering of Port Huron; a brother, Martin (Dorothy) Heering of Waverly, Iowa; and 15 nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Feb. 23 at Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron with the Rev. Ralph H. Pieper II officiating. Burial was at Kinney Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Betty Zwolensky

Betty Zwolensky, 77, of Corunna, died Feb. 18, 1999. She was a secretary. Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 22 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Owosso. Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.

Loretta Farmer

Loretta B. Farmer, 84, of St. Johns, and formerly of Bellaire and St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Feb. 20, 1999. She was a homemaker. The funeral service was held Feb. 24 at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, Ohio. Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.

Edward Kremer

Edward Kremer, 88, of Elsie, died Feb. 20, 1999. He worked for Michigan Milk Producers Association, Ovid. The funeral service was held Feb. 24 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Jean Faull

Jean A. Faull, 69, of Lansing, died Feb. 22, 1999. She was born June 30, 1929 in Lansing, the daughter of Anthony and Elaine (Chapin) Artutis. She lived all her life in the Lansing area, wintering in Bayonet Point, Fla.

Jean was a graduate of East Lansing High School. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fowler, the Lioness Club, and was a civic volunteer.

Surviving are three sons, Andrew (Melissa) Faull of Grand Ledge, Weldon "Don" (Julie) Faull of Green Bay, Wis., and Michael Faull of Holland; one daughter, Susan (Thomas) Barlow of Iron Mountain; and four grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Feb. 25 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. Arrangements were made by the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Lutheran Braille Workers.
