Linus PohlLinus J. Pohl, 83, of Fowler, died March 9, 1999. He was born Dec. 5, 1915 in Portland, the son of William and Josephine (Knoop) Pohl. He had lived in Fowler since 1952, coming from Portland.Linus was a farmer. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, and a former school board member for 12 years.Linus married Irene Thelen May 27, 1941. She preceded him in death April 16, 1983. He married Bernita Hufnagel Aug. 23, 1986, and she survives him.Also surviving are two sons, David (Joyce) Pohl, and John (Annette) Pohl all of Fowler; four daughters, Elaine (Clare) Schaefer of Fowler, Mary Katherine (Donald) Werner of Pewamo, Janice (Gary) Ferguson of Ionia, and Joanne (Richard) Keilen of Portage; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Anna Thelen, Agnes (Alfred) Schneider, Janet (Marvin) Fedewa, Mary (Joseph) Simon, and Marian Brown; a brother-in-law, Gregory Thelen; special friend, Edgardo Laborde; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Bernita's family, Leon, Teresa, Gladys, Germaine, Janice, Elaine, Carol, and their families. In addition to his first wife, Irene, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Clare L. Schaefer, and his sister, Florence Thelen. The funeral mass was celebrated March 12 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. Burial was at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler.Lyle DunhamLyle Vern Dunham, 87, of Elsie, died March 8, 1999. He was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Fairfield Township, the son of Will and Perlie (Austin) Dunham. He lived most of his life in the Elsie area.He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1931. He was a farmer and a mechanic his entire life, and also worked for Chesaning Public Schools. He was a member of the Elsie United Methodist Church, and the Elsie United Methodist Men.He loved music and making people laugh. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Townsend Club, and Michigan Holiness Association, Eaton Rapids.He was married to Ruby McCullogh Aug. 5, 1945, in the Rochester Colony. Surviving are one daughter, Sharon Olson of Hastings; one son, David (Deb) Dunham of Elsie; seven grandchildren, Carl (Kelli) Olson of Hastings, Bethaney Olson of Hastings, Joshua, Nicholas, and Trent Dunham, all of Elsie, Mark (Missy) McCullough of Davenport, Iowa, and Melinda McCullough of East Lansing; three great-grandchildren, Raelae Olson of Hastings; Jake and Macy McCullough of Davenport; one sister-in-law, Nida Dunham of Elsie; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Bion, Merle, Dale, and Earl.The funeral service was held March 12 at Elsie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Merlin Pratt and the Rev. Fred Fischer officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie. Arrangements were made by the Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Hrncharik, 71, of Elsie, died March 4, 1999. She was born Feb. 6, 1928, in St. Johns, the daughter of John and Anna (Ochodnicky) Karlik. She lived most of her life in the St. Johns and Elsie areas.She graduated from Elsie High School in 1946. She was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister where she was a member of the Altar Society. She was secretary and treasurer of the First National Slovak Society. She was a homemaker.Mildred married John Hrncharik Nov. 19, 1949, at St. Cyril's, and he survives her. Also surviving are four daughters, Janet (Bill) Archer of Laingsburg, Paulette (John) Anderson of Elsie, Lynette (Jon) Miller of Elsie, and Pamela (Kirk) Wahlstrom of Owosso; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a first great-grandson to be born in September; one sister, Suzanne (Ernest) Straughen of Owosso; one brother, John (Kathryn) Karlik of St. Johns. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Anna.The Mass of Christian Burial was held March 9 at St. Cyril's Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. R.K. LeFleur officiating. Burial was at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County. Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Memorials may be made to WOES Radio at Ovid-Elsie High School in support of the Polka Program.Jack KelleyJack L. Kelley, 69, of rural St. Johns and formerly of Ovid, died March 8, 1999. He was a farmer and worked at Michigan Milk Producers Association, retiring in 1989. The funeral service was held March 10 at United Church of Ovid with the Rev. Robert Pumfrey officiating. Burial was at Fairfield Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Ovid.
