Beatrice Parker

Beatrice Parker, 89, died March 24, 1999. She was born Nov. 8, 1909, in Mason, the daughter of Beecher and Edith (Havens) Scripter.

She married Sheldon R. Parker Aug. 31, 1928. Except for a short stay in St. Ignace, they raised their family in rural St. Johns. Upon their retirement in 1969, they lived year-round on Beaver Island for 26 years. They were adventurous and enjoyed sharing the Island with family and friends. Bea loved nature and the outdoors, and was an accomplished hunter and fisherwoman. She shared those passionns with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also loved gardening, traveling, reading, and was a tremendous cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon R., in 1995; one son, Devere in 1986; one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Marie Parker, in 1998; and three brothers, Ralph, Paul, and Max Scripter.

Surviving are one son, Sheldon B. (Janice) Parker of St. Johns; one daughter, Lois (Harold) Bracey of Ovid; two sisters, Janet Wilson of Leslie, and Phyllis Lucius of New Lothrop; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held March 27 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with the Rev. Joe Spackman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenbush United Methodist Church.

Lt. Donald Johnson

Lt. Donald Dee Johnson (U.S.N. Ret.), 64, died Feb. 18, 1999. He was the son of Orville and Margaret (Saurbek) Johnson. He was a long-time resident of Atlantic Beach, Fla. He grew up in Maple Rapids and Perrinton.

Lt. Johnson retired after 23 years of service in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of VFW Jacksonville Beach, American Legion Post #316, Fleet Reserve Association, and the Retired Officers Association.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon K. Johnson; two daughters, Candace L. Phelps and Sandra K. Pawlowicz; two sons, Donald Dee Johnson Jr., and Edward Lee Johnson; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, M. Elizabeth Roberts and Arlene I.M. Emmons. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Eyer and Larraine Plowman; and his step-father, Floyd Haynes.

Graveside services with full military rites were held Feb. 24 at Beache Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville Beach, Fla.

Neil Blizzard

Neil W. Blizzard, 91, of St. Johns, died March 23, 1999. He was born March 8, 1908, in Olive Township, the son of Byron and Ella (Reed) Blizzard. He lived most of his life in St. Johns.

Neil was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Congregators, and was a past Trustee.

He retired in 1970 from Oldsmobile as a supervisor of transportation after 42 years of service. He was a member of the G.M. Lansing Salaried Retirees Club, Oldsmobile Quarter Century Club, Oldsmobile Outdoor Club, F&AM 105, and the Blue Lodge.

Neil married Marjorie Peck Sept. 22, 1935, in St. Johns, and she survives him. Also surviving are one daughter, Marilyn (Douglas) Wakefield of Okemos; one son, Douglas (Jackie) Blizzard of Midland; a brother, Delbert (Dawn) Blizzard of Florida; a sister, Marguerite (Don) Strayer of Lansing; sister-in-law, Charline Blizzard of St. Johns; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leon and Kenneth Blizzard; step-brother, Charles Krathwohl; and step-sister, Marie Hockey.

The funeral service was held March 26 at the First Congregational Church in St. Johns with the Rev. Matt Olson and the Rev. Wendy Sue Earle officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, Clinton Memorial Hospital, or Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor.

Nancy Hyde

Nancy Lee Hyde, 60, of Elsie, died March 21, 1999. She was born March 12, 1939, in St. Johns, the daughter of Henry J. and Edna (Marvin) Naegele. She lived most of her life in the Elsie area.

She graduated from Elsie High School with the Class of 1957. She was a member of the OES #69, Elsie, and served in the U.S. Air Force. She was a member of the Bannister United Methodist Church, Bannister. She was a homemaker.

She married Robert Hyde June 13, 1959, in Bannister, and he survives her. Also surviving are two daughters, Eddie-Jo (Doug) Wilson of Elsie, and Bobbie-Jo Hyde of Florida; two sons, David (Nancy) Hyde of Florida, and John Paul Hyde of Florida; four grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley, Sarah, and Jacob.

Private funeral services were held March 24 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel, with the Rev. Merlin Pratt officiating. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home, Alma.

Edward Gorman

Edward C. Gorman, 58, of St. Johns, died March 23, 1999. He was a retired barber. The funeral service was held March 25 at the Osgood Funeral Homes, St. Johns.

Anna Graham

Anna Graham, 85, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and formerly of Corunna, died March 22, 1999. Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel, will announce memorial services in the spring.
