Ronald R. Rings, 67, of Bannister, died April 17, 1999. He was born June 14, 1931, in Maple Rapids, the son of Charlie L. and Alice J. (Wright) Rings. He lived most of his life in the Ashley, St. Johns, and Bannister areas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the St. Johns VFW Post #4113. He was a member of Duplain Church of Christ. Mr. Rings retired from Saylor-Beall Manufacturing Co., in 1993, after 25 years of service. He was married to Malena Ketchum May 9, 1992, in Rochester Colony, and she survives him. Also surviving are three daughters, Susan (Gary) Molden of St. Johns, Veanne (Larry) Kleinhardt of Clare, Pam Ritter of St. Johns; three sons, Jeff (Tammy) Rings of Carson City, Lonnie Rings and Bill Rings, both of St. Johns; three step-daughters, Nancy Kingery of Central Lake, Madia (Forrest) Jones of Ovid, and Debbie Carpenter of Bannister; two step-sons, Norman R. Ketchum of Goddard, Kan., and Danny (Michelle) Ketchum of Central Lake; 24 grandchildren, 24 step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 46 step-great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and two step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Cerny of Elsie. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two grandchildren. The funeral service was held April 21 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel, with Pastor Steve Ruger officiating. Burial was at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County. Memorials may be made to Duplain Church of Christ. May R. Ricks, 84, of Bath, died April 13, 1999. She was a retired bookkeeper for Bath Public Schools. A graveside service was held April 21 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bath, with the Rev. Rick Pardee officiating. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Marie M. Podolak, 83, of St. Johns, died April 17, 1999. She was a former care-giver, and was a member of Maple Rapids Congregational Church. The funeral service was held April 21 at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids, with the Rev. Robert Ditmer officiating. Burial was at Payne Cemetery. Joseph C. O'Connell, 81, of St. Johns, passed away April 17, 1999, at his home. He was born March 8, 1918, in Hubbardston, the son of Daniel and Emma M. (Rocky) O'Connell. He married Mae A. Snyder June 10, 1944. They remained married until her death Aug. 1, 1978. He was a lifetime employee of General Motors, retiring in 1982 after 35 years of service. Surviving are his three daughters and four sons, Diana Schoemann of Florida, Terry (Sally) O'Connell of Perry, Bryan (Chris) O'Connell of Ithaca, Loretta (Bob) Bowling of Florida, Eric (Marlyn) O'Connell of St. Johns, Neal (April) O'Connell of Middleton, and Lisa (Marty) Lorkin of St. Johns; his brother, Tom O'Connell; his sister, Rosie Rademacher; 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special daughter-in-law, Barb O'Connell. He will be sadly missed by his special friend and companion, Margie Marfin. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. The funeral Mass was celebrated April 21 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Robideau officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home. Eleanor Sillman Baxter, 79, of Middleton/Fowler, died April 22, 1999. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fowler and the Ladies Aide. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., April 25, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. Burial will be at Beach Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Fowler. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
