Chester V. Walton, 81, died April 23, 1999. He was born July 6, 1917 in Lansing, the son of Claude and Lina (Karber) Walton. Chester was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a farmer, and he worked for St. Johns Public Schools for 23 years. He married Maxine Doyle June 10, 1941, and she survives him. Also surviving are one son, Dale (Joann) Walton of St. Johns; two daughters, Bette (Jim) Potts of Conklin, and Jean Walton of Haslett; and seven grandchildren. The funeral Mass was celebrated April 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Jeff Robideau officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Esther I. Bachman, 80, of Roanoke, Ind., and formerly of St. Johns, died April 24, 1999. The funeral service was held April 28 at Bethel Mennonite Church, Ashley, with the Rev. James E. Bachman, Jr., officiating. Burial was at Collier Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Roanoke Memorial Chapel, Roanoke, Ind. Elaine Sturgis, 69, of Tucson, Ariz., and Elsie, died April 20, 1999. She was a homemaker. The funeral service was held April 26 at the Elsie United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Homes. Mildred Bradley, 70, of Ashley, died April 27, 1999. She was a former board member of the Maple Valley Nursing Home in Ashley. The funeral service was held May 1 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Isabelle A. Pearson, 82, of DeWitt, died April 22, 1999. The funeral service was held April 27, at the Gorsline-Runciman Co., DeWitt Chapel. Jewel Mary Herald, 82, of DeWitt, died April 21, 1999. The funeral Mass was celebrated April 26 at the Catholic Community of St. Jude. Arrangements were made by the Gorsline-Runciman Co., DeWitt Chapel. Florence L. Koglin, 68, of Bath, died April 22, 1999. The funeral service was held April 26 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co., DeWitt Chapel. Barbara E. Sale, 77, of DeWitt, died April 20, 1999. The funeral service was held April 24 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co., DeWitt Chapel. Barbara I. Vaniman, 75, of Ovid, died April 24, 1999. She graduated from Ovid High School in 1949. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., May 5, at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid, with the Rev. Kay Pratt officiating. Memorials may be made to the Ovid Public Library. Howard W. Gentry, 68, of St. Johns, died April 28, 1999. He was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Dewey and Lola (Howard) Gentry. He lived in St. Johns since 1968. He retired in 1996 as Director of Prison Industries for the State of Michigan. He was a veteran, a member of the American Legion Post #153, and a member of the First Congregational Church. Howard married Margaret JoAnne Frakes Sept. 6, 1952, in Wayne, and she survives him. Also surviving are four children, Jeff Gentry of Lansing, Nancy (Paul) Broughton of Sidney, Ohio, Jamie (Julie) Gentry of Grosse Pointe, and Jeni (Kenny) Howard of Potterville; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Lola Gentry of Jackson; one brother, William (Vivian) Gentry of Metarie, La.; and one sister, Sue (Harold) May of Jackson. He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Chris Gentry. The funeral service was held May 1 at the First Congregational Church with the Rev. Wendy Sue Earle officiating. Burial was at Mt.
