Della Thompson

Della J. Thompson, 94, of St. Johns, died May 7, 1999. She was born Nov. 27, 1904, in Vaughnsville, Ohio, the daughter of J.B. and Jennie (Davis) Gander.

She was a graduate of Owosso Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1925. She was a registered nurse.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary 4113, Past Ninth District President, Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge #139, WWI Auxiliary of Tucson #218. She married Robert Thompson Oct. 4, 1925 in Elsie, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Anna Mae (Heinz) Weidenbruch of Lansing, and Marylin L. Borth of Tucson; one son, Harry J. (Helen) Thompson of Waterford; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Saylor.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., May 11, at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with Terry Nixon officiating. Burial will take place at Tucson Memorial Park, Tucson, Ariz. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., May 10, at the Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hazel Findlay Country Manor

Max Hartenburg

Max Hartenburg, 80, of Manistique and formerly of St. Johns, died May 6, 1999. He was born July 14, 1918, in Wheeler, the son of Carl and Blanche (Wing) Hartenburg. He lived the past 23 years in Manistique, coming from St. Johns.

Max was a retired farmer, and was retired from Sealed Power after 30 years in machine repair. He was a volunteer fireman for the Ironwood Township Fire Dept. He enjoyed woodworking and playing horseshoes. Max married Enid Whetstone Sept. 21, 1940, in Crystal, and she survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Ronnie (Gwen) Hartenburg of St. Johns, and Donald (Claudia) Hartenburg of Grand Rapids; one daughter, Linda (Glover) and Jim Foltz of Manistique; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Willie (Helen) Hartenburg of Rapid River. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Etta May; and three brothers, Lloyd, Cecil, and Donald.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., May 11, at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with Pastor James Hartenburg officiating. Burial will be at Eureka Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., May 10, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice.

Helen Dubay

Helen C. Dubay, loving mother and grandmother, passed away May 5, 1999, at the age of 75. She was born Feb. 19, 1924 in Clinton County, the daughter of Ray and Bertha (Silvernail) Gilson. She lived in the St. Johns area all of her life.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Ladies Altar Society.

Helen married Edward Dubay Nov. 30, 1946. He preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1988.

Surviving are two sons, David Dubay of Lansing, and Douglas Dubay (P.J. Becker) of New Jersey; two daughters, Sharon (Don) Michael of Lansing, and Linda Wilkie of Haslett; and two grandchildren, Ashly and Nathan Wilkie.

The funeral Mass was celebrated May 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Robert Lunsford officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Homes, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, 2350 S. Huron Parkway, Ann Arbor, Mich., 48104.

Marjorie Conrad

Marjorie M. Conrad, 96, of Bowie, Md., and formerly of Grand Rapids, died May 1, 1999. The funeral service was held May 6 at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids, with the Rev. Tom Mercer officiating. Burial was at Sowle Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Fulton High School Scholarship Fund.

Elmer J. Warner, 80, of DeWitt, died April 30, 1999. The funeral service was held May 4 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co., DeWitt Chapel.

Iwin Ernest Reed, 80, of Ovid, died May 1, 1999. He was a farmer. The funeral service was held May 5 at Smith Funeal Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Tony Micka

Tony J. Micka, 87, of Elsie, died April 30, 1999. He was a retired farmer. The Mass of Christian Burial was held May 4 at Holy Family Church, Ovid, with the Rev. Fr. Robert Lunsford officiating. Burial was at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County. Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Gale Ely

Gale J. Ely, 60, of St. Johns died May 1, 1999. He lived in the St. Johns area since 1965. He was a purchasing agent for Alma Products Co., and was a graduate of Hesston College and Bethel College. The funeral service was held May 4 at the First Baptist Church, St. Johns, with the Rev. Tim Knaus and the Rev. Bob McKelvey officiating. Memorials may be made to Family Life Radio or the Billy Graham Association. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home.
