Margaret Light, 91, of St. Johns, died May 22, 1999. She was born Dec. 19, 1907, in Lorain, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Pecki) Kuripla. She lived in St. Johns most of her life. She was a cook at Clinton Memorial Hospital, and a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Eastern Star #79, and enjoyed playing bridge and canasta. Margaret married Ed C. Light July 5, 1930, in Bowling Green, Ohio. He preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1963. Surviving are a daughter, Helen (Dean) Ouellette of East Tawas; two sons, Gary (Janet) Light of Carmel, Ind., and Eddie Light of St. Johns; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Joseph Kuripla of Houghton Lake; two sisters, Virginia (Ed) McClure of St. Johns, and Pauline Hebeler of Ovid; sister-in-law, Donna Kuripla of St. Johns; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, James; one daughter, Irene Paine; granddaughter, Margaret Lee Light; two brothers, Charles and Robert Kuripla; and three sisters, Elizabeth Blank, June Hayes, and Dorothy Watt. The funeral service was held May 25 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. An Eastern Star service was held May 24 at Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, or Hospice for Clinton County. Helen L. (Motz) Tolles, 80, died March 6, 1999, in Tucson, Ariz. She was born Dec. 24, 1918, in Bengal Township, the daughter of Christine (Kramer) and John Motz. She was a very devoted wife of 58 years, and mother. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Patogonia, Ariz., and was a member of many local clubs, charities, and organizations. She lived in the St. Johns area until 1958. She married Harold F. Tolles July 5, 1940, at Resurrection Church, Lansing. Surviving are her husband, Harold; a daughter, Andrea (Steven) Paulk of Tibernash, Colo.; son, Ronley (Bev) Tolles of Spring Valley, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; brother, Edward (Genevieve) Motz of St. Johns; five nieces, two nephews, and many cousins and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lawrence Motz in 1984; and a son, Kerry Tolles in 1992. The funeral Mass was held March 10, at her home parish. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., June 5, at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, with the Rev. Fr. Robert Lunsford officiating. She was deeply loved and will be missed by all her family and friends. Clare R. Alderman, 83, of Shepardsville, died May 20, 1999. In 1909, Clare's father opened Alderman's grocery store, with Clare joining him in 1946. Clare operated the rural grocery delivery service for many years. He was a 1935 graduate of Ovid High School, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1941-45. The funeral service was held May 24 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, with the Rev. Larry Howland officiating. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid. Memorials may be made to the Shepardsville United Methodist Church, or the Ovid Area Ambulance Service. Frieda P. Dumond, 88, of Elsie, died May 23, 1999. She worked at the former Yankee Store and Owosso Livestock Sales Restaurant in Owosso. The funeral service was held May 26 at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Josephine A. Schaub, 79, of Middleton, died May 25, 1999. She was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of William and Agnes (Drewek) Raducha. She married Harry L. Schaub Aug. 5, 1939, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alma. Jo was a cook at Fulton Schools for 25 years. She was a board member of Mid-Michigan Handicap Association, Mark Daniels VFW Post #1735 Auxiliary, and St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church, Perrinton. Surviving are her daughter, Agnes (Frank) Jason of Middleton; two sons, Harry (Earlene) Schaub of DeWitt, and William of Middleton; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry in 1962; daughter, Diane; brothers, Peter, John, Joseph, and Francis; sisters, Julie White and Mary Fisher. The funeral service was held May 28 at St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church with Fr. Dave Parsch offic iating. Arrangements were made by the Dodge Funeral Home, Middleton. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and was a volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital. The funeral Mass was celebrated May 28 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Jeff Robideau officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. |
