Arnold Armbrustmacher Arnold A. "Curly" Armbrustmacher, 82, of Fowler, passed away Aug. 5, 1999. He was a lifetime resident of Fowler. He was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Dallas Township. Arnold "Curly" retired from Fisher Body, Material Control, in 1978 after 42 years of service. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, the Holy Name Society, and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Fowler Eagles fan, and was a member of the Fowler Athletic Boosters. He married May Rose Simon of Westphalia in 1938, and she survives him. Also surviving are one son, Allan (Janet) Armbrustmacher; a foster son, Chuck (Beth) Heyer of St. Johns; grandsons, Eric Armbrustmacher of Lansing, Greg (Carmen), Scott, and Michael (Jennifer) Armbrustmacher, all of Fowler, Doug (Krista) Heyer of DeWitt, Bob (Kim) Tirva of Huntington Woods, Calif., and Brent Heyer of St. Johns; great-grandchildren, Raysha, Troy, and Travis Armbrustmacher, and Ashley Heyer; one sister, Regina Frechen of St. Johns; and two sisters-in-law, Marian Armbrustmacher of Owosso and Marian Armbrustmacher of St. Johns. He was preceded in death by his son, Denis, who died in an automobile accident. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Aug. 9, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. Burial will be at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Aug. 7 and 8, at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Fowler. Rosary will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Memorials may be made to Most Holy Trinity Education Trust Fund.
Dorothy E. Schneider, 83, of Pewamo died July 16, 1999. She was born March 15, 1916, the daughter of Michael and Eva (Readinger) Wolscheid. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo, the Ladies Altar Society, and Blue Star Mothers. The funeral Mass was celebrated July 19 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo, with Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason officiating. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Clare H. Simmon, 78, of Fowler, died Aug. 1, 1999. He was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Dallas Township, the son of William and Aurelia (Martin) Simmon. He lived all of his life on the Simmon homestead. Clare retired from Farm Bureau in 1983 after 27 years of service. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Fowler Conservation Club. Clare married Kathleen Thelen June 6, 1945, in Fowler, and she survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Sue (Chuck) Welch of St. Johns, and Jan McDonald of Pennsylvania; two sons, Sam (Janice) Simmon of Fowler, and Chris (Mary) Simmon of Maine; six grandchildren, Cheryl (Eric) Slamka of St. Johns, Bryan (Misty) Geller of Maple Rapids; Travis and Lindsay Simmon of Fowler, and Jessie and Rick Simmon, both of Maine; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn Slamka and Carter Slamka; one sister, Sr. Agnes Simmon of Racine, Wis.; one brother, Charles (Ireta) Simmon of Carson City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Ed and Jerome Simmon. The funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 5 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. Burial was at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Fowler. Eleanor M. Paseka, 74, of St. Johns, died July 31, 1999. She was the daughter of Archie and Florence (Corda) Bates. She lived in St. Johns most of her life. Eleanor was a retired bus driver for St. Johns Public Schools. She was a member of Owosso Eagles Lodge, DeWitt Moose Lodge, the Laingsburg American Legion Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary in St. Johns. She married Gus Paseka July 27, 1946, in Houghton Lake. He preceded her in death July 29, 1986. Her family includes two daughters, Vicki Tomlinson of St. Johns, and Rebecca (Keith) Love of Ovid; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Dorothy Paseka of Lansing, Mrs. Maurice Ordway of Laingsburg, and Genevieve (Eugene) Earl of Oakley. The funeral service was held Aug. 3 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with the Rev. Timothy Cockroft officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Leonard (Jack) J. Baker, 81, of Ovid, died Aug. 2, 1999. He played professional baseball with the Cardinals in 1938, and was a professional wrestler in 1925. He was co-owner of Dol Jac Enterprises with his son, Dolan, and owned Bakers Lazy B Resort at Crystal Lake in the 1950s. Graveside services were held Aug. 4 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, with Pastor John Walworth officiating. Arrangements were made by the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid.
