Podolak Milo A. Podolak, 84, of Maple Rapids, died Aug. 9, 1999. He was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Elba Township, the son of Albert and Mary (Grigar) Podolak. He lived most of his life in the Maple Rapids area. Milo was the owner/operator of Milo & Opal's Grocery Store, and was a self-employed carpenter. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Eureka Christian Church, American Legion Post #4113, and ZCBJ. Milo married Opal Brookshire Aug. 7, 1942, at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and she survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Holland of Maple Rapids, and Judy (Robert) Bellingar of St. Johns; one son, Robert (Connie) Podolak of Perrinton; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Maniscalco of New Jersey; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosalyn Sallimeyer and Marie Podolak. The funeral service was held Aug. 12 at Eureka Christian Church with Pastor Robert Ditmer officiating. Burial was at Payne Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids. Olivia A. "Olive" Pung, 96, of St. Johns, died Aug. 9, 1999. She was born Dec. 14, 1902 in Essex Township, the daughter of Nicholas and Catherine (Eibeck) Bauer. She lived in St. Johns most of her life. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was formerly active in the Ladies Altar Society. She was a retired treasurer of the city of St. Johns. Olive married Clement Pung June 19, 1931, in Detroit. He preceded her in death April 10, 1949. Surviving are two daughters, Mary (James) Tucker of Perry, and Ruth Ann (Ronald) Bellaire of New York; three sons, Robert (Maryellen) Pung of Wisconsin, James (Rose Marie) Pung of Maryland, and Bruce (Rosalie) Pung of New York; 27 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ernie, Leo, Edward, and Harold Bauer; and two sisters, Betty Miller and Irma Thelen. The funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Timothy Krzyzaniak officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Altar Society. Ronald L. Spitzley, 70, of Fowler, died Aug. 10, 1999. He was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Fowler, the son of Arnold and Anna (Bengel) Spitzley. He lived all his life in Fowler. Ron was a life-long dairy farmer. He was an active member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, long-time member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau and MMPA. He was a Dallas Township trustee for 30 years, and a 4-H leader. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards, woodworking, and working in his garden. Ron married Julia Rademacher June 17, 1952 in Westphalia, and she survives him. Also surviving are three sons, Steven Spitzley of Fowler, William (Sharon) Spitzley of Ithaca, and Kenneth (Maureen) Spitzley of Westphalia; one daughter, Kathleen Kohagen of Ionia; eight grandchildren, Matthew and Becky Spitzley; Andy, Darrin, Katie, and Shannon Spitzley; and Crystal and Amber Kohagen; two brothers, Norman (Helen) Spitzley, and Jerome (Juanita) Spitzley, all of Fowler; three sisters, Bernice (Bernard) Hengesbach, Arlene (Wayne) McCausey, all of Fowler, and Wilma (Albert) Hengesbach of Westphalia. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 13 at Most Holy Trinity Church with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. Burial was at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler. Memorials may be made to Sisters of Christian Charity, or the Right to Life Memorial in Fowler. |
