Doris Fisher

Doris V. Fisher, 76, of Houghton Lake and formerly of St. Johns, passed away Aug. 14, 1999. She was born Oct. 18, 1922, the daughter of Llewellyn and Mary (Youdan) Krepps. She lived in the Houghton Lake area for the past 21 years, coming from St. Johns.

She was a member of the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church and Salem United Methodist Church.

She married James D. Fisher Feb. 5, 1939. He preceded her in death in March 1990.

Surviving are four daughters, Doris Brown and Vesta Federspiel, both of Saginaw, Sharon (Jim) Jenkins of Owosso, and Susan (Stephen) Hayes of Vermontville; one son Richard (Marilyn) Fisher of Holt; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Moon of Weidman, and Donna Harnick of Burton; one brother, Gerald Krepps of Dearborn. She was preceded in death by one brother, Harold; one sister, Lillian; and one granddaughter, Debbie.

Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at Salem United Methodist Church. Burial was at Eureka Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

 

Trudy Rogers

Trudy Sue Ann (Kaufman) Rogers, 33, of St. Johns, passed away Aug. 14, 1999. She was born Feb. 4, 1966, the daughter of Herman and Judy (Miller) Kaufman. She lived most of her life in the Ovid, Elsie and St. Johns areas.

She worked for the City of Lansing as a clerk. She enjoyed Creative Memories Scrapbooking.

She married Darren Rogers Feb. 16, 1995, in St. Johns, and he survives her. Also surviving are her children Holly and Alec at home; parents, Herman and Judy Kaufman of St. Johns; one sister, Kari (Dan) Dickenson of Eureka; one brother Kore, (Candace) Kaufman of St. Johns; grandparents, Junior and Jessie Kaufman and Edith Kaufman all of St. Johns; mother and father-in-law, Earl and LaVonne Rogers of St. Johns; two sister-in-laws, Roxanne (Jeff) Burnham, and Trisha (David) Hufnagel, all of St. Johns; three nieces and six nephews.

Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at Smith Funeral Home, St. Johns Chapel, with the Rev. Merlin Pratt officiating. Burial was at Duplain Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the trust fund for her children's education.

 

Goldie Moore

Goldie W.J. Moore, 85, of DeWitt, passed away Aug. 13, 1999. She was born Aug. 25, 1913 in Riley Township. She lived on the farm all her life and taught music (piano) for about 50 years.

She was a 4-H leader for 28 years, amd was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in DeWitt where she played the organ for 18 years. She was a member of the Clinton County Extension, Farm Bureau, and the Clinton County Historical Society where she was very active in genealogy research.

Surviving are several cousins.

Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at Hope Lutheran Church in DeWitt with the Rev. Toshio Okamoto officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns. Arrangements were made by the Gorsline-Runciman Company.

 

Larry Doyen

Larry E. Doyen, 61, of McHenry, Ill., and formerly of Ovid, passed away Aug. 6, 1999 from complications associated with a life-long illness.

He had served in the U.S. Air Force, and was co-owner of the Ovid Texaco service station. A private service for the family was held in McHenry, Ill.

 

Lucille Mueller

Lucille M. Mueller, 70, of St. Johns, passed away Aug. 15, 1999. She was born in Gary, Ind., June 25, 1929, the daughter of Joseph and Marian (Adler) Halfman. She lived in St. Johns most of her life.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was retired from the Michigan Department of Social Service.

She married Nobert B. "Tiny" Mueller May 29, 1954. He preceded her in death July 12, 1989.

Surviving are by one son John (Kaye) Mueller of St. Johns; two daughters, Josephine Gruber of St. Johns, and Jacqueline Mueller of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one granddaughter, Taylor Mueller, and three grandsons, Steven and Timothy Gruber and Travis Peterson; one brother, Wilber Halfman of Lowell, Ind.; and three sisters, Irene Lafever of Portage, Ind., Anna (Forrest) Goodman of Orlando, Fla., and Marian Wesley of Crown Point, Ind. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Marian and Noberta, her parents, and five brothers.

Funeral services weres held Aug. 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with tge Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak officiating. Burial was at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Homes.

 

Rev. William Stob

Rev. William J. Stob, 66, of St. Johns, passed away Aug. 14, 1999. He was born in Chicago, Ill., Feb. 22, 1933, the son of John and Hildred (Pastoor) Stob.

He was a minister, a missionary in Japan for the past 33 years, and a graduate of Calvin Seminary. He was the pastor of Narita Christian Church, Narita, Japan. He was active in prison and the mentally disabled ministry in Japan, and founded Joy Lanka Society in Sri Lanka which builds homes for poor Christians

He married Helen Weidenaar June 24, 1954, in Chicago, and she survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Joy (Jim) Sytsma and Rachel Stob both of St. Johns; five grandchildren, Nicole, Lee, Anthony, Katherine and Nicholas; mother and step-father, Hildred and Edward VandenBerg of Crete, Ill., one sister, Mary (Alfred) Luchtenberg of Darien, Ill; and two brothers, Howard (JoAnn) Stob of Palos Heights, Ill., and Leonard (Sharon) Stob of Lake Worth, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father, John Stob.

Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at the First Church of God, St. Johns, with the Rev. Richard Sytsma and the Rev. Paul Daniels officiating. Burial was at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Stickney, Ill. Memorials may be made to Narita Christian Church. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Homes.

Dennis Hahn

Dennis R. Hahn, 61, of DeWitt, passed away Aug. 13, 1999. He was born Feb. 24, 1938 in Kalamazoo.

He was employed with the State of Michigan for 35 years in the Michigan Radiation Control Department. At the time of his retirement, due to illness, he was in the Drinking Water and Radiological Protection Section, Department of Environment Quality. He had been an associate member of the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors task force on technologist credentialing and at the time of retirement was chief of the Nuclear Facilities Unit.

He enjoyed reading, playing chess and being around family and home. He was a former Elder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Jean; one daughter, Tammy Hahn of DeWitt; four sons, Devin (Lisa) of Lansing, Eric (Penny) of Wixon, Curtis (Jill) of Lansing, and David (Tricia) of Norfolk, Va.; two grandchildren, Athena and Eric. He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma LaRose.

Funeral services were Aug. 16 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Richard Holcomb officiating. Interment was at DeWitt Cemetery. Arrangments were made by the Gorsline-Runciman Co.

 

Marian Wardell

Marian Anna Wardell, 91, of DeWitt, passed away Aug. 17, 1999. She was born Sept. 25, 1907.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1982, whom she married Oct. 2, 1926 and one son, Ronald, in 1954.

Surviving are one daughter, Audrey (Terry) Smith and one son Wendel (Beverly) of DeWitt; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and a special niece Bess (Claude) Crandell of Olivet.

Funeral services were Aug. 20 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co., DeWitt Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Buske, co-pastor, and the Rev. Paul Lindloff, co-pastor of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was at DeWitt Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were made by the Gorsline-Runciman Co., DeWitt Chapel.

 

Mark Hilton

Mark Ellis Hilton, 51, of Midland, Texas formerly of Lansing, passed away Aug. 17, 1999.

He was a lab technician at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Funeral service were Aug. 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fowler, with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home.

 

Donald Warren

Donald C. Warren, 82, of Ovid, passed away Aug. 18, 1999. He was a farmer.

He was retired from Sealed Power in St. Johns. He was a member of Middlebury U.M. Church.

Funeral services were Aug. 21 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Ovid. Burial wa at Maple Grove Cemetery.

 

Pearl Devereaux

Pearl Pauline Devereaux, 93, of Middleton, passed away Aug. 19, 1999. She was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be held Aug. 23 at Smith Funeral Home, St. Johns Chapel, with Pastor Dan Coleman officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos.

 

Kirby Roll

Kirby J. Roll, 62, of St. John, passed away Aug. 19, 1999. He was born in Pontiac on Aug. 30, 1936, the son of Kirby and Grace (Haney) Roll, He lived the past four years in Harrison, coming from St. Johns.

He was a member of the Harrison Moose Lodge, and was a retired Motor Wheel employee.

He married Nancy LePreze in Lansing on March 24, 1956 and she survives. Also surviving are three daughter, Becky (David) Kebler of Elsie, Betty (Edward) Kentfield and Bonny (Timothy) Nicholas all of St. Johns; four sons, Bill (Judy) Roll of St. Johns, Bob (Diana) Roll of Kenton, Ohio, Berry (Michelle) Roll of St. Johns and Jay (Kellie) Roll of Newberry; 17 grandchildren; one sister, Margie (Jim) Bidinger of Royal Oak. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Steven Lee and one grandson Jeremy John.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Aug. 23, at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with the Rev. James Henning officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral. Memorials may be made to the Roll Family.
