Robert Nussbaumer

Robert E. Nussbaumer, 57, of St. Johns, passed away Oct. 2, 1999. He was born Jan. 7, 1942 in Evart, the son of Edward and Beatrice (Tuttle) Nussbaumer. He lived most of his life in St. Johns area.

He retired from BOC in 1997 after 31 years of service. He was a member of U.A.W. #652. He enjoyed old cars and showing his 1968 Plymouth Road Runner, gardening, and his animals. He also enjoyed Family Life Radio.

He married Joyce (Perry) Salters March 21, 1981 in St. Johns.

Survivors include his wife Joyce Nussbaumer of St. Johns; one daughter Cindy (Louis) Ward of Maple Rapids; two grandchildren, Jamie and Katie; one brother, John Nussbaumer of Mancelona; one aunt, Hazel Hollenbeck of Big Rapids; sister and brother-in-law, Deloris and Walter Kieffer Sr. of St. Johns; special friend, John Gillespie of St. Johns; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carl.

Funeral services were Oct. 5 at Smith Funeral Home, St. Johns Chapel, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Tom Wilson officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Clinton County.

 

Roger McCoy

Roger A. McCoy, 55, of St. Johns, passed away Oct. 1, 1999. He was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1004. Funeral services were Oct. 5 at the Osgood Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery.

 

Jane Squiers

Jane P. Squiers of Ovid was born into Eternal Life Oct. 2, 1999. She was retired from the former Dept. of Social Services in Owosso in 1984.

Funeral services were Oct. 6 at Shepardsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kay Pratt officiating. Burial was at Middlebury Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Houghton Chapel-Osgood Funeral Home, Ovid.

 

Ruth Husted

Ruth E. Husted, 45, of St. Johns, passed away Oct. 2, 1999. She was born in St. Johns on June 14, 1954, the daughter of Howard and Lena (Kissane) Husted. She lived in the St. Johns area most of her life. She was the officer of the Husted family genealogy group.

She is survived by four sisters, Arlene (Robert) May of Reed City, Alberta (Don) Mead of Ovid, Cathy (Ron) Elliott of Traverse City and Grace (Craig) Griffiths of Alma; one brother, David (Terri) Husted of Lansing; nephew, Cary (Dawn) Husted; niece, Janice (Tom) Horvath; and many other nieces and nephews; and special loved one, Joey. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Leon and Duane Husted.

Funeral services were Oct. 5 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. Jose Mundadan officiating.

 

Sharie Sanders

Sharie A. Sanders, 54, of DeWitt, passed away Oct. 3, 1999. She was born in St. Johns Aug. 16, 1945 the daughter of Arden and Roberta (Bond) Cressman. She lived most of her life in the DeWitt/St. Johns area.

She was a homemaker and attended the First Congregational Church in St. Johns.

She married Clair Sanders in St. Johns June 5, 1987 and he survives her. Also surviving are one step daughter, Wendy Vela of Lansing; one sister, Ruth Mary (Winford) Mabie of St. Johns; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew.

Funeral services were Oct. 6 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Wilsey Cemetery with Pastor Mark Sanders officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.

 

Ellen Salisbury

Ellen Mae Salisbury, 77, of Bannister, passed away Oct. 4, 1999. She was born in Gratiot County Feb. 21, 1922 the daughter of James Grant and Ethel Margurite (Sandford) Bishop.

She graduated from Bannister High School in 1940 and lived most of her life Bannister, Fowler, and Toledo, Ohio areas. She was a member of the Fenmore Ladies Aid Society and the Happy Hippo's and Bannister United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.

She married Howard Salisbury March 1, 1941 in Marengo. He died Sept. 2, 1998.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol (Jerry) Henry of St. Johns, Ethel (Harold) Magaw of Grand Junction, Colo., and Sue Salisbury of Bannister; one son, Keith (Jodean) Salisbury of Chesaning; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Martha (Paul) Schulz of Bannister, and Mildred Evans of Ashley; one brother-in-law, Albert (Peggy) Lowery of Alabama; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Dora Nicholas and Margaret Lowery; and one grandson Gerald Henry, Jr.

Funeral services were Oct. 7 at Smith Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel, burial at East Plains Cemetery in Clinton County with the Rev. Jana Jirak officiating. Memorials may be made to Bannister United Methodist Church.

 

Vera Smalley

Vera M. Smalley, 82, of St. Johns, passed away Oct. 4, 1999. She was born in Maple Rapids May 1, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Heibeck) Smith.

She was a homemaker, and formerly worked at the Clinton County News. She was a race enthusiast and traveled with her family to races throughout the nation.

She married Van Smalley in Edmore May 9, 1941. He preceded her in death Feb. 15, 1993.

Surviving are two sons, James (Lori) Smalley and Steven Smalley, both of St. Johns; two grandsons, Chris (Michelle) Smalley of Ithaca and Justin Smalley of Lansing; one granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Smalley of Lansing, and one great grandson, Avery Smalley.

Funeral services were Oct. 7 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Payne Cemetery with Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating.
