Clare Hainer

Clare David Hainer, 71, of Ada, passed away Oct. 13, 1999 at his home after a long illness. He was born in Clinton County June 2, 1928, the son of P.T. and Fern (Antes) Hainer.

He grew up in the Maple Rapids, St. Johns area. He served in the armed forces twice, both times stationed in Korea. He was an active member in the Alto United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion.

He married Betty Sterzick Dec. 29, 1952 in Alto and she survives him.

Also surviving are a daughter. Karen (Eric) Onufer of Belleville; one son, C. David (Sally) Hainer of Cascade; six granddaughters; sisters, Dorothy (Vern) Decker of Carson City, Alice (Martin) Richmond and Gladys (Bruce) Irish, all of St. Johns;many nieces,nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by by his parents, P.T. and Fern Hainer; brothers Paul, Howard, Clifford and Donald; sisters, Marian Hunt Wellington and Grace Masarik Schafer.

Funeral services were Oct. 15 at Alto United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bryan Schneider Thomas officiating. Burial was at Merriman Cemetery. Contribution may be made to the Alto United Methodist Church. The family was served by the Roth-Gerst Funeral Home in Lowell.

 

Tara Herrle

Tara Marie Herrle, 33, of Walled Lake, formerly of Franklin, passed away Oct. 19, 1999. She was born Nov. 5, 1965, the daughter of Richard and Gladys (Schlehlein) Herrle.

She attended New Visions School/Farmington Training Center in Farmington. She was employed by New Horizon where she supervised workship/sheltered workshop. She loved music of all kinds, movies, the water, swimming, the arts, enjoyed going to live theater, and she participated in Special Olympic (Field Game). She touched the lives of most people that she met, and was a responsible person. Quote from Madonna Herrle: "Tara's life impacted more people in this world than we could hope to imagine."

Surviving are her parents, Richard and Gladys; one sister Madonna Herrle of St. Johns; two brothers Richard Herrle, Jr., and Robert Herrle; one niece Danielle Herrle; and one nephew Hunter Herrle Jordon.

Funeral services were in New York Oct. 23 and interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y. Memorials may be given to The ARC of Oakland County or New Song Christian Academy in St. Johns. The family was served by the A.J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home in Troy.

 

Howard Gilmore

Howard L. Gilmore, 68, of Maple Rapids, passed away Oct. 18, 1999, he was a former construction worked. There was no visitation or services. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Home.

 

Carol Watson

Carol Sue Watson, 56, passed away Oct. 20, 1999. She was a homemaker and good mom. Funeral services were Oct. 23 at the Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

 

Nicholas Joseph Sr.

Nicholas Arsa Joseph Sr., age 86, of Owosso, passed away Oct. 18, 1999. He was a foreman at Chrysler Corporation, retiring after 33 years. Funeral services were Oct. 23 at Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.

 

Andreas Sturzer

Andreas Sturzer, 82, of Corunna, passed away Oct. 21, 1999. He was a former shoemaker in Germany and he retired from Strawsine Mfg. in 1979. Funeral services were Oct. 23 at Smith Funeral Home, Corunna Chapel.

James Sali

James Sali, 97, of St. Johns, passed away Oct. 21, 1999. He was born in Yanoshas, Hungary Feb. 28, 1902, the son of Frank and Frances (Nemeth) Sali. He was a farmer and a member of the Assembly of God Church.

He married Anna Eger in Ovid April 23, 1923 and she preceded him in death on January 16, 1987.

Surviving are two sons, Frank (Eva) Sali of Muskegon and James (Greta) Sali Jr., of St. Johns; three daughters, Mary (Carl) Greening of St. Louis, Margaret Burns of Houghton Lake, Helen (Donald) Hofkamp of St. Johns; 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Services are Oct. 25 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Oct. 24 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

 

Mary Lu Perrien

Mary Lu Perrien, 69, of Elsie, passed away Oct. 21, 1999. She graduated from Elsie High school in 1949. She was a homemaker.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Oct. 25, at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Ovid. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie.

Beverly Rositas

Beverly A. Rositas, 72, of St. Johns died Oct. 16, 1999. She was born March 21, 1927 in Lansing, the daughter of Mark and Rose Barnes. She lived in the St. Johns area for the past 50 years.

She attended Grove Bible Church. She worked at MacKinnon's Store in St. Johns for several years. She was a loving mother and sister, and to her grandchildren she was Grandma Farm.

She married Antonio Rositas July 14, 1972 and he survives her.

Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Boyer of Lansing and her children Kimberly (Patrick) O'Dell and Brian Boyer; Mary (Bob) DiVietri of Lansing and their children Angela and Nick DiVietri; one son Joe (Melody) Marek of St. Johns and their children Robert, Douglas and Heidi Marek; seven step-children, Olga (Larry) Burk, Roberto (Dixa) Rositas, Armando (Cindy) Rositas, Lidia (John) Decker, all of St. Johns, Anita Rositas of St. Louis, Rodolfo (Rita) Rositas of DeWitt, Margarita Rositas of Lansing; 18 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren; one brother Robert M. Barnes of Lansing. She was preceded in death by six sisters.

Funeral services were Oct. 19 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Robert Prange officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

J. Lionel Foote

J. Lionel Foote, 79, of St. Johns, died Oct. 19, 1999. He was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Gratiot County, the son of James and Lila (Hoard) Foote.

He was a World War II veteran, farmer, and was a member of First United Methodist Church and Farm Bureau.

He married Norene Vanderband April 17, 1946 and she survives him.

Also surviving are two daughters, Jean (Gayland) Tennis of Bath, and Carolyn (Lynn) Coffman; one son Keith (Debbie) Foote, all of St. Johns; seven grand children, Kelly Coffman, Paula (Matt) Wilcox, all of Lansing, Kendra Coffman, Rebecca Foote, Emily Foote, Tammy Bushard and Mindy Bushard, all of St. Johns; one sister, Evelyn Boyce of Fowler, and one step-brother, Ivan Fidler of St. Johns. He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Olson, and a brother, Lyle Foote.

Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating. Military graveside services provided by V.F.W. Post 4113 and the American Legion Post 153. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
