Dorothy M. Welsh, 90, of St. Johns, died Oct. 29, 1999. She was born Dec. 12, 1908 in Leola, S.D., the daughter of Pearl and Cecilia (DeWitt) Neel. She lived most of her life in the St. Johns area. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, O.E.S. #79, St. Johns Woman's Club and of the county, state and National Retired Teacher Associations having taught school in Ontario, Canada, Wakefield, and St. Johns. She married Russell Welsh April 5, 1936 in Laingsburg. Their marriage of 48 years ended with his death May 19, 1984. Surviving are three sons, Neel (Debbie Mainguy) Welsh of St. Clair, Thomas (Lori Shepard) Welsh of St. Johns, and James (Jeannie) Welsh of East Lansing; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Phillip, in 1958. Funeral services were held Nov. 1 at Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Olson officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor or the St. Johns Women's Club Scholarship Fund.
Bernard Joseph Buffa, 53, of Flushing, died Oct. 29, 1999. He was a skilled trades welder at Delphi Plant in Flint. Funeral services were held Nov. 3 at the Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. Howard W. Brown, 82, of St. Johns, died Oct. 28, 1999. He was born Sept. 26, 1917, in Clare County, the son of Lewis and Charlotte (Hunt) Brown. He retired from skilled trades at General Motors in 1975 after 34 years of service. He was a member of Grove Bible Church and U.A.W. Local #1618. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and enjoyed being a greeter with Lonnie Engle at Grove Bible Church. He married Virginia Thayer July 20, 1940 and she survives him. Also surviving are one daughter, Linda Brown of DeWitt, three sons, Larry (Martha) Brown, William "Bill" (Charlene) Brown, both of St. Johns, and Richard (Kathy) Brown of Lansing; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leslie "Carl" (Peggy) Brown of Gladwin; and one sister Shirley Thompson of Coleman. He was preceded in death by two infant great-grandsons; three brothers Ralph, Ray, and L.G. Brown; and three sisters, Beatrice Cramer, Viola Corder and Leona Rolland. Funeral services were held Nov. 1 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with Pastor Robert Prange and Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
Matthew S. Bendele, infant three-month-old son of Steve and Kerri (Boyd) Bendele, passed away Oct. 31, 1999. He was born July 6, 1999 in Lansing. Along with his parents, Matthew is survived by one brother, Jacob; grandparents Pat and Judy Boyd of Mt. Pleasant, and Rudy and Linda Bendele of Shepard; great grandparents, Rosella Swetz of Mt. Pleasant, and Bill Kriesel of Muskegon; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral Mass was held Nov. 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy D. Krzyzaniak officiating. Memorials may be made to the Sparrow Foundation. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Home.
Catherine J. "Kay" Myers, 60, of Hemlock and formerly of St. Johns, died Oct. 31, 1999 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 12, 1939 in St. Johns, the daughter of Benjamin and Amelia (Schaefer) Castner. She lived most of her life in the St. Johns area. She was a homemaker and helped care for patients through East Lansing Home Health Care. Surviving are two daughters Robin (Jeff) Motz of St. Johns and Holly (David) Beveridge of Spokane, Wa.; two sons Mark (Bonnie) Myers of St. Johns and Grant (Leslie) Myers of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Sara and Bret Myers, Hannah Myers, Allison Motz, Kelsey and Brooke Beveridge; five sisters Mary Jane Gilson of St. Johns, Jeanette (Merlin) Durbin of Lakeview, Doris Bauman, Ellen (Robert) Pfeuffer, both of Traverse City, and "Kirby" Brunner of Lansing; special friends Alexander Harmony and James and Nila Daubert and family. Funeral services were held Nov. 3 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Wendy Sue Earle officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Clinton County or Clinton Memorial Hospital. Edna I. Brown, 85, of Grand Ledge and formerly of Clinton County, passed away Nov. 4, 1999. She was born June 23, 1914 in Gratiot County the daughter of Orin and Estella (Harp) Rhines. She lived in Clinton County most of her life. She was a retired press operator for General Motors. She always had spunk, always was striving to put a smile on other people's faces, always was laughing and joking, always had a spark in her spirit and a sparkle in her eye. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Richard) Sabrosky of Grand Ledge; two sons, Terry (Barbara) Brown and Thomas (Wendy) Brown all of California; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one brother Basil (Sophie) Rhines of Saginaw. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Clare. A memorial services were held Nov. 6 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Pastor William Amundsen officiating. Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society. Shirley Mae Adams, 70, of Corunna, passed away Nov. 3, 1999. She was a homemaker. Memorial services will be held at at 2 p.m., Nov. 13, at Smith Funeral Home, Corunna Chapel. Frances "Gussy" Dvorski, 68, of Owosso, passed away Nov. 5, 1999. She worked for Universal Electric and Magnetek for 47 years, retiring in October 1994. Funeral services were held Nov. 8 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owosso. The family was served by Smith Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. |
