Ryan Wanda Enola Ryan, 76, of Sault Ste. Marie, passed away Dec. 7, 1999 at her home. She was born in St. Johns Jan. 2, 1923. She graduated from St. Johns High School in 1941. She was a member of Rosedale Community Church. Among her life-long interests were sewing for others, gardening, and teaching others crafts. She left behind a legacy of quilts that she made for family and friends. She married Roy F. Ryan Sept. 24, 1942, and he survives her. Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Bradbury of Highland Village, Texas, and Vicki Dent of Noblesville, Ind.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Delbert Anderson of Richardson, Texas, Sam Anderson of Tucson, Ariz., Louis Anderson and Earl Anderson, both of St. Johns; three sisters, Hilda Bancroft and Lois Glass, both of St. Johns, Helen Todd of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Baker and Rilla E. (Henderson) Anderson; a son, Roy Patrick Ryan; and a sister, Carol Wallace. Funeral services were Dec. 11 at Hovie Funeral Home with Pastor Lon Mohr officiating. Memorials may be made to Rosedale Community Church. The family was served by the Hovie Funeral Home, Sault Ste. Marie.
Blanche Luella Acker, 92, of St. Louis, passed away Dec. 8, 1999. She was a Grey Lady and did volunteer work. Funeral services were Dec. 11 at the Coe Church of Christ, Coe. The family was served by the Alward-Carter Funeral Home, St. Louis.
Arlene L. Irrer, 82, of St. Johns, passed away Dec. 9, 1999. She was born in Marion Springs March 16, 1917 the daughter of Irving and Ida (Hubbard) Deming. She lived most of her life in the Ovid and St. Johns areas. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hub Antique Car Club, and formerly worked at C & M Shop and Sadies Clothing. She married Harold Irrer April 29, 1939 in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death April 23, 1990. She is survived by her son, Larry H. (Phyllis) Irrer of St. Johns; two grandchildren, Kevin (Renee) Irrer of St. Johns and Shelly (Ben) Taylor of Eureka; three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; one brother, Leo (Pudge) Deming of Carland; one sister Joyce (Cecil) Pugh of Elsie; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by one sister Vera Cannon. Funeral services were Dec. 12 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery, with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church. Donald E. Steffen, 56, of St. Johns, passed away Dec. 10, 1999. He was a former Saylor Beall employee. Funeral services are Dec. 14 at the Osgood Funeral Home. Ramon Palacios, 61, of Lansing, went home to be with his Lord Dec. 9, 1999. He was born March 31, 1938 in Crystal City, Texas, the son of Refugio and Petra (Ledesma) Palacios. He worked for General Motors for 30 years. Survivors include his wife, Jeanine Palacios of St. Johns; seven children, Cynthia (Bill) Plowman of Lansing, Timothy Palacios of Ludington, Cathy Jo (Jim) Backus of Charlotte, Ramon (Susan) Palacios, Jr. of Spring, Texas, Chrisanna Palacios of Charlotte, Shari (Jim) Stockmeyer of Leslie, and Patricia Noell of Buckeye, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; six brothers and two sisters; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. A memorial service will be held at the Cristo Rey Church in Lansing at a later date. The family was served by the Smith Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Genevieve Tyler, 85, of Ovid, passed away Dec. 4, 1999. She was born July 29, 1914 in Fairfield Twp., the daughter of Charles and Winnie Cushman. She graduated from Ovid High School in 1930, County Normal, Central Michigan University, and taught country schools in Clinton County, retiring in 1966. She was a member of the United Church of Ovid. She married Roscoe Tyler Dec. 26, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland. He passed away Nov. 7, 1984. She is survived by one son, Thomas (Sharon) Tyler of Ovid; one daughter, Nancy (James) Ball of Clair; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marguerite Randall of Owosso. She was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services were Dec. 8 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Ovid, with the Rev. Rob McPherson officiating. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ovid. Memorials may be made to the Ovid Public Library or donor's choice Ethel V. Estes Lux, 95, of Morrice, passed away Dec. 2, 1999 in Green Valley, Ariz. She was born May 7, 1904 in Paulding Co., Ohio, the daughter of Harvey and Nellie (Lackey) Griffith. She lived in St. Johns and Morrice and was active in the Women's Club and Methodist Church in Morrice. She was employed by the Watercraft Division of the Secretary of State's office before retiring in 1974. The past four years she has wintered in Arizona with son, Jack, and enjoyed the summer at Pretty Lake in Mecosta with son, Ivan. Surviving are two sons, Ivan (Doreen) Estes of Mecosta and Jack (Mona) Estes of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren Jodi Gabert of Reed City and Linda Bastin of Tucson; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Thelma Eick and Hilda Smith, both of St. Johns, Gwen Streeter of Columbus, Ohio, and Evelyn Keener of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lux; grandson, David Estes; parents; one brother, Merlyn (Bud) Griffith; and one sister, Myrtle Ryon. Memorial services were held Dec. 10 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with the Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating. Memorials may be made to the Hospice for Clinton County. Trellis D. Nowak, 73, of St. Johns, passed away Dec. 2, 1999. She was born in Clinton County March 2, 1926, the daughter of Wilbur and Frances (Harris) Worrall.She lived in the St. Johns area most of her life. She was a member of the First Congregational Church. She married Bernard Nowak in St. Johns June. 28, 1953. He preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1965. Surviving are one daughter, Barbara (Eugene) Jones of St. Johns; one son Keith Nowak, of Chicago, Ill., two granddaughters, Lindsey Field and Haley Jones; one sister, Joanne Clark; and one brother, Rex (Joyce) Worrall, both of Davenport, Fla. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ila Stevens and eight brothers, Henry, Wilber, Donald, Larry, Richard, John, Robert and Rex Worrall. Memorial services were Dec. 8 at the Osgood Funeral Home with Pastor Cayle Beagle officiating.
Walter P. Hufnagel, 86, of Fowler, passed away Dec. 7, 1999. He was born in Dallas Township April 9, 1913, the son of John and Clara (Spitzley) Hufnagel. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler Conservation Club, and U.A.W. Local #602 having worked in receiving at Fisher Body. He married Marie Geller May 1, 1937. She preceded him in death July 19, 1994. Surviving are three sons, Ronald (Kay) Hufnagel of Grand Ledge, Claude (Judy) Hufnagel of Fowler, Paul (Donna) Hufnagel of Lansing; two daughters, Carol (Roger) Freund of Pewamo, Elaine (Dale) Irrer of St. Johns; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eleanor Bedenbender of Lansing and Helen Wirth of Westphalia. He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Dale Pennington; one brother, Roman Hufnagel; four sisters, Philomena Schafer, Bernita Dertinger, Elda Thelen and Marian Pline. The funeral Mass was Dec. 10 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. Burial was at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Fox, 32, of Fowler, passed away Dec. 5, 1999, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born Aug. 28, 1967, in Lansing, the daughter of Richard and Patricia Ann (Braska) Thelen. She lived her entire life in Fowler. She was a homemaker, a 1985 graduate of Fowler High School, a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Christian Mothers Association, was an avid camper, and enjoyed crafts and spending time with her daughter. She married Bruce T. Fox Oct. 15, 1988 in Fowler, and he survives her. Also surviving are one daughter, Brittany Ann Fox; her parents of Fowler; grandparents, Rose Thelen of Fowler and Ellie Braska of Lansing; one brother, Richard M. Thelen, Jr.; four sisters, Wendy (Jeff) Armbrustmacher, Amy (Alan) Martin, Shelly (Gary) Martin, all of Fowler, and Tina (Jon) Thelen of Westphalia; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Scott Schueller and Chuck and Velma Courser. The funeral Mass was Dec. 8 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating.
