Taste Of The Town winners named

The St. Johns Downtown Management Board is pleased to announce winners at the Taste of the Town Event held in Downtown St. Johns on June 27-28, 2008. In addition to the arts and crafts vendors, live music and beverage tent, a Poker Walk involving 25 downtown businesses brought in numerous Poker Walk participants. Participants went to downtown businesses to draw a card which could be used to put together a winning Poker hand. This year’s Poker Walk winner is Irene Watson of St. Johns who put together a winning hand of five kings. Watson won a gift basket put together by the participating businesses that was filled with prizes and gift certificates valued at approximately $400.

Participating businesses in the poker walk included: Woodbury’s Flower Shop, Traditions Bakery and Deli, Swany’s Pub and Grub, The Alibi, Bill’s Barber Shop, Gill-Roy’s Hardware, Deano’s Pizza, Bruno’s Bar, Mazz’s Endzone Party Store, Treasure Chest, Kurt’s Appliance Center, St. Vincent DePaul Store, Clinton County Arts Gallery, Main Street Pizza, Radio Shack, Main Street Café, Sirens, Cindy’s Ice Cream Treats, Rehmann’s Clothing, Today’s Memories Tomorrow’s Treasures, Furniture and Mattress Liquidators, Antiques and Friends, Always Charming, The Bead Palette, and Courthouse Cuts. Also contributing to the gift basket prizes was Unique Reflections.

The Taste of the Town also featured Saturday afternoon BBQ ribs and pulled pork contests, featuring twelve contestants. Placing first in this year’s BBQ ribs contest was Andy Todosciuk, owner of Andy Ts Farms, with Courtney Brundege placing second, and Megan Desander placing third. In the pulled pork BBQ contest, Hunter Desander placed first, followed by Megan Desander in second place, and Steve Dennis in third place.

Corporate sponsors for the Taste of the Town event include: Firstbank of St. Johns, St. Johns Reminder, Dan Henry Distributing, Account Receivable Solutions, Allaby and Brewbaker Insurance, Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, The Alibi, Fifth-Third Bank, Jet Speed Printing, Kurt’s Appliance Center, Bruno’s Wonder Bar, Deano’s Pizza, Mazz’s Endzone Party Store, Dershey’s Café, McKenzie Agency Inc., and Clinton County Federal Credit Union. Fencing was provided by the Clinton County Road Commission and the City of St. Johns. Additional help and support was provided by the City of St. Johns Department of Public Works and the St. Johns Police Department.

Net proceeds from the Taste of the Town event will benefit future projects, improvements, and events for Downtown St. Johns.
