Frances H. Bishop | Thomas J. (TJ) Flynn, III |
Frances H. Bishop, 91, of Owosso, died Dec. 14, 2001 at Memorial Healthcare Center. She was born Dec. 6, 1910 in Fowler, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Shafer) Hufnagel. She lived most of her life in Owosso. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Kings Daughters, Y.W.C.A. Teen Leader, Hospice volunteer, and an avid Detroit Tiger fan. She was well known for her baking, a friend to people of all ages, and a loyal secretary to her husband, Frank, in his conservation work. She worked at Universal Electric (A.O. Smith) for 20 years retiring in 1973. She married Frank Bishop Dec. 31, 1937, in St. Johns. He preceded her in death in 1996. Surviving are her daughters, Maureen (Richard) Gilna of Corunna, Janis (Kenneth) Kazen of Owosso; sons, James (Stella) Bishop of St. Ignace, Fred (Lynn) Bishop of Tavernier, Fla.; grandchildren, Kristin (Pat) Kazen-Gillespie, Joseph Kazen, Lisa Jonkheere, Timothy (Shawn) Bishop, Michele (Erwin) Lenneman, Cheryl Cherry, Michael (Lisa) Gilna, Christine Gilna, and 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Andrew Bishop; three granddaughters, Mary Theresa, Vicki Jo, Kelly Marie; one great- grandson, Tristin Bishop; seven brothers and two sisters. Fr. Greg Tournoux officiated at the funeral service; burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family was served by the Jennings-Lyons Funeral Chapel. Thomas J. (TJ) Flynn, III, DeWitt, born November 6, 1962, in Reedsburg, WI; died January 1, 2002, at the age of 39. TJ was an avid sports fan, especially the Green Bay Packers and stock car racing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Christina, in 1978, and sister, Teresa, in 1995. Surviving are his father, Thomas J. Jr., (Becky) Flynn of DeWitt; 1 brother, Theodore "Ted" (Jodi) Flynn and their son, Spencer of Holt; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, January 5, at 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin St., DeWitt, with the Rev. Dwight Ezop, Pastor of Catholic Community of St. Jude, officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt. Waverly, Lansing, MI 48917, in memory of TJ. Juliann "Jul" Blauwiekel died January 1, 2002 at the age of 80. She was born in Westphalia on October 15, 1921, the daughter of Pius and Mary (Stump) Fedewa. She was a homemaker, former manager of Pewamo Feed & Beverage and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo. Jul married Lawrence Blauwiekel in Pewamo on October 23, 1943 and he survives her. Also surviving are daugher, Susan (Gene) Norris of Gaylord, son, Nicholas (Debra) Blauwiekel of Charlott, NC, two grandchildren, Nicholas and Michelle, two brothers, Ervin (Rosemary) Fedewa of Grand Rapids and Steve (Martha) Fedewa of Fowler, sister, Adeline Bertram of Grand Rapids, and brother-in-law, Phillip Hauck of Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother-in-law. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 5, 2002 at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler, with Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason officiating. Rosary will be prayed 3 and 8 P.M. Thursday and 3 P.M. Friday with a vigil service 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Joseph Catholic School, Pewamo. Age 39 of Lansing, Michigan died Tuesday, January 1, 2002 at his mothers home in Owosso, Michigan. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 4, 2002 at 11:00 A.m. at St. Cyrils Catholic Church in Bannister, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie. Visitation will be Thursday 2-9 with the family present from 2-4 & 7-9 P.m. Timothy was born in Owosso, Michigan on March 31, 1962, the son of Mark H. & Elizabeth T. (Schmitz) ODonnell. He graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School with the class of 1980. He lived in Elsie until his graduation, and assumed a job with Dennys Restaurants in East Lansing and resided there until his illness when he moved to Owosso. Tim also served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth T. ODonnell of Owosso, father, Mark & Kathy ODonnell of Elsie, 2 sisters, Patricia ODonnell of Owosso, Theresa & Michael Hicks of Midland, 1 sister in law, Gwen & Jim Graham of Fenton, 1 niece Laura, 3 nephews, Brian, Andrew & Jonathan, 2 step brothers, Arlo & Deena Knutson, Larry & Laurie Knutson, 2 step sisters, Elsie & Rod Loynes, and Loretta Knutson, step nieces & nephews, Jamie, Rhonda, Heather, Kelsey, Kristian, Ross, Rita, Erik, Alexa, Nicholas, Nathan, Tate, & Lacey. He was predeceased by 1 brother, Mark A. ODonnell, 1 sister Elise M. ODonnell, and 1 nephew Mark E. ODonnell. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Walter E. Woodbury died Tuesday, January 1, 2002. He was born in Shiawassee County on March 13, 1910, the son of Ora and Lora (Johnson) Woodbury and retired to Chippewa Lake before moving to St. Johns in 1998. Walter was attending St. Johns Church of the Nazarene and worked for Toledo Commutator Co. of Owosso for 18 years and retired from M.S.U.. He married Edith Lyon on April 8, 1928 and she preceded him in death on January 23, 1999. Survivng are two daughters, Virginia Woodbury and Ida (Francis) Wilson, two grandsons, Thomas (Raenell) Wilson and Dennis (Krys) Wilson, all of St. Johns, five great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren, and one sister, Elizabeth Dougan of Hartland. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl & Ernest, and two sisters, Bertha Bolton & Gladys Cole. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 3, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Timothy Cockroft officiating. Clark, Grand Ledge, age 88, passed away December 31, 2001 in Lansing. She was born October 23, 1913 in Westphalia, daughter of William and Mary (Thelen) Spitzley. She was a lifelong area resident and active member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Ledge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1989. She is survived by daughters, Diana (Michael) Neirink of Grand Blanc, Donna Pollock of Grand Rapids, and Barbara (John) Wilcox of St. Johns; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosella Huhn of Grand Ledge and Sr. Antonio Spitzley S.S.J. of Nazareth, many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 3, 2002, 11 a.m. at St. Michael Church, Grand Ledge by Rev. Fr. Robert McGraw. Interment Niles Cemetery. Glenn William Daniher died January 1, 2001 at the age of 70. He was born in Middlebury Township on September 14, 1931, the son of William and Beulah (Jackson) Daniher and lived in the Ovid and Owosso area most of his life. He was a truck driver for Main Beverage, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Owosso V.F.W. Post #9455. Surviving are four daughters, Connie (Rod) Buxton of Middleville, MI, Mylinda (Larry) Ordway of Ovid, Maryjo Danier (friend Joe) and Bille Sue Wiegel (friend Keith), all of Owosso, five grandchildren, sister, Pat (Dale) Serviss of Ovid and two brothers, Bob Daniher (friend Joanne) of Stanton, MI and Lee (Karen) Daniher of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Mary was born in Ovid on August 2, 1913 the daughter of George and Lulu (Walker) Barber. She graduated from Ovid High School in 1930. On September 27, 1935 she married Erwin "Archie" Miller in Ovid and he preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. Mary had been active in the United Church, O.E.S. of which she was a life member, Crescent Club, Dessert Bridge Club, and Laugh A Lot Club. Surviving is her sister, Shirley Doty of Brighton. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a half-brother, a brother and a sister. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 3, 2002 at the funeral home with Rev. Rob McPherson officiating. Raymond "Jim" "Chuck" Halfmann Raymond "Jim" "Chuck" Halfmann died January 1, 2002 at the age of 79. He was born in Fowler on May 25, 1922, the son of Ernest and Mary (Martin) Halfmann and lived in the Fowler area all his life. He worked for the postal service for 35 years, the last 20 years as postmaster of the Fowler Post Office, was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a veteran of World War II, member of V.F.W. Post #3733 and the D.A.V. He married Genevieve Spitzley in Fowler on October 21, 1948 and she survives him. Also surviving are three daughters, Mary Jo (David) Duffy of Lansing, Dawn (Steven) McClanahan of Gladstone, MO and Cindy (Larry) Pline of Pewamo, three sons, Jim (Beth) Halfmann, Steven (Rosemary) Halfmann and David (Linda) Halfmann, all of Fowler, 19 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and 2 sisters, Geraldine Cook of Carson City and Mary Jane (Ted) Vail of Sun Prairie, WI. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 4, 2002 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Military graveside services provided by V.F.W. Post #3733. Frederick Simunek died January 1, 2002 at the age of 88. He was born in Saginaw on August 17, 1913, the son of Frederick and Marie (Proks) Simunek and lived in St. Johns most of his life. He retired from General Motors as a welder after 32 years of service and was a member of U.A.W. Local #1518. Frederick married Phyllis Beebe in Fowlerville, MI on August 25, 1934 and she survives him. Also surviving are four daughters, April Kephart of Lansing, Beverly (Paul) Wilkes of Bass Lake, MI, Madeline (Robert) Arnold of Loveland, CO and Tama Simunek of Las Vegas, NV, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and one sister, Helen Zimmerman of Portland, MI. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 4, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Wednesday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Rosina Wilhelmina Mohnke, 87 died Sunday Dec. 30, 2001. Born Feb. 4, 1914 in Riley Twp. the daughter of Lewis & Augusta (Schrader) Martens. In 1934 Rosina married Herman F. (Rusty) Mohnke of Bengal Twp where she resided the rest of her life. Rusty, along with their eldest son, Herman L. preceded her in death in May of 1955. As a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church (Riley), she was actively involved in many organizations including the Ladies Aide, Choir, PTA, Over 50's Group, Senior Members and Widows and Widowers. Rosina was an Avon Representative for almost 30 years, yet her most rewarding calling was that of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving are her children, Ron & Carol Mohnke of Big Rapids, Mary Ann & Larry Grennell of St. Johns, Sandy & Dave Lockwood of Lowell, and Rex and Tracy Mohnke of St. Johns. Grandchildren are Missy & Paul Athmann, Mike & Therese Mohnke, Mindy Mohnke-Powley, Marie & Todd Richard, Marty & Marlene Mohnke, Mark & Chris Grennell, Deb & Robert Sutherland, Brian & Jodi Grennell, Darcy & Gerry Pace, Laura & Mark Gilson, Tam & Becky Lockwood and Christopher & Paul Mohnke, 29 great-grandchildren, brother and sister in law Alfred & Doris Mohnke, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Trumbull died Sunday, December 30,2001 at the age of 83. She was born February 24, 1918 the daughter of Herman and Ethel (Barnard) Keck. Margaret was a graduate of Bath High School, class of 1935, worked at Motor Wheel Corp. during WWII and lived in Riley Township for fifty five years until moving into St. Johns in April of 2000. She married Clarence Trumbull on October 7, 1942 and he survives her. Also surviving are one sister, Catherine Simons of Lansing, one brother, Lawrence (Shirley) Keck of DeWitt, two sisters-in-law, Jeannette Keck of Laingsburg and Frances Snyder of Hastings, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother Clarence Keck in December of 1983 and one brother-in-law Gordon Simons in June of 1993. Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home burial at DeWitt Cemetery with Pastor Dave Leisman officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 P.M. Monday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society. Fred A. Adams, Laingsburg, died December 25, 2001 at his home. Born February 1, 1920 in DeWitt Township, son of Guy Adams and Adeline Cheney Adams. He was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Virgil and Claude Adams, sister Therma Smith, infant grandchildren Brent and Diane Harris, Craig and Margaret Skrelunas. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lauralee Lewis Adams; daughters, Suzanne (Edwin) Skrelunas, Kathy Wolf and Nancy (Mike) Soules; son John (Martha) Adams; grandchildren, Martin Skrelunas, Chad and Camy Harris, Tracy (Chris) Alexander, Kelly (Brian) Cotter, Jamie (Mark) Armstrong, Paul Cook, Jeff (Kate) and Lindsay Adams; and great-grandchildren, Lance and Kayleigh Harris, and Evan Card. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Gordon (Rosellen) Lewis; many nieces and nephews; and special neighbors, Dan, Jeanne, Jade and Cole Hanson, Bob and Claudeen Blastic, Jason, Andy, Kory, Holly and countless other neighbors and lifetime friends. Fred was a graduate of Eastern High School and Cleary College. He served in the submarine service during World War II. He was involved in school and church activities his entire life and was currently a member of Laingsburg Congregational UCC. He was born in Jackson, MI, to Ed and Eileen Lee on May 3, 1945. In August 1964 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a Security Guard in Khartoum, Sudan and Istanbul, Turkey. After accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior on March 25, 1975 his professional ministry career spanned 26 years, serving with the Christian ministries of Campus Crusade for Christ, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Bible Literature International and Luis Palau Evangelistic Association. Philip also served on the Advisory Board of the Amy Foundation and had been associated with Christian Businessmen's Committee since 1975. Surviving are Carole, his wife of 31 years; one daughter, Elizabeth (Todd) Bosanic of East Lansing; one son, Thomas Lee of Chicago, IL; 2 brothers, Mike (Becky) Lee of Grayling, Mark (Anne) Lee; and 3 sisters, Mary Ann (Ted) Feick, Jane (Dick) Konkol and Katherine (Doug) Swartz all of Jackson. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31, at 10 a.m. at DeWitt Community Church, 505 Webb Rd., DeWitt. Interment will be held in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt. Zimmerman, 73, of Ashley, died Dec. 28, 2001, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing. Miles was born in Edgewood June 17, 1928, the son of Ralph and Vera (Flegel) Zimmerman. He married Grace Ellen Garrett June 18, 1950. She preceded him in death in 1969. Miles was an independent truck driver for many years. He enjoyed helping other people and rooted for the underdog. He was devoted to AA. He loved his boat, whether just cruising or pulling the grandkids on skis. Miles is survived by his children, Beverly (Joe) Mallek of Merrill, Joan (Charlie) Geller of St. Johns, Diane (Rich) Chapko of St. Johns, Michael (Ellen) Zimmerman of Ashley and Marty (Vickie Gage) Zimmerman of Crystal; 12 grandchildren, Tony, Angela, Andrew, Andrea, Cheri, Carie, Jeremy, Matt, Mark, Mike, Grace and Jon; one great-granddaughter, Frankie; sister, Bernice (Lowell) Boyer of Alma; and brother, Ron (Belva) Zimmerman of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Surian; his granddaughter, Rachel; five sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were held Dec. 31, at the Barden Funeral Home,Ithaca.
