Abigail Curtiss

Abigail Lane "Abbey" Curtiss, DeWitt, MI Born January 4, 2001 and left this earth on March 13, 2002, after a short illness. She was a happy, energetic baby who loved to laugh and play with her beloved sister, Harley. We will always remember our angel who would jump for joy when you walked into the room, at the same time treating you to a smile that lit up her entire face. Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same.

She is survived by her sister, Harley; loving parents, Chad and Kammy of DeWitt; grandparents, Jeff and Penny Hunt and Boyd and Diane Curtiss of DeWitt, and Sonia and John Amber of Jupiter, FL; great-grandparents, Don "Poppy" and Sharon Hunt of DeWitt, James Moriarty and Joyce Overmeyer of IN, Donald Curtiss and Jessie Donley of Mt. Pleasant and Thomas Nongueska of DeWitt; great-great grandmother, Rosella Ballard of Lansing; and many aunts and uncles, including special uncles, Conner, Cade and Jason Hunt; loving cousins, Erica, Brooks, Tyler, Trevor, Hannah, John, Maddy, Gavin, Taylor, Cassidy, Bryant and Kyle. She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Helen Nongueskwa and cousin, Jackson Kyes.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 17, 4 PM at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Sunday from 2-4 PM. Gloria J. Riley

Gloria J. Riley, 69, of Muir, died March 9, 2002 at her vacation home in Sebring, Fla. She was born July 17, 1932 in Greenville, the daughter of James and Gertrude (Barr) Hoffman.

She married Leonard T. Riley Sept. 1, 1995 in St. Johns. She worked for Clinton Memorial Hospital in the accounting office for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Johns.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard T. Riley of Muir; daughters, Nancy (Mark) Jacobs of Chelsea, and Connie (Charles) Drouin of Wellington, Fla.,; sons, Ed (Nancy) Jorae of New York City, and Mike Jorae of Belleville; six grandchildren; brothers, Jim (Gloria) Hoffman of Deckerville, Dick (Joyce) Hoffman of Knoxville, Tenn., Jerry (Donna) Hoffman of Marine City; sisters, Virginia (Art) Holmden of Crystal River, Fla., and Grace Reed of Zepherhills, Fla. She was preceded in death by parents, James and Gertrude Hoffman.

Funeral services were held March 15, 2002 at the Lux and Schnapp Funeral Home in Carson City with Fr. William Reitz officiating. Memorials may be made to the Good Shephard Hospice.

Norma R. Bozzo

Norma R. Bozzo passed away Feb. 22, 2002 in Tucson, Ariz. She was born April 3, 1923 in Saginaw.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years,  Joseph A. Bozzo; children, Janice (John) Buttrey of Tucson; Curtis James (Marci) of Tuscon; Brian (Sandra) of Phoenix.

Norma was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, a Navy JWAVE veteran of WWII and attended the Saginaw Business Institute for two years. She was a member of VFW Post 549 and the local WAVE organization.

The Bozzos owned the party store in downtown St. Johns for a few years and lived on Mead Street.

Memorial Services were held Feb. 27, 2002 at East Lawn Palms Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Louis W. Johnson of Tucson Baptist Temple officiating.

Donald K. French

French_D.jpg (6710 bytes)Donald K. French died March 8, 2002 after a brief illness at the age of 72. He was born in DeWitt Township, MI on May 16, 1929, the son of Everett and Thelma (Glaister) French. He was a U.S. Marine Korean War veteran, former Federal Mogul employee, life member of American Legion Post #0016 of Shawnee, OK, a lifetime member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and formerly attended the First Congregational Church in St. Johns. Donald married Martha Larsen in St. Johns on September 3, 1955 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his son, Eric French of Georgetown, TX, daughter, Kristine (Jim) Tapp of Temple, TX, grandchildren, Michael Tapp, Jacob Tapp and Kenneth French, sister, Evelyn Shelley of Lansing and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Harvey French.

Funeral services will be 3:30 P.M. Thursday, March 14, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Rev. Matt Olson officiating. The family will receive friends 5-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside services provided by V.F.W. Post #4113 and American Legion Post #153. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Ann R. Willett

Ann R. Willett died Monday, March 11, 2002 at the age of 70. She was born May 15, 1931 in Munford, Alabama the daughter of Howard J. and Annie M. (Camp) Davie. Ann graduated from Munford High School in Alabama, Jacksonville State University and did graduate work Auburn University. On June 2, 1955 she married William Willett in Munford, Alabama and has lived in the St. Johns area since 1963. She taught high school English in Missouri and was a theme reader for St. Johns Public Schools, retiring in 1997.

Surviving are her husband William, daughters, Deborah (Walter) Harris of Lansing, Tamela (Chris) Kostos of Illinois and Kimberly (Todd) Feldpausch of St. Johns, son, Randal Willett of Holt, grandchildren, Christina, Melissa and Tyler Willett and Trevor and Rebecca Feldpausch.She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 14, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial  at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Tyler Barlage officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home.   Memorials may be made to Clinton Home Health.

Allen R. Atkins

Allen R. Atkins, Ovid Age 77, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Ingham Regional Medical Center, in Lansing. Funeral services will be held at Nelson-House Funeral Home, Monday, March 11, 2002 at 11 am, with Pastor Cal Emerson officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Allen was born December 8, 1924 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Alexander and Bernice (Hartshorn) Atkins. He attended school in Flint. Mr. Atkins worked in Flint as a fabricating engineer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Carol (Gene) Smith, of Manistee, Michigan; 2 sons, Richard L. Atkins, of Ovid, and Ronald L. Atkins, of Ovid; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Pearce, of Owosso. He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Bush; and daughter-in-law, Cathy Atkins. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
