Max Richard Bashore Age 82 of St. Johns, Michigan died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at The Laurels of Fulton, Fulton Township, Michigan. He was retired from Oldsmobile as a welder. Private Funeral Services were held. Forest was born on March 2, 1920 in Clinton County, Michigan, the son of John & Louise (Wassa) Bashore. On September 14, 1946 he married Alma Carlson in Angola, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army and was a founder and member of Michigan United Coon Hunters Club. He resided most of his life in the Ovid & St. Johns area. He is survived by 1 daughter, Kathy (Chuck) Bashore Golden of Mason, Michigan, 2 sons, Gary Edwin (Nancy) Bashore and Rusty (Dee) Bashore, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma, his parents, John H. & Louise (Wassa) Bashore, 1 sister and 2 brothers. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Clinton County. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Age 79 of St. Johns, Michigan died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. She owned and operated Randolph Redi-Mix in St. Johns, Michigan with her husband. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2002 at 1:00 P.m. at Eureka Christian Church, Eureka, Michigan. Pastor Bob Ditmer will officiate with burial at Eureka Cemetery in Eureka, Michigan. Visitation will be Friday from 2-9 with the family present from 2-4 & 7-9 P.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Wanda was born on February 28, 1923 in Clio, Michigan, the daughter of Russell E. & Iva Goldie (Calderwood) Waggoner. She attended Elsie High School and graduated with the Class of 1941. On June 30, 1946 she married Dale Randolph in Eureka, Michigan. He passed away on December 4, 1981. She was a member of Eureka Christian Church. She resided most of her life in the St. Johns area. She is survived by 1 daughter, Terrie Randolph of Ithaca, 1 son, Larry & Jane Randolph of St. Johns, 3 grandchildren, Christopher, Lisa, Brian & special friend Adrienne Hudson, 1 twin brother, Wendell Waggoner of St. Johns, 3 sister-in-laws, Fern Waggoner of St. Johns, Erma Robinson of St. Johns, and Ellen Waggoner of Roscommon, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Marvin, Gordon, and Howard (Dizz), and 1 sister, Olvada Marie. Memorials may be made to Eureka Christian Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. John J. Flynn died April 3, 2002 at the age of 66. He was born in Laingsburg on August 12, 1935, the son of Leo and Helen (Merignac) Flynn and lived most of his life in Laingsburg and Ovid. John was superintendent for Sargent Construction of Saginaw, owned and operated Three Js Construction for many years and retired from the Village of Ovid as D.P.W. Supervisor. He attended Holy Family Catholic Church, was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree, loved spending time in Curtis, MI in the U.P. and with his family and to fish. John married Mary Lou Hughes in Owosso on February 2, 1963 and she survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Doug Flynn and Jeff Flynn, both of Ovid, two daughters, Vicki (Wayne) Ritz of Rainbow Lake and Becky (Ted) Green of Eureka, five grandchildren, Dakota Ritz, Morgan Ritz, Dustin Green, Ryan Green and Cayden Flynn and one sister, Margaret (Bill) Tejkl of Corunna. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Flynn. Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, with Rev. Fr. Fedewa died April 2, 2002 at the age of 73 after a brief illness. Born May 3, 1928 in Westphalia, the daughter of Leo and Antoinette (Fedewa) Smith. She married Francis Fedewa on March 31, 1948 in Westphalia and he survives her. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, past president and member of St. Ritas Guild for many years, church volunteer and was former treasurer of St. Johns Football Boosters. She enjoyed her family, was a wonderful grandmother and great grandmother, enjoyed talking to people, baking and playing cards. She was the manager of Rodney B. Wilson Junior High School cafeteria retiring in 1990. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Kristie Harper and brother, Carl Smith. In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Gladys (Larry) Tiedt of Highland Village, TX, Diane (Dave) Harper of St. Johns, Joyce (Stephen) Wahoski of Holland, Wayne (Lori-Beth) Fedewa of Centerville, OH and Bruce (Lana) Fedewa of Spring Lake, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brothers, Delbert (Rosaline) Smith, Jerome (Carlene) Smith and James (Marilyn) Smith, sisters, Loretta Thelen, Joan Thelen, Mary (Marvin) Schafer and Lucille (Gerald) Fedewa and sister-in-law, Rose Smith. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 6, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday and Friday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a Rosary prayed 7 P.M. Thursday and a Scripture Service 7 P.M. Friday. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Educational Trust Fund. George T. Graham died April 1, 2002 at the age of 84. He was born in Wisconsin on March 12, 1918 and lived most of his life in St. Johns. He was a truck driver, a veteran of World War II, a life member of V.F.W. Post # 671 in DeWitt and the Teamsters. George married Pauline Criss in Santa Ana, CA on June 21, 1964 and she preceded him in death on May 14, 1999. Surviving are his daughter, Sandra (Alden) Pierce of St. Johns, son, Thomas (Sherry) Graham of Grand Ledge and three grandchildren, Nicole Graham, Kelsey Graham, both of Grand Ledge and Wendy Pierce of Seattle, WA. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 4, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with Rev. Matt Olson officiating. Rita E. Goerge, age 75 went to be with the Lord March 30, 2002 after a long session with arthritis and pulmonary fibrosis. She was born May 9, 1926 in Dallas Township, Michigan the daughter of Anthony and Anna (Halfman) Thelen. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, past president of Confraternity of Christian Mothers, two times past regent of Daughters of Isabella. Besides her family, Rita loved to cook and bake having prepared dinners for the senior citizens, banquets, weddings, anniversaries, fish dinners, and funerals. She enjoyed quilting, playing bingo and cards. On May 7, 1947, she married Reynold E. Goerge and he survives her. Also surviving are their children, Hilary (Jane) Goerge, Marie Lisle, both of Lansing, Richard (Becky) Goerge of Eaton Rapids, Agnes (Ladd) Doolittle of Stanton, and Joseph (Gayla) Goerge of Louisa, Virginia, 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one sister, Bernita Pohl of Fowler and sister-in-law, Joan Thelen of Dewitt. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph P., Ernest, Norman and Edmund Jim Thelen, four sisters, Regina Smith, Rosaline Hufnagel, Cecilia and Amelia Thelen, and brothers-in-law, Herman Hufnagel and Linus Pohl. Memorials may be made to Carson City Hospice in her memory. Richard D. Fero died March 29, 2002 at the age of 73. He was born in St. Johns on September 16, 1928, the son of Vern and Mable (Moore) Fero. He retired from Federal Mogul after 39 years of service, was a veteran of the Korean War, and was an avid watcher of St. Johns Falcons basketball and football, as well as the St. Johns Hockey Association, Greater Lansing Amateur Hockey Association, St. Johns girls swimming, Sea Lions, and the St. Johns Soccer Association. Richard married Mary Ann Suchowesky on September 4, 1954 and she survives him. Also surviving are one son, Richard Fero Jr., of Lake, MI, four daughters, Darlene Morgan, Kathy (Curt) Pettigrew, Annette Grubaugh, and Chris (Dan) Cousineau, all of St. Johns, and five grandchildren, Nathan Grubaugh, JoAnn Morgan, Andrew Pettigrew, Alex and Amber Cousineau. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a scripture service 7 P.M. Monday. Mary was a Senior Companion Volunteer at Hazel Findlay County Manor, where she visited with residents. Funeral Services will be Friday, April 5, 11 AM at Vahalla Cemetery, Midfield, AL. Age 84 of Elsie, Michigan died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing & quilting. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 1, 2002 at 11:00 A.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Lucille was born on December 26, 1917 in Mohawk, Michigan the daughter of John "Jack" & Bessie (Trewen) Rutter. She graduated from Central High School in Flint with the Class of 1934. She was married in 1937 to Thomas Bower in Flint, Michigan. He died in 1970. She was a Life member of O.E.S. in Flushing, a member of the Eagles Club, & T.O.P.S. in Owosso. She resided most of her life in Flushing & Elsie, Michigan. She is survived by one daughter, Sandra & Roger Hayen of Mt. Pleasant, three sons, Richard & Joy Bower of Idaho, Larry & Sharon Bower of Bancroft, and Ronald & Beverly Bower of Elsie, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, and two brothers, Bob & Ray Rutter of Florida. She was predeceased by her parents, two grandchildren, Jack & Chris, two great grandchildren, Chelsea & Richard, and one brother Stan. Memorials may be made to Charity of Donors Choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Russell L. Rieves, 54, of DeWitt, died March 27, 2002. He was born Dec. 8, 1947 in Lansing. He lived in DeWitt and St. Johns area all his life. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and playing pool. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War receiving two Purple Hearts. He was also active in antique tractor pulls. Surviving are one daughter, Renee (Phil) Taft of Warren; one son, Russell (Jean Kelly) of DeWitt; two grandchildren, Bre and Dane; one brother, Ron (Pat) of DeWitt; former wife and dear friend, Lynn 'Chic' of DeWitt. Memorial services were held April 3 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel. Interment was at DeWitt Cemetery with military services provided by the Edwin J. Leyanna VFW Post #671, DeWitt.
